Common Law Marriage

if God accepted what man calls common law marriage then Jesus was wrong to tell the woman at the well (John 4:18) that she had prior 5 husbands but the one she currently has is not her husband. She had clearly went through the marriage ceremony 5 times but now was just shacked up (common law marriage)
An element of common law marriage is that the husband and wife "must present themselves as married to their social circle and community". But the Samaritan woman herself denied that she was married currently, and Jesus agreed with her.

"The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband"

There is no common law marriage when a couple deny being married.

You continue to wrongly conflate common law marriage with fornication, despite being corrected over and over.

Point me to one account where today in common law marriage fornication has not taken place. Today common law marriage is not of God as practiced.

And there you go again.

As has been explained over and over, a common law marriage begins when the couple contract with each other to be married. They then live together as husband and wife because they are married.

As has been explained over and over, fornication does not and cannot result in establishment of a common law marriage.

You are looking at the passage through the lens of modern culture, assuming she had gone through 5 marriage ceremonies and 5 divorces (not mentioned).

IMO, Jesus was looking at her through the biblical standard established in the Garden and confirmed by Paul (the “one flesh” standard)

The woman was a serial adulteress or fornicator which is why she came to the well mid day to avoid other women.

Jesus is telling her she had intimate relations with 6 men and the current man was married.

When she goes to the town to tell them about Jesus, she says He knew everything she ever did. She didn’t say He knew she had 5 marriages and 5 divorces, which could have all been allowed under the Law, and could have been common knowledge in the town.

Peace to you
