I am new to the discussion board and am not sure this is the right forum to ask this question none-the-less here goes. Several years ago I heard a young pastor by the name of Wayne Hardy give this quote, it both challenged me and has served to remind me that my Christianity requires something from me. This young preacher said, "Men, you can either live a life of discipline or a life of regret."

I am truly interested in quotes and one liners that have impacted you in your Christian life.

When you go through the pearly gates you will witness 3 miracles.
The first miracle is that you won't meet certain people whose place in Heaven you were certain of.
The second miracle is that you will meet people that you were certain of not to be in Heaven.
The third and largest miracle is that YOU got into Heaven.

    "Emptiness and willingness."--Lee Roberson.

"You can't win everyone, but you can always win someone to Christ."--John R. Rice.

"It pays to serve Jesus."--Charles A. Himes, my father, who died with little money and few physical possessions, but a legacy of 60 years of preaching the Gospel, several churches planted and several others pastored, many who thanked him for telling them about Christ, and a son who thanks God for him.

I didn't realise it then, but Dr Roberson's constant message of "Die to self" has had a tremendous impact.

Dad's saying: "Can't never could do anything."

Hyles came along and said something similar: "I can is what makes a great man."

Here is one I got from my father. "Right is right if nobody is doing it and wrong is wrong if everybody is doing it." Someone told me one time that Ben Franklin said that...but if he did he must have heard it from my Dad!

Dr. Bob Swift is now pastor of FBC, Mayfield, KY. Several years ago he was interim pastor of my church. Here is one of his memorable comments:

"We don't know how big a God we have until He is all we have."

I used this in another thread. Heard by others from more than one source, but said by R. Charles Blair to me:

"Did it ever occur to you that nothing ever occurs to God?"

I once heard Dr. Wayne Dehoney, then pastor of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Louisville and a past President of the SBC say:

"It's not how high you can jump when you shout, 'Hallelujah!"; it's how straight you can walk when your feet hit the ground."

Another from someone, don't remember who-

"You're the best Christian somebody knows!"

Here are a few that have impacted me....

"What you are is so important that if God is not satisfied with what you are, then He cannot accept what you do." Dr. Stephen F. Olford on Rom. 12:1

"God reveals his will by setting a torch to your soul."
Max Lucado, Grace For The Moment, 2000

"God always saves the best for those who leave the choice to Him." Bradley Price

The pastor of the church where I grew up (Curtis Hutson) quoted this poem so often that most of us in the congregation memorized it. It is by Martin Luther.

    Feelings come and feelings go,
    And feelings are deceiving;
My warrant is the Word of God--
    Naught else is worth believing.

Tho all my heart should feel condemned
For want of some sweet token,
There is one greater than my heart
    Whose word cannot be broken.

I'll trust in God's unchanging word
    Till soul and body sever,
For tho all things shall pass away,
    His Word abides forever!

I had the opportunity to hear brother Hutson several times before he went home to be with the Lord. We have his picture taken with our two oldest children. I loved to hear him preach on soul winning there has never been anyone more passionate for souls than Dr Hutson.

    Thanks for sharing

I heard a variation of Dr. Dehoney's quip: I don't care how high you jump, and how long you stay up there as long as you're speakin' English when you come down."
