Hello, Cality:

first, the positives:
blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach.

now the negatives:
not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre, but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

then some more positives:
one that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; (for if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God ?)

then, a negative again:

not a novice, lest being lifted uup with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

then, a positive again, ending with a negative:

moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
(1 Timothy 3:2-7).

Moreover:

......but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity... give attendance to reading, to exhoration, to doctrine......
take heed unto thyself and unto the doctrine, continue in them... (1 Timothy 4:12-13, 16)

In addition:

Flee also youthful lusts but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. ........and the servant of the Lord must not strive, but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient. In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves.....2 Tim. 2:22,24;

And the charge:
I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine....." 2Tim. 4:1-2

Very exact standards from the Bible. Notice that it does not include a man-made requirement which is graduation from a seminary.
Oh, sure they might quote 2 Tim. 2:15 but that is a charge to personal study of the Scriptures under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and certainly there is nothing in the Bible that says a pastor should go to seminary to be able to learn how to properly draw up plans and strategies on "soul winning" and church management.
Summarizing, Cality, the pastor must have a pastor's heart which is basically a servant's heart controlled and directed by his Master.
As Paul said, "follow me as I follow Christ."

Why callest thou me "good"; there is none "good", except God. But a "good" pastor should be:

a good person

a good christian

a good husband/father

a good student of the Word

a good communicator of the Word

a good heart for others

a good example to the unsaved/saved alike

a good calvinist (okay, threw that in to see if you were still reading)

have a good Savior

I am so thankful that I qualify in at least 1 of those areas
