Did you or will you settle near "home?"

Born in Ventura CA, I moved to Alturas CA (northeasten corner, opposite side of the state as Eureka) until I went to school in Chicago for five years. Then I moved back to the CA (Bay Area: Palo Alto) to go to graduate school which I finished in June and have been living ten mintues from campus in Sunnyvale where I now work. But in about four months, I will move to Austin Texas, a state I have only set foot in for three days! Go Texas!!!

 

I was born in Lubbock Texas. We moved around alot when we were growing up. Texas, Utah, Colorado, Nevada, Arizona, Wyoming, then back to Utah and home to Texas when I was 14. 13 schools in 12 years. No wonder I never learned to spell. When I married my husband and I move all around the state of Texas and spent two years in Colorado where my Parents currently live. We moved back to Leon county Texas when my husband lost his step-father, to live near his Mother. We have lived here for 15 years. My parents will be moving here in the next year or two. They have land next door to us and they will be close so I can care for them. Daddy is almost 70 and will be too old to move if they don't get moved soon. My Mom's words not mine.
In a couple of years we will all live in the same county.

 

Don't ask Margie. There is not enough space here on the BB to account all the places where I have lived. Just to say that my birthplace is about 6,000 miles from here and I have lived in four other countries outside the United States. Now, that doesn't qualify me for settling down near the place where I grew up, does it?

 

Born and raised in Erwin, TN.

Moved after marraige to Blairsville, Ga in June, 2000 where we still reside. It's only about 3 hours from my parents and family.

 

Ah, home, I almost hate it when people ask me where my home is.

I was born and lived some years in Sioux Falls, SD. Then my Dad decided to look for work elsewhere. Elsewhere prior to WW2 was Rockford, IL; Baraboo, WI, then back to Sioux Falls where Mom, brother and I waited for Dad to return from WW2.

After the war in was several small towns along the Missouri River in North and South Dakota. When the projects were finished there it was on to California. From there I excaped to the US Air Force where again it was moving time. Arkansas, Texas, South Dakota, Morocco, Philippines, Viet Nam, Thailand, and Japan.

Don's wife here. Sorry to jump in the middle of this, but when I saw Dexter, I figured I needed to reply.

My oldest brother and his family live in Dexter. My SIL is from that area. Such a small world.

Well, I was born and grew up in Maine, and spent almost all of the first 24-25 years of my life there (with the exception of 9 months I lived in NH to work at a job that didn't work out). I escaped the Frozen North not quite 2 years ago, and am now living near Raleigh, NC (City of Oaks). I still don't quite feel "settled", and probably never will until I get married someday (Lord willing). I do love it here in North Carolina, though...

I was born in Seattle, lived there six years, then moved with my family to Oklahoma. When I graduated from High School, I moved 90 miles away to college, then 4 hours away to seminary.

I moved about 175 miles from home--maybe three hours, and lived there for six years.

Then, I did the big thing and moved 8 hours away. That was about 2.5 years, and then I did the big unmentionable, and moved two days away.

Since, my parents moved near me. Their choice.

Seattle, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, and now North Carolina.

Born in Michigan, and would very much like to visit my hometown again, and see once more the first church I ever attended, sometime before rapture.

But I'm in North Carolina now, in my husband's hometown. My mother, two brothers, and one sister are in four different states, so I don't live close to Mom - yet. She's at the point in life that she wants to live with one of her kids, and guess who she chose? If the county approves my request to allow a mobile home on my property, I'll be as close as I can to her.

Married and lived in Gulf Shores, AL for 3 years, New Orleans, LA for 3 years and now am in Mississippi (going on 3 years).
FAmily lives in Mobile. We meet half way a couple of times a month and my mother comes to visit a good bit. I would LOVE to live closer, but I want her to move here - we love where we live.

I live in the home built by my mother's father in the early 1900's (20-ish), on part of the land purchased by my maternal great-great-grandfather when he moved to Texas from Alabama, about 5 miles from the property purchased by my paternal great-great-grandfather when he moved to Texas from Georgia.

 

Wow, Robert! Only two more generations and your family will be considered "locals"!!!

 

I was born in Bloomington, Indiana and lived there until after my mother's 2nd husband adopted me in 1967. We then moved to Marquette Heights, Illinois. We then moved to Decatur, Illinois for two years, and then to Pekin, Illinois. I've lived all over the place. Peoria, Illinois, Granite Falls, MN; Augusta, Ga; Grovetown, GA; Dearing, Ga; Martinez, Ga; Sullivan, Mo;, Watertown, Wis; and Murfreesboro, Tn; just to name a few! LOL

Dr. Bob you only had a short stay in DFW. Try 18 years in Houston and 18 in DFW and the last three in Oklahoma City. Basically I have had very short times in my life outside a big city or metropolitan area.

 

Actually, we (my family) have lived about five miles outside a little town for almost 150 years, but we are not "locals" to the people who live in town! They have their own separate clique.

 

I was born in Panama City and have lived in Missouri, Louisiana, and Germany while my dad was in the Army. When he retired, we moved to Roy, WA where the Pioneer Rodeo would come through town twice a year. I lived there from 7th grade through 12th grade. Then I went to college in Greenville, SC and have been here ever since.

 

I live just twenty miles from where I was raised and I would never live there again. My parents no longer live there, they left as soon as the last child graduated high school. My husband was raised in the same town as myself, his parents still live there, so of course, we do go and see them once in a while.
