Were there that many of you BB regulars who did not know my views on homosexuality? I ask because I've been surprised by the vehemence of the posts on the new thread, since a couple of months ago someone had posted a thread specifically challenging my views and I thought everyone aired their opinions then.

I'm surprised, if everyone thinks I'm such a heretic, that so few people have read my sermons; since they should give them prime opportunity to level additional charged of heresy.

I think I kind of guessed because of your alignment with the CBF and some other comments you made.

I don't agree with you. But I kind of knew where you were coming from.

I think you need to tread lightly for a while. The pitch forks and torches have come out of the closet too.

I still disagree with you, but am middle of the road watching how the discussion plays out. I'm more than ready to hear what you have to say...

Until Next Post, Adam

Thanks Adam.

At least you seem to understand that this was not a view that I arrived at casually. It's the result of much careful prayer and Bible study.

Josh,

It was no secret at all where you stood. I knew the first day you were here because I checked your profile and looked at your website. I also recognized the name of your church in Georgia. You have not tried to hide a secret agenda. You have been forthright and honest about where you stand. All one had to do was go to your website to know exactly where you stand. I disagree with your views 100% but will pray for the spirit of God to change your heart, not the rejection of men.

Joseph,

Thank you. Although I had several objections to the tone of that "discussion," my greatest concern was the implication that I was dishonest or deceptive.

In fact, I don't think I've ever started a thread on homosexuality (other than to ask Barnabas why he didn't think a particular link was appropriate - a thread which quickly degenerated and was thankfully replaced by Bro. Smith's). I have only replied when people have stated or implied that all baptists have one view on homosexuality; something that is not true on the local or national level.

Adam, I understand your openness and willingness to hear him out, and perhaps even study out doctrines and make sure that it's what you truly believe.
I just want to urge you to use caution and sound judgement and not be deceived, or afraid to come out with questions you might have. Too often when someone starts questioning a doctrine they're afraid to voice that fear, and end up getting only one side of the argument, learning about the other side on their own because they're afraid to tell people they're having doubts about what they believe.
Did that make any sense whatsoever? [IMG]
TO EVERYONE ELSE: DO YOU SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE? Your fear and homophobia and reluctance to deal with the issue is astounding. You do not want to talk about or deal with it, so you won't. Alright then. But guess what? Here you have a Baptist minister who believes in homosexuality perfectly willing to discuss and explain what he believes, and there's always going to be someone willing and open to listen, isn't there? Shouldn't we be doing the same? We're perfectly willing to be up there discussing murder aren't we?

How about discussing if Mary was a virgin?

How about discussing is Jesus was actually God?

How many herecies are you willing to give creedence to?

Gina,

Yes, I will use caution. But you hit the nail on the head of what I was trying to get across. Why fear of talking about it? I always have want both sides (or however many sides there happen to be), but the behavior of the anti-homosexual side was shameful. This is what I wanted to voice my opinion against. It doesn't make any sense to me why they would be acting like that.

Until Next Post, Adam

I don't get what you are saying Gina.

From what I understand, this discussion is about questioning the validity of the Orthodox belief. It has nothing to do with faith, other than teaching herecies.

Tuor, as a baptist what do you use as your standard for determining what the orthodox belief is? We have no pope, bishop, or ecclesiastical council.

Yes Tuor, there will be times in a persons life when when they will qestion what they believe in. Before you beieve in something you quesion and learn about it. And sometimes you do change or question your beliefs.
This is how we grow. This is what being human is. That's when other Christians or Christians (if the questioner is not saved) uplift, teach, and help you figure out what the Lord has to teach us.

I would say an Orthodox Christian is one who sees the Bible as face value. An Orthodox Christian believes that the Bible is the word of God. An Orthodox Christian doesn't try to warp God's truths through man's lens.

Gina,

Such people would question Christianity. I believe this is fine. It is not fine to teach a false doctrine and still call it Christian. There is much scripture to support this view.

I AGREE with you Tuor. Teaching false doctrine is wrong. Questioning and learning about doctrine is not.
Holding to false doctrine after you've been taught otherwise is wrong.

This is where we have to be careful. We have to stand on the solid foundation of the Word of God, for if we do not stand for something we will fall for anything. [IMG]

On previous threads we have discussed "What is a Baptist," and have explained Baptist distinctives, that is what makes Baptists different from others. One of those distinctives is: "Separation ecclesiastically and morally." Every church is to practice separation from every other church that does not hold orthodox doctrine, or that is deemed to be walking with the world or living in sin. Every Christian is to live a separated life. They are to separate themselves from the world and separate themselves unto God. This involves a separation from all that believers that are deliberately living in sin (1Cor.5), and a separation of sin and the world in general. It is striving to live holy and godly lives. Homosexuality does not fall into that category.
Thus the need for separation. It is a Baptist distinctive.

I'm sorry, I love all people and pray that all would come to repentence, but I'll not sugar coat sin. Any man standing in the pulpit and teaching false doctrine is an heritic. I pray for his repentence, but will not give thought to anything he has to say about spiritual matters until the man repents.

God speed.

Romans chapter 1 answers every question which can be asked about the subject. I have actually heard it preached that this chapter is refering to inhospitality rather than homosexuality. Is that nuts or what? There is no compromise and no discussions on this subject because clear and unmistakable instructions are given us by God to avoid this type of behavior. Hate the sin but love the sinner. That is what it is..SIN.

Agape,

Mike
