Hi there, does anyone know anything (good or bad) about Amway? I have a relative who has joined it, and is incredibly excited about it, almost evangelistic. I dont know a thing about it, so am asking here.
    Thanks, Colin

I'm in Amway to use some of their products ourselves.

They mostly have good products but are expensive.

The prolem is the way they want you to sell to family and friends. I find this dubious to say the least and a good way to ruin friendships.

if you want to use the products - join. If however, you want to earn income give them a miss. You would be better off getting a job instead.

I agree with Conan. I think Amway is generally a good organization, but there are people in the org that abuse it. But generally, their products are good, and I wouldn't hesitate to contact my local distributor.

One could say the same about Avon as well.

Amway is nothing but a large pretentious scam! I know, I had a good friend get involved in it and it literally destroyed his life. They knowingly go after people who are in debt up to their eyeballs and convince them that they can make money and have everything that they want!

They will also try to use a religious angle and say that many people have been brought to Christ as a result of the business, this is nothing but a lie.....

Amway is dangerous, avoid it like the plague!

    Agreed, tlange

When my wife and I first started dating (10 years ago last month) she was really involved with this organization because of her father and he was a nut about it. I can't go in to all kinds of detail here (and there is some outlandish stuff), but it caused a world of problems. It didn't take too long for her to see its major problems, thank God.

I think 1 Timothy 6 is a good Biblical reference that shows some of the errors of this near cultic group.

I have been to an Amway rally and let me tell you that they are fanatical. The people in your up-line don't want you to sell the products they want you to sell to a down-line.

I find their selling technique deceptive. It actually tells you in their material that when you plan to sell someone the Amway business, don't tell them it's Amway just make this huge big pretext about you have a "business opportunity" for them. You don't drop the bomb that it's Amway until you've done a 30 minute presentation of circles and lines explaining how the "business" works.

It is a good way to LOSE FRIENDS and NOT INFLUENCE PEOPLE.

The entire premise is greed. Now I will hand this to them, in their printed materials it does say that only about 3% will actually achieve independence in working only for themselves using the Amway method.

Now the products are excellent!! Quite pricy but always quality. But I would steer clear of "buying " into their business. Starting as an Amway distributor is hard and unless you have a very thick skin, you'll die from repeated rejection. People are so wary of Amway these days. They don't want anything to do with the business.

Especially after the incident where a bunch of Amway Distributors got together and sent out a mass mailing to literally millions that the logo for Proctor and Gamble is satanic (its not by the way).

YES AMWAY WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT HUGE HOAX. BTW Proctar and Gamble sued and won.

Thanks, Chet! I appreciated 1Timothy 6. My own research has also shown the greed and control that this group encourage.
    Thanks again, Colin

I did some research about Amway after I posted here yesterday and what I found out made me even more confident that I DON'T WANT TO BE INVOLVED.

Many many people have gone under completely trying to make it to diamond. The Amway business is a MLM with products so that it can cover its illegality and most of the money the diamonds make is off the backs of those in their downlines selling motivational tapes and books. Very little revenue is made off selling the actual products.

Do a search on Amway and you'll see what I mean.
