Actually, I think you are spouting in the wrong crowd. LOL.

I got a free subscription and have enjoyed grazing through it. More importantly, though, I sometimes pass interesting things along to my pastor just for his reaction.

He thanked me profusely for giving it to him. He told me he used to get it when he was a young Christian and he would always read the sermons in it. He said to keep passing them. LOL.

 

ThankGodForBillyGraham, be careful for you are threading an uncharted territory. Just a little while ago you were asking people to pray for you to be able to make the right decision, to clean up your act, and to get closer to God, yet you refuse to accept a Fundamental Baptist paper such as The Sword of the Lord, which could bring you closer to God? Have discernment young man, and examine (test) the paper as you are commanded to do so in the Bible with the spirits (1 John 4:1).

I can't answer for Barnabas, of course, but we do see a lot of contradictory messages coming from you. You seem to be a bit confused?

TGFBG, if you re-read my post above you will see that the only question I had for you was if you examined The Sword of the Lord newspaper before condemning it for good. But on another thread I did ask you to read the Bible systematically, from beginning to end, while allowing the Word of God to speak to you, shape you and mold you, as many years ago another young man, David allowed God to do. I also suggested to read some of the Psalms, such as the 119th. There is an immense gold mine in there for anything ailing you. Believe you me, people on BaptistBoard.com are your friends, and you couldn’t have gotten better advise for the problems ailing you, such as you’ve already got from John Wells, Chris Temple, Dr. Griffin, Helen, Joy, KeeperOfMyHome, Joseph Botwinick, The Squire, Adam (flyfree432), SaggyWoman, and many others. I only mentioned the names of Moderators and Administrators of this board, who individually and collectively tried to reach out to you. But as you may have discovered, learning to walk requires the individual’s trust to let the supportive hands go and take an independent step. In the spiritual realm you have to do the same. Your dependency on this group of cyber-space individuals is admirable, but as Adam suggested to you ever so eloquently you have to take the decisive step yourself toward the perfection God desires you to be. And that perfection can be achieved only through the blood of Jesus. Thus when the Father will look upon you, He will not see your shortcomings but the perfection of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ – for His blood is covering you from head to toe. I personally believe that The Sword of the Lord is the best Christian publication.

No, I do not agree with everything - but I have yet to see another publication that comes even close.

A few days ago, you mentioned starting a newsletter (and a devotional). Were you doing it for the money? I don't think so. Yet, it would take a LOT of money to publish and distribute a newsletter to 10,000 people. How about 100,000? 200,000? 500,000?

The postage alone on a newsletter with 200,000 subscribers would be around $22,000 per month! (200,000x$0.11). Now add the paper (another $30-40,000), printing (another $50-75,000), etc. and you can easily see that you have 3 options: a.) end the newsletter, b.) charge subscription fee or c.) ask for donations. Most ministries resort to option c.)

In case of radio, TV ministries, the costs are significantly higher.

Dear TGfBG -- 14 going on 15? I guarantee you will change -- significantly -- in the coming years.

In the meantime, settle down a little and follow the advice you have been given above. We have not all grown ******er with age, you know... some of us have picked up a few things along the way that might be worth paying attention too...

 

Having also survived 14, and even 15 and 16 (although God is the only one that knows how I did it--seriously!), I'd suggest that you ask yourself a question:

Do you dislike the publication because it condemned something you personally like? Or vice versa? In which case, you must ask yourself: Did it dog on something that appeals to my flesh?

Well, the fact is that you are very young and the Sword of the Lord is published for mature audience. Although it does have a section for youth, concerns of women, essays on music, and other lighter subjects to enjoy. Tell you what Jesse, report back 10 years from now and see what you think about the paper - OK?

 

I didn't like it at first, when I was a brandy new christian. I think because it exposed me too much.

I read some issues lately, & think it is a very good tool for christians to grow in God's grace. I don't think SOTL is in it for the money. Our hurch supports that ministry.

BTW, I survived 14. Then 24. Then 34.....
