I would like someone to tell me, what are the baptists' beliefs in regards to worshipping on Sunday? and why?

I suppose it's the tradition started by the Apostles. They started worship on the "Lord's Day", or Sunday, the day our Lord rose from the grave.
We now follow that tradition.

Interestingly, the SDA believe worshiping on Sunday is the "mark of the beast". Or will be when some one world religion makes it mandatory. ;)

Hi. Just to expound on what Optional told you, here are some scriptures for you to reference:
I Cor. 16:1-2
Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye.
Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

Acts 20:7
And upon the first day of the week, when the deciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

Hope this helps [IMG]

I understand the Biblical reasoning for keeping the Lord's day on Saturday. I also understand the biblical reasoning for moving it to Sunday. What I think is unfortunate is those believers who don't keep any day.

One day out of sever to worship and rest... is that such a big sacrifice for many?

That's nonsense-- Romans 14:5; Colossians 2:16.

And yet the Apostle instructs us not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together, Heb.10:25. How that can be accomplished without setting aside a day is beyond me. ;)

Romans 14:5 and Colossians 2:16 do not in any way negate Exodus 20:8-11. Col 2:16 talks about leting no MAN judge you by the keeping of sabbath days. It does not negate God's commandment to us in Ex 20. That is reaffirmed by Heb.10:25.

That's why I will blast any effort to insist on conformance to one's notions in regard to-- not 'keeping of'-- sabbath day.

< It does not negate God's commandment to us in Exodus 20. >

All laws of the Old Covenant are 'negated' except for those repeated in the New Covenant. The command to do no work on the seventh day is not repeated. Furthermore, Exodus 20:8-11 says nothing about a worship day, only to do no work of any kind; and violating this was punishable by death (Exodus 31:14). Is this negated or not?

I read it; that's what.

Do you teach that the death penalty must be enacted for working on the seventh day? or do you clean, prepare food, flip a switch, etc., on that day and teach others such is alright, in violation of the passage you cited?

You have a greater difficulty than merely dismissing it as a ceremonial law, it is also in the moral law.

I'm surprised you don't see it in the New Testament. It's there plain as day.

Garbage. The requirement to do no work of any kind on the 7th day is not repeated in the NT. And I have already shown in scripture where it is plain every believer is to make up his own mind about this. What part of "let each man be convinced in his own mind" do you not understand, bud?

God's commandment in Exodus 20 was not to us. It was to Israel as a part of their indivisible law. If you keep a Sabbath day (on Saturday, not Sunday), then you must keep all of the Law (Gal 5; James 2). If you keep Sunday, then you are not keeping the Law anyway.

In the NT, there is no one day set aside as an absolute for worship. Everyday belongs to the Lord. To set aside a day for worship is fine. I think we should. But it is not mandated in the NT which day it has to be and it is not mandated what else we can do on that day.

I already quoted it. Hebrews 10:25.

I think John Calvin states it best:

This verse does not specify the setting aside of a day, much less which day is to be set aside. It specifies the meeting together of the body for the purposes mentioned. That can take place on one day a month, one day a week, or every day of the week (as it did in the first century). The point is that when the body meets, we are to be present. Those who say, "Well I will just watch on TV" or "I believe in God but I don't believe in going to church" are directly addressed by this verse. This verse does not address those who say we are allowed to meet on Saturday, Tuesday, or it is fine to spend the afternoon at the shopping mall, golf course, etc. after meeting and before the evening meeting (assuming your church has one).

And yet, two thousand years of Christianity says otherwise.

I don't think so at all. I think 2000 years of Christianity agrees with me on this one. Not one verse of Scripture has yet been shown to mandate one particular day of worship for the NT church ... not one. Verse has been shown that refute and correct those who would enforce one particular day. I am not sure there is anything else to say about this.

Excuse me. I thought we were talking about whether we are expected to set aside a day, not any particular day.

But it's pointless to argue. Devout souls can see the need for one. Cavalier souls will not, Psalm 2:3.
