It's been around a while.

    Deuteronomy 32

    Beautiful language.

    Strawman arguments AGAINST it.

    #1 Bestseller-EVER!!!

But I think one of the things that makes me clutch my KJV so near to my heart is the hateful statements against it, even on Christian message boards. In my experience, people lash out at the person/thing spouting off the truth the loudest.

Personally I only use the KJV.
It's all I've ever been exposed to since I was young, ie. family and friends.

It's what I preach/teach from. It's what our church uses. It's what the shool I teach at uses.

Personally I think there are some good modern translations. Modern/New KJV.

The reason I prefer it also stems from my convictions about the Textus Receptus. I also think that the formal translation method is the only way to go. That totally rules out the NIV. [IMG]

I think the tried and true KJV will endure for quite awile longer, that is if The Lord tarries.

This topic does not belong in the Fundamental Baptist Forum. It's proper place is the Bible Versions/Translation Forum. I am moving it to that Forum.

Who argues against the KJV? I've never seen an anti-KJV post in my life. Neither have I ever heard anyone call the King James a bad translation. KJV is pretty much universally accepted as a solid translation, as far as I can tell.

I agree, Eric. I know of noone who argues that the KJV is a bad translation or who speaks in a mean-spirited way about it. They may be out there, but I just haven't run into any of them. The only criticism I have consistently heard is that there is a need for newer versions which update the English, and I agree. I think the NKJV does a good job at this. However, I still think the KJV will always deserve a place of honor among the best English translations as well as the great literary achievements in the English language.

When I do hear strident criticism it is aimed not at the KJV, but at the KJV only advocates, who sometimes appear to take criticism of their position as Criticism of the KJV itself.

    Why I Love the NASB

It's been around a while - longer than me, at least.

    Deuteronomy 32

Not so beautiful language, plain and straightforward English.

    Strawman arguments AGAINST it.

Not the #1 Bestseller-EVER!!!, but it should have been.

But I think one of the things that makes me clutch my NASB so near to my heart is the hateful statements against it, even on Christian message boards. In my experience, people lash out at the person/thing spouting off the truth the loudest.

    Two questions:

    1. You clutch things to your heart just because other people make hateful statements about them?

    2. Are you able to provide any quotes from a Christian messageboard of a hateful statement against the KJV? I've never seen any.

Okay. But since you bring up strawman arguments, you need to realize that great majority of them come from the King James only crowd. [IMG]

"...as opposed to the standard corrupt version...

And what is that?... the standard KJV?"

That was one of the many here. Believe me, I have seen them.

But my point wasn't to cause division here, I worded my question wrong, and I apologize for that. I don't subscribe to the mentality of the KJV being Gods only chosen English version. I just wanted to know what people love about the KJV. That's all.

I don't really understand the first couple of lines, and how they constitute an attack on the KJV. Whoever wrote them seems to be responding to something someone else said... I'd like to see them in context.

To answer your original question, the thing I love most about the KJV is that it's a faithful English translation of the Word of God :)

Hebrews 4:12 and Psalms 12:6-7 is a couple of reasons why I love the KJV.. [IMG]

Those are good reasons. Those are two of the reasons I love the NASB, NIV, NKJV, etc, as well. [IMG]

In the Articles Of Faith of Little Bethany Primitive Baptist Church of San Diego, CA.

Article #2. We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are the written word of God and are the only infallible rule of faith and practice. We consider the King James version as orthodox and accept no other.

II Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

No member in our church in the past or now has ever challeged that article and if they do they are free to find another church. Rules are rules and these among others is not up for debate... Brother Glen [IMG]

    </font>
There are many boards where people post arguments against the KJV in favor of better versions...but one that a few here have frequented are at http://www.fundamentalistforums.com

I haven't posted there much lately, but others have
There are many good people there.

You don't have to go that far. Look at our own Baptist Board at http://www.baptistboard.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=4;t=000514 and note that 8 people labeled the KJV as "cannot be trusted by a Bible student."</font>
I think I might be to blame for that, the way I set up the poll was a little bit confusing. To me, the poll results indicate that some people misunderstood how the poll worked. If I had it to do over again, I would have made the question "which translations do you trust to be accurate?"... I may set up a poll at some point that asks that, actually, but I've posted enough polls lately that I don't want to annoy everyone with another one so soon ;)

I can't imagine why anyone would want to disparage the KJV... it's really stood the test of time and been an incredible tool to bring countless people to salvation.
