Do we have any BB members from Texas who can recommend a good church for me to go to next Sunday?

    I would appreciate it.

    Well Webmaster,

I don't know what part of Texas you are going to, but it's like a whole 'nuther country. LOL.

Spring Baptist Church is located in Spring, Texas, right outside of HOUSTON.

Their address is 1027 Spring Cypress Road, and their phone number is 281-353-5448.

It's an experience you won't forget. It is an amazing place to worship. The music program is so awesome, you may be reduced to tears.

The preaching is great, true, and uncompromising.

The people are loving, and warm, and evangelistic.

Some folks raise hands while singing and praying.

It's a S.B.C church, on the conservative side, but doesn't have a dress code. That is, women are not asked to wear dresses to the knee, or something like that.

Hope you can come be with us.

From a lowly layman, the only problem there...

I'll be in Houston, so I might just visit with you (unless some better alternatives are posted here [IMG] )

I also considered Ed Young's church (not sure where it is, except that's in Texas) but will decide later.

    Thanks for the invitation.

I believe Ed's church is in the Dallas area (Los Colinas, I think). I remember when I was in seminary at SWBTS, he came and talked to our Church Growth class one day and he was growing a contemporary new church in Los Colinas. Of course that was six years ago...so who knows.

I thought Ed Young's church was Second Baptist in Houston, but I could be mistaken.

There is an Ed young Sr, who pastors in Houston.

There is an Ed young Jr. who pastors in grapevine. I would rather visit his church.

Both good men and both good churches. I pastored in Lewisville (next suburb to Grapevine). Man, the noise of the jets in the landing path of DFW in BOTH of those areas will bring sinners to their knees!

Ed Young, Sr., pastors Second Baptist Church of Houston. It is located on the west side of town south of I-10, at Voss and Woodway.

I think Ed Young, Jr., pastors The Fellowship at Las Colinas in Irving (the Dallas/Ft. Worth area).

A liberal Baptist church in Houston is Covenant Church on Caroline.

A CBF-type Baptist church in Houston in Tallowood Baptist on the west side.

Second, First, Sagemont and others are conservative Baptist churches.

Webmaster, thanks for posting up the link to Second Baptist. The Houston Area homeschoolers conduct their graduations in the sanctuary, and when my son graduated in 1999, I was in the building. It is impressive. The website brought back memories. I personally would not attend Second Baptist for worship services (you could even stay in the atrium and watch it on the big screen); but I'm not trying to campaign against your attending there, either. Just from the physical standpoint, the Woodway "Campus" is amazing. The plant includes a little of everything - from a school to sports complex (gym, baseball field, etc) to a restaurant (maybe it was a McDonald's!?). It must cover at least 3 or 4 city blocks each way. I've never been in anything like that before nor since. [Point of reference - when my daughter was younger, we attended a singing at a "large" Methodist church (maybe 300 people). The event was held in the gym/life center. When we walked in, my daughter's eyes got big and her mouth dropped open. She pointed upward and said, "Daddy, they've got a basketball goal in the church house!"] Talk about leading a sheltered life!! [IMG]

Hope Houston is hospitable and you enjoy your stay in TEXAS. But, if'en you want to experience the real thing, you need to get up here in the country.

    Hi,
I don't know if you will be driving or flying through Texas but if your driving you might stop by and visit with us in Buffalo, Texas. We are two hours north of Houston. Bethel Baptist is a very small church. We have a new Pastor that is a basic scripture based preacher. Our church family is very warm and loving. We would love to have you come and visit, if not Sunday morning, Sunday evening. Or if your still here on Wednesday, then Wednesday evening.
No matter where you go, we are glad that you are coming to Texas. It is a great state.

We stopped by the church last night and I was just as impressed as you were. I have never seem anything like it either. Jerry Falwell's Liberty complex comes closest I've seen, but this one is by far the most impressive Baptist church/complex.

We're in Dallas today and plan to visit First Baptist here as well.

    Hey Houstonian,
Who is the Pastor at Tallowood and do you know where Allan Walworth is. He used to be in Huntsville Alabama.
    Thanks

Webmaster, if you travel from Dallas to Houston via I45, you will travel through Rosa's town of Buffalo, TX.

We went to Second Baptist on Saturday evening (6:30) to hear Dr. Ed Young, Sr. What a blessing it was!

On Sunday morning (9:30) we visited the First Baptist Church and enjoyed the sermon.

BY 11:00AM we were back at Second Baptist and was very disappointed in their "contemporary service". Ben Young's sermon was OK, but not even close to Ed's.

Glad you got to visit Second Baptist, I watch Ed Young's Winning Walk all the time.
We have yet to visit his church, kinda hard to go someplace else when we love our church so much.

Were you disappointed at the sermon, or the "contemporary"?
