Matthew 13:11

    Matthew 13:11 reads: "For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John." What exactly does this mean?

    it just means that the old testament prophets and the writings from the old testament pointed to John as the "voice in the wilderness" pointing the way to and preparing people to accept Jesus ' when he came to this earth and his ministry while on earth.

    Assuming you meant Matt 11:13, a literal translation is found in the NLT:

    For before John came, all the teachings of the Scriptures looked forward to this present time. (Mat 11:13 NLT)

    John the Baptist marked a significant turning point in God's plan and revelation to mankind. Up to the point of his coming, all the OT scriptures pointed toward the coming Messiah. This Messiah would be affirmed by Elijah (or type of Elijah), who would announce this Messiah's ministry. John the Baptist fulfilled the prophesy of Malachi 4:5-6:

    Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

    If you recall, Moses and Elijah appeared together at the Mt. of Transfiguration (Matt 7:14) and speculatively may be the "two witnesses" during the Great Tribulation (Rev 11:1-3).
