What do you think?
How does one become a KJV only?

Is one born with this belief?
Is it environment?
Is it in the water?

[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

No one is born with it.
It can be the environment (a KJV Only pastor)
It can be in the water.

A less morbid thought is "How does one escape from being KJV Only?"

A further reason is that many who chose to become KJV Only, have an unquenchable thirst for certainty--and instead of trusting the certainty of the promises of God and his sovereign nature, they demand that His Revelation be flawless and inspired in the English language--even though He never promised such a product.

This is a fair question. I have wondered about an area's influence not only on this issue but others. It seems to be the same type atmosphere in nearly all local churches in our area. And it also seems that there is much more KJO ideas as well. I have wondered if there was less of this in other places.

As far as being born into it, I think that where a person goes to church after being born again does play a big part. When I was saved, KJVO was taught almost every Sunday.
Then the next church I was a part of taught it just as fervently. So unless one does their homework, it sticks in their mind.

I like what Chick Daniels ask, how does one become set free from this if they have been
drilled (or even brainwashed) that your following the evil one by reading another version. :(

Souls Saved, the Revivials, the Great Preachers Called, While it was Being Used, Whats the Problem then, Why Attack such a Great Book, The Word of God has nothing to Prove, if you don't like it, Write one that you will like, See if the Holy Spirit will

Why am I not a KJV-onlyist? That's easy, by the grace of God, the NASB works for me, pick the one you like, as for me it's the NASB which has a proven track record, I have found nothing better, I'm happy with it, I'm settled with it, I'm sold on it. Can anyone dispute its fruits, the souls saved, the revivals, the great preachers called, while it was being used? What's the problem, then? WHy attack such a great book? The Word of God has nothing to prove. If you don't like it, write one that you will like, and see if the Holy Spirit will bless it like he has the New American Standard Bible. If you find something wrong when reading it, that something wrong is you, as the song goes. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Does that mean that real born again people use only the KJV and those who are not yet born again do not? Asking for clarification before I reply. Thanks

I grew up IFB, KJV-only. When I looked objectively at the mss evidence and the facts, I had to leave behind the KJVonly belief. Some are born into it by virtue of going to a certain church or being influenced by certain people. Some who stay in this belief never really examine the facts and just repeat tired old bromides. I'd say this is true of most false beliefs or cults as well.

< The Word of God has nothing to Prove, if you don't like it, Write one that you will like >

Not everyone has the control of state and church as James did, on account of his dislike of the Geneva Bible.

Not trying to be nasty or smug...but what is a God given talent? Are you saying that you prayed and God told you it was a talent to believe in a false doctrine?

O.K. I watched as long as I could before coming in. People are having a ball at our expense, that's O.K. if you don't like the KJV, that is one thing, but since when is the KJV a false doctrine ? That's quite a statement. I hope you can back it up.

The point I was trying to make was read the version you like and worship God because that is what is important.
Not that you can read greek or hebrew.
Not because you read the NIV, ASV, ESV, TLB, NKJV, or the KJV to mention a few. Does it really matter in your walk with God? Is the version you read going to get you to heaven or make your place in heaven different than a fellow christian that read a different version? NO!... I read my KJV and talk to those who also read and sometime we don't even agree on the same scripture. I suppose its also true with those who read other versions. I for one thinks this is a silly argument and will only receive negative comments!... Just my thoughts... Brother Glen

I did not and do not say that the KJV is a false doctrine. I do say that KJVOnlyism is a false doctrine...and I can certainly back that up.

BTW, I use the KJV, respect it, like it, memorize it, etc. I have never belonged to a church where the pastor preached out of another version. But I do not idolize the KJV nor presume it is something that it is not.

I sincerely apologize if I jumped the gun. I have not been around as much recently and it appears that you have moderated your position.

Thank you, Scott.

I do believe God has his word preserved for us in the KJV. I have not read most other versions, except for comparisons. But I'm not idolizing it either. But I do feel that some "scholars" on this board have alluded to me being ignorant, or maybe even brain damaged, because I use it. The argument that the language is outdated falls flat with me. And the mocking that goes on this board makes me cling to my KJV even more. I have actually read, on this very board, that people want the KJV replaced. Some have even said that it needs to be replaced. Mine won't be replaced. I understand what God wants me to understand out of it, & continued study will bring more revelation, from him, thru his preserved word, the only bible I need, KJV.
