My wife and I were watching Jerry Falwell apologize last night on the Geraldo Rivera Show for his statement made on the 700 Club, following the WTC & Pentagon terrorist attacks. Tell you frankly I couldn't watch him finish his statements, we flipped the channel back to CNN. Here is a copy of the text, printed on the Falwell website.

Yes it was a bit foolish on his part to speak his mind like that. But we all make mistakes like that, no harm no foul all is forgiven.

When Jerry Falwell's statements on the 700 Club were posted on another Baptist Forum, I responded by saying his actions were "******." I took a lot of heat from several of his defenders, but today on "Good Morning America" I felt vindicated when Jerry, himself, said it was a ****** thing to do.

I think my post, above, was misunderstood. I din't mind Falwell talking about where the blame for the moral decay of America lies, and it includes every Christian as well as the list he mentioned. Because we are all sinners and come short of the glory of God. If we do not have the sin of comission then we have the sin of omission. What I didn't like about his speech on the Herraldo show and Good Morning America that he tried to back pedal and achieve political correctness. In other words, he feigned Christian humility and apologized to the secular world for being a Bible believing preacher. I could not stomach that. Sorry! :(

Frankly I think its time Mr. Falwell step back and think before he speaks. He has on more than one occasion made christians look like idiots and I certainly do not support or stand behind him. We can't blame the attacks on America's moral decay (even though we have moral decay) those were acts of insane hatred not due to american's moral or lack therof.

First its the "gay" teletubbies and then it was attacking Ellen or was it the other way around? Hmmm anyway, I don't agree with homosexuality, I believe its sinful but I also don't believe we need to publically look like jerks and tear down other's sins since we're not exactly sinless. His best bet would be to keep his personal thoughts of hatred to himself and if he really believes this stuff is wrong he needs to spend more time on his knees in prayer for those people and less time on the tv yapping at the jaws for which he ususally has to take back at a later date anyway.

I used to have great respect for Jerry, not any more though. I do not hate him but I do think he is making us look very very bad.

Bro. Chet and others, who are reading this post, please do not think that my wife and I are backsliding Christians..... by watching the Geraldo Rivera Show.... :D On the contrary! We were just surfing the TV channels looking for news when we espied Dr. Jerry Falwell's face on the tube. So we stopped and listened for a minute or two. But as I said, we didn't like his answers to Geraldo and we switched back to CNN. Just wanted to make it clear! ;)

Sue: You have hit the nail on the head! All sin is equal in the eyes of God. And what is the verse about not removing the speck in your brothers eye because of the plank in your own.......?

    holly,

Yep..which is why I think Jerry should keep his mouth shut and just pray. Gosh, I have enough garbage in my life, I don't need to be ripping others christian and non apart.

He didn't apologize for being a Bible-believing preacher. Had he stuck to being that, he wouldn't have said what he did.

Why did he apologize? The news media sure does know how to silence us. I came across several passages of scripture last week without looking that stated that God allowed the enemies of Israel to win battles because of their sins.

If we can't have a little introspection in times of crisis will we ever see revival. Sure the terrorists are the ones to blame and I appreciate President Bush declaring war on our enemies and holding harboring countries responsible for the actions of those they are protecting. But we must admit that God has blessed and protected our country far beyond what we deserve and at least wonder if He might be allowing terrorists to give us a wake up call.

I know that 2 Chronicles 7:14 was not written with us in view but I think the principles still apply and we need a revival!

Would never think such a thing Barnabas!! I myself really didn't know he was still on anywhere. I don't think I have heard of him being out there really since he got punched in the nose ago.
Btw - Sue. I remember that stuff being said about the teletubbies! Was that really him that brought that up....I had no idea. How ridiculous. That came out the same year I had gotten my son the purple one (Tinky-winky) for christmas! He had a video too, it had no sinful innuendo, the only thing it showed me is that any one of us could go out and make a movie about watching paint dry and make a ton of money [IMG] I guess of they are gay then the teletubbie toast they eat must also be the forbidden fruit huh? Oh my goodness....admitting I know this much about them is kinda embarassing...I think I'm gonna have to go incognito from here on out!LOL

The reaction to Jerry Falwell's comments on this board are an example of Christian's shooting their own wounded. First, on the Teletubby matter. JF never said what he was proported to have said about a Teletubby being gay. The press later acknowledged this, but here on the BB we use this false information to magnify a later JF mistake and beat him over the head with it. SHAME! Second, I, too, cringed when I heard what JF had said. But give the guy a break. He acknowledged his mistake and apologized. I am not a great fan of Falwell, but he has been very instrumental in the last 20-25 years in putting conservative people in political office. He is not your enemy.

I never said I hate the man or anything. I just said I really think Jerry needs to measure what he says. BTW, the teletubby thing was his fault. I am not beating Jerry over the head, and I find it a bit interesting that its ok to make an entire thread of ripping "worst preachers" apart but its not ok to mention that Jerry needs to watch what he says. mmmmm

I'm sure Jerry knows he needs to watch what he says now. How can it be Jerry's fault on the Teletubbies matter when he never said anything. In fact, he was at a pastor's conference the day his "statement" (which he never made) was put out on AP newservice and he did not even know what Teletubbies were.

hmm thats strange because I saw a different interview with Jerry in which he confirmed those comments he made. Anyway, its really not worth it, I'm not angry with him or anything, he is still a brother and he still has issues in his life as I do mine. I can kind of see what your point is too because I get just as upset when others rip apart Jim Baker even though the man repented and is a new person now.
