Save the Pledge of Allegiance and our National Motto

I wasn't aware that the pledge is in danger. As of today, it remains as we know it, "under God" and all.

Keeping the Pledge "as is" is indeed honorable, but I think adopting a new constitutional amendment to do so is overuse of the amendmentment process. I'm gonna have to pass.

If Muslims gain more of a presence, then we will be having to say "one nation under God and Allah,...

Let's keep God and Allah out of our politics and put them in our hearts instead.

 

Gee, post-it, the minute old Israel decided to keep God out of politics, they were invaded. And then again...

even if THEY didn't learn that lesson, you'd think we might!

 

If you take God out of politics, you'll take away all that our Founding Fathers stood for . . .

 

If "In God We Trust" and "Under God" were so important to our nations Founders, why weren't they added until the rampant lunacy of the McCarthy era?

Helen - are you suggesting that we overturn the Constitution and form a theocracy like Israel?

I agree with Newdow on this one.

I don't see a reason for the inclusion of either phrase, and see several reasons for their removal.

I'll also second what Johnv said about overuse of the amendment process.

Count me out.

I agree with Joshua and Jeff but I little side note is the In God We Trust that is printed on our money that same God that we put our nation Under God in the Pledge Of Allegience and worship in church.

I know what the money says but actually what god are we trusting in?

Matthew 22:[19] Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.

Signed the Petition, but I only signed it on the basis of tradition, I like things the way they are, I don't want to break my habit of saying "under God" in the pledge, and I don't want to look at our money and not see "In God We Trust" on it.

 

Who here is comfortable with our money saying "In Allah we Trust". With the rapid advancement of this religion over Christianity, it may become a reality in 75-100, certainly in 200 years.

 

Oh, I believe it will be much sooner than that, post-it.....during the Great Tribulation. Except money will be obsolete, it'll all be in a computer chip in your hand or forehead. 666.

While a constitutional amendment would be overkill, this bill that has been signed by the President gets applause from me!!!

 

We do not need to keep God out of anything we do or say. We only need to keep politics out of Godly things such as our Churches.

I agree we should keep our pledge and motto as is.

I also beleive the current outstripping of Muslims over Christians is due to the former being dominant in countries where the birth rate is high, more are being born under the system than are actually being converted, I would suggest.

I think we should be careful in viewing our nation's laws as being tolerant of others religions, the correct view I would think would be that everyone has the freedom to decide what religious system they will follow.

I believe this was the original goal of our founding fathers. I am not saying the same did not believe in God as such, only that they wanted to guarantee against the possibility of a Catholic, or Baptist, or whatever President, or Congress would require the populace to follow that particular system. I think this stems from the history of England.

It is interesting to note our history textbooks herald pursuit of freedom of religion as the dominant reason for many to come to America, when it was not this pursuit, but rather the pursuit of personal freedom of religion.

I think we should defend our current pledge and our 'In God we Trust' motto; We have let so much be put aside, it is time we begin to make our voices heard nationally once again.

I do not advocate bringing politics into our pulpits, yet I would not shun preaching on unpopular topics, when these may be preached in my heart, unpolitically correct.
