I belong to a church that teaches all of the members how to share the gospel with lost souls.

The Pastor, the pastoral staff and the church membership all participate in this act of reaching people for Christ.

An invitation is given at every church function and service. Believers baptism is performed at every service.

I have read recently that this is not considered a "normal" thing at some churches...

So I was wondering... Do you attend a soul winning church?

To the person and any others who answered sometimes to the "Do you?" question... I can surely relate. Not that you can tell by my posts...but, I'm painfully shy. The thought of going door to door... causes me great anxiety.

How do I do it? Grace, lots of prayer, good friends...and because someone told me once that fear is not of the Lord.

We sure do WisdomSeeker. I have only been out soul winning a few times and on my first trip out there was a lady standing in her driveway and I walked right up to her and as I spoke to her she bent down and as she did, she said something I could not hear, but boy o boy when she raised back up I heard her LOUD and clear :D She was screaming at me! Said I was harassing her. I was apologizing to her as I was trying to remove myself from her property. She was still screaming at me when a policeman pulled up to talk to her and I could see her pointing at me. I thought for sure I was going to get arrested my first trip out. :( But the Lord took care of that because that policeman must have told her there was no law against me inviting her to church. No longer than I was there that was all I had time to do! I have to admit that it scared me pretty bad and I did not go the next week but the next I was right back out there because I know ole satan would just love it if I had let him win!

We have two weekly times that we have organized soul-winning at the church. We are paired into groups of two and sent out to do "cold turkey" door knocking. The idea is to invite folks to church and as the Holy Spirit leads, share the gospel. We are not there to "cram it down their throats." We want to allow the Father to draw them.

The first six weeks of my pastorate here, we had personal evangelisim classes each Sunday night before church to teach people how to present the gospel to a lost person. We want to be clear in what salvation is. No 1-2-3 prayers. No "just say this prayer so I can count you" tactics.

I believe in confrontational (face-to-face) evangelism as opposed to lifestyle (just let them see your Christian walk and they will want what you have) evangelism.

I wouldn't assume that churches that don't give invitations at every service or that don't have believer's baptism (is there any other kind??) at every service are not soul winning churches. That is a non-sequitur.

My question is regarding teh disparity of answers. 100% believe that it is their responsiblity to witness for Christ. ONly 78 % do. Why??? What are you doing to change that?

Glory Bound.. bless your heart... that must have been scarey. Yes there is no law against inviting someone to church... nor is there a law against going onto someone's property...if it's not posted "No Trespassing". I've had my share of curt and angry people too.... I remember how I was when I wasn't saved...and I feel that these people could be falling under conviction...and that's why there reaction is so strong... their hearts are being pricked as it were... That's when you want to make sure that when they look back... your testimony was nice, calm, non-combative and polite. That's what I've been taught...and it sure is true... people often sharing their testimonies later will site many visits from members of our church...and they have often said... they were ashamed that they were so mean to us...because we were always nice to them. ;) For the most part...people are pretty nice...and a lot of christians have said "thank you for going out like you do" that's always a blessing to my heart. Amen, we have simular at our church. Except we have soul-winning classes before going out at 3 scheduled times a week. It's called T.E.A.M. soul-winning.... Train Every Available Member. I agree also with your face to face aproach... because just from my experience... I've met a lot of people that think they already have what christians have... I've heard numerous times (even from my own husband) "I live a good life... I'm a good person... doesn't that mean that I will go to Heaven?"

As far as the "Cram it down your throat" aproach... I don't know about you...but, when someone tells me that I had better do something or else... I just dig my heals in....nope, that approach doesn't work. IMHO [IMG]

We just moved to Mo. a few months ago and joined our current church in July. I had been here working and trying to find the right church for my family since December.

Our pastor is also new and I thank God for him. None of the churches in this area had any type of visitation program... even my new church. We are trying to get it started but only him, me, and my two sons (7 & 9) have been going out regularly. Others have joined us sporadically. We have about 25 members, about half are children. As far as I know, we are the only church with a weekly soul-winning ministry in our two county area... about 20,000 people. The fields are definitely white and the workers few!

As Pastor Bob alluded to, sometimes people will let you share the gospel. Sometimes the best you can hope for is to let them know where you are from, plant a seed, and leave a tract.

We usually have an invitation at the end of our services. He sometimes includes a call to salvation in his messages.

I also try to discuss Christ and present the gospel when opportunities arise at work.

I know the church that WisdomSeeker goes to and I have met her pastor on a couple of different occasions. Their church is a great church and I remember visiting there in the old days when they were just getting started and it is great to see how God has blessed this ministry over the years because of their faithfulness to proclaim the truth to the people of that community and surrounding areas. The last time I was there was almost two years ago, I spoke to a group of college students in the auditorium on a Tuesday evening!
