This morning I had a sudden stroke of genius and realized that after being offended for years by soft porn every time I go into 7-11 to buy gas and coffee that I can just simply buy gas across the street! I also decided to go into 7-11 with my digital camera to show you guys how rediculous its getting. For all of the people who are offeneded by some of the rediculous magazines such as Maxim, FHM, Stuff, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, and others I say we ask www.Conservativepetitions.com to start a petition asking 7-11 to remove these magazines or place them where they will not be seen by every 10 year old boy who walks in to buy candy. When little Timmy goes into 7-11 to buy baseball cards and MnMs, he shouldn't be forced to take in eye-candy in the form of half naked women as well. The poor kid will be sexually frustrated by the time he's 11...

Please write Phil, send him the link above and ask him to start a petition asking 7-11 to be more responsible! Thanks and God Bless

    Phil,

I'm writing because I'd like to ask you to consider starting a petition that could possibly have an effect on young children and men all throughout the country. 7-11 has a very bad habit of displaying magazines such as Maxim, FHM, Stuff, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, and others at eye level where young kids can see them. As an example of how bad its getting I've included a picture I took this morning at my local 7-11 where I've decided to no longer buy gas or coffee. If you look carefully at this picture, the covers of the magazines have pictures that depict women touching themselves. I feel sorry for young boys and girls that go into the store and have to see such garbage. The little boys are no doubt being taught how to be womanizers and any little girl that sees this is being taught that women are sex objects. Maxim magazine seemingly has no problem openly treating women this way as evidenced by the title of their magazine "Blender" (see the picture I've included) and 7-11 goes along and displays the magazine right at the counter.

    Sincerely,
    Chris ******

Almost every place you shop sells these magazines. Christians aren't active enough and don't care enough to speak out loud enough to stop it, and most likely never will.
Heck, they can't even talk loud enough to make much of an impact on the murder of babies, what's a little soft porn?
And I agree, that's exactly what it is, and I really don't enjoy seeing more than half-naked women everywhere or having my kids see it either.
I noticed that in women's magazines many of the pics are woman undressed like this, and in the men's magazines it's....women dressed like this. What's up with THAT?

There's a few of us out there that care enough to speak out. The problem is that for every 1 Christian who wants to do something, he's surrounded by 19 whiny christians who are dis-interested or think that they are being extremists if they take action. If the 5% of Christians who actually care could unite, instead of being scattered we finally could effect change.

Thats why webmaster and I created:

    Joshua asks...

YES!!! It doesn't have to be nudity to be pornography. It is the thoughts that the images provoke that make it sinful, thus porn.

    God Bless!!!

What is the general consensus on the Sear catalog? With all those bras and bikinis, my mom used to call it "The poor man's playboy". Far more risqué than that photo of 7-11.

Stores sell these magazines because there is a market for them and people buy them. Generally, I would not expect that there are very many Christians who are buying them. A boycott wouldn't do much good, since the market for the magazines would still be out there and I doubt if it would seriously dent their business.

However, I have learned that there is positive action that can be taken. It will protect your kids from having to see this in the store all the time, if it does nothing else.

Locate a convenience store close to you that does not sell them. You may have to go a little out of your way to find one, but I am sure there is one close enough so that it does not completely inconvenience you. Every time you go in, regardless of who is behind the counter, make a point of thanking them for not carrying those magazines. It will make a difference, trust me.

I guess I am fairly lucky. A neighborhood family owns the convenience market that is just two blocks from my house. I've made it a point to complement the clerk every time I am in there, thanking them for not putting magazines out in front of the counter, and for keeping the beer, wine, liquor and cigarettes off to the side and behind the counter. Their gas price is always a couple of cents lower than everyone else nearby and they seem to be plenty busy. I always get a nice response from them in return, and they've allowed me to put up window posters to advertise events at my school and church.

This is true, such examples can be found anywhere. Sometimes you must pick and choose your battles...you can't tackle everything at once. The true battle lies within the Christian army...half the army would rather sit around the camp and make excuses about why nothing they attempt will work. Such Christians lack faith.

Has anyone asked Phil yet to get the petition going for us? I bet he just might if enough people asked him.

In Australia the church has a group amongst them called "Federation for the Family" who are dedicated to taking on Pornography. Jack Sonneman who runs it has campaigned against them for years and has seen a alot of success. He is hated in the media and has been threatened several times.

However Playboy are no more in Australia and Penthouse are struggling. Federation for the Family hit there advertisers and all secular companies have withdrawn support.

However it is right that there are a number of Porn mags masquerading as magazines that focus on cars, fashion etc. If we oppose Porn then we oppose it all. How could you take down Cosmopolitan? Noobdy ever thought in a million years the the Australian Playboy Goliath could be slain, Yet God raised up a David. Yes there are a number of onlookers on the battle in the Christian church, there are also Davids who dont fear Giants.

How many churches have fuel(gas) accounts with Porn Sellers? This is the first place to start. Find out where your churches fuel account is and if it is not appropriate get the best option.

I noted that a new forum is opening up for Christian Activism. maybe we should plug interested people into it?

There is so much out there we do not like, and consider wrong, that we are never going to stop all of it, and maybe not even dent it. Each person is going to have to decide which ones are the most offensive to them and work on that, we can't all go after the samething. We live in a world drowning in sin, we can't expect better from them then what you see now. Be active against whatever is the heavest on your heart, I'm not saying don't. But each person is going to have something different that they feel deserves the most of their time doing.
I don't know anything about any of these magaazines becasue I just don't usually go down the magazine isles. The last cosmopolitan magazine I saw(2 days ago) she had all her clothes on.

    Hi,
Thank you for sharing this info. I will remember that the next time I have an opportunity to shop there.
I also would like to offer another tip. I have complained about these type of magazines on low shelves before at two different stores. Immediately they were removed and I was told by the manager that they were accidently put there. So, it doesn't hurt to say something to the manager as well.

There is an advantage to being short in stature in Canada. Thee is a law about how high on the shelves these so-called porn magazines must be.

Frankly, I do not support censorship. The next thing the world censors will be my Bible. We are talking about the world who makes up the rules, and not the Christian community.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    PS, I select my reading.

I agree, when we allow censorship, we are going to be the first to suffer for it. Whatelse is the world going to want to censor but the very book that tells them they are wrong.

Just ask them to move it up on the top of the rack. Start there first.

So under this definition is a woman batting her eyes at a man, or even smiling a sweet smile at a man, porn because of the images it may provoke in his mind?

Unreal thought here, but Playboy and Penthouse ARE soft porn compared 10,000 sites on the internet.

Anybody who has a website gets a gajillion links to some absolutely unbelievable porn sites. I am embarrassed to even talk about it. And outlook express allows me to "filter", but if I want to "block" something, I must open it up. Ugh.

I'd be first in line to sign up against any form of the stuff.
