In the thread Defending Eternal Security standingfirminChrist was asked about his opinion on Matthew 25:14-30 the parable where the the Master goes on a trip and gives his servants talents according to their ability. Here is his reply:
This is an interesting take on the situation but it doesn't seem to pan out when one considers the context of the passage. The servant is obviously a child of God because he has been given a talent and he chose to do nothing with it. And thus was punished. Another interesting thing to note in this passage is the fact that the servant is cast into outerdarkness. The Greek doesn't say 'hades', 'gehanna', or damnation. My question to those who believe you can lose your salvation is it possible there are level's to heaven? Those who serve Christ faithfully will live in a better "place" or "part" of heaven? Now it does mention "weeping and gnashing of teeth so I understand that wouldn't really be Heaven. Just a question I was curious about and didn't want to sidetrack the other thread.

DeclareHim, this doesn't have anything to do with salvation by grace through faith. That is a one time event that can never be changed. The Bible is explicitly clear on that. This has to do with the coming kingdom of Christ and not all Christians will be able to participate in this kingdom as part of the bride or as co-heirs.

This is what normally happens for those that take verses and say one can lose their salvation. The salvation that is talked about is a temporal salvation having to do with the coming kingdom. We can be in a position to one day realize the salvation of our souls regarding the kingdom, but we can also fall away from that salvation as per Hebrews 6.

Send me a message if you would like some more information on this subject. God's blessings to you!!!

    Amen, J Jump

I would say that since God is just you better believe that there are levels of God's judgment upon the unbeliever in the Lake of Fire for all eternity and the believer at the Judgment seat of Christ for those who will partake and those who will not. Outer darkness I believe is simply hell while also believing it is not all going to be the same temperature for eho ever will be there.

    2Peter 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

Notice the "down to hell" and the "into chains of darkness" Hell must dark...

I do not believe there will be levels in eternity after the 1,000 year Kingdom because its not by works.

May God bless his word in your hearts

I agree completely. However, have you ever noticed just how little the Bible actually says about the period of time after the Kingdom?

This is an interesting take on the situation but it doesn't seem to pan out when one considers the context of the passage. The servant is obviously a child of God because he has been given a talent and he chose to do nothing with it.

Are you saying, then, that all good teachers and doctors, for instance, are necessarily children of God, then?

I don't think that the gift of various talents is only to children of God. Every human being alive probably has one talent or another, or several. It is how we use them that counts.

And thus was punished. Another interesting thing to note in this passage is the fact that the servant is cast into outerdarkness. The Greek doesn't say 'hades', 'gehanna', or damnation.

The light of the New Jerusalem is Christ Himself. So to be cast into outer darkness is to be cast away from Christ. Whatever name you want to call it, it sure isn't heaven!

Talents in this parable is not talking about abilities, per se. But I think you knew that.

I think this passage is referring to using what we have to work for Christ. If it's referring to normal talents and attributes could you not use the passage to claim you could work your way into Heaven? Because if I'm a poor kid but God gives me a talent to study and I become a lawyer then use the money I make to help support an orphange is that not taking my one talent (to study) and turning it into 4 or 5 talents of which the Master would be pleased?

What one 'talent' in particular has the Lord given to all His? The light of the Gospel. Taking the truth that sets you free and hiding it away is shameful.

Mt 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
4 ΒΆ And Jesus answered and said unto them,

the parable was given to disciples, or shall we say believers.
Jesus traveled to heaven (far country) and he will be back, he called his servants and gave them the holy spirit, his Word, grace, to name a few.

Now why in the world should this be difficult to understand hearken I pray with humility...
Every believer in Jesus is a servant with work to do for his master, if he (the servant) does not work he will suffer in outer darkness(hell) during the 1,000 year Kingdom of Heaven, this has nothing to do with whether or not the servant was a servant(bought by the blood) the question on this particular day in Mtt. 25 will be "what have my servants DONE"

Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him

    1Th 1:10
And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come

    1Th 5:9
For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

There will be no punishment or judgement for the true servants of God

    Luke 12:47-48
47 And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

Notice please if you will how God appointed the promise land to many:

Leviticus 20:24 But I have said unto you, Ye shall inherit their land, and I will give it unto you to possess it , a land that floweth with milk and honey: I am the LORD your God, which have separated you from other people.

Did all enter into the promise land? No...
So it would not be wise to just grab a statement in God's word assuming there are no conditions.

Also I do partly agree with you IF you mean this:

John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

A believer is eternally and everlastingly saved form ever paying the debt of sin he deserves.
Jesus paid it all. so in on sense this wrath of God will never be experienced by a believer.

    But:

Hebrews 10:30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
2Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Wrath will come upon disobedient believers, you must understand that the free forgiveness and grace from God that saves all believers and gives everlasting life does not start until after Jesus enemies be made his footstool (after the Kingdom of heaven, 1,000 year reign)

Ephesians 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience .

Parables have one point to make. We should not try to take every little detail and come up with a parallel.

This parable and the one before it are about the "kingdom of heaven." This parable seems to indicate the same thing that the wheat and the tares indicates about the manifestation of the kingdom. There are believers and unbelievers in the visible manifestation until the end when the angels gather the elect and cast away the wheat. The servant who did nothing with his talen is a tare that is cast away. The servants who receive rewards are the elect who enter eternity in heaven. "Well done good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of thy Lord."

The promised land was the land from the Nile to the Euphrates. (Genesis 15:18) The promised land is a type of spiritual salvation. However, the Land Flowing with Milk and Honey, is a type of the Kingdom. Crossing the Red Sea; baptism.

The Kingdom is the better inheritance, not simply salvation.

The parable is concerning the Kingdom, not spiritual salvation. The wheat and tares are both types of those who are saved, but one will enter into the joy of the Lord.

    I disagree.

Christ doesn't mentioned about 'a thousand years' anywhere in the context of Matthew chapter 24 and 25. Obivously, Christ was speak toward US as servants. Period. That's simple and plain.

Lu 19:13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. (Jesus return)

14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

15 And it came to pass, that when he was returned,

16 Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.

17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.

18 And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.

19 And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.

20 And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:

22 And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow.

23 Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?

Lu 19:27 But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

Remember what they said when he left??

We will not have this man to reign over us.

The "MASTER" of this "Servant" wasn't "JESUS", but "Satan". thou wicked servant.

Ro 6:16 Know ye not, that

    to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey;

whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
