Baptist men's sunday

    Is this event observed at all baptist churchs.. Or just the churchs in our area?? For those who may not know what it is, It's when the men lead the services on a appointed sunday. From the pulpit to the sunday school classes.

    Well, we are doing this as well this Sunday. We are having a Fellowship breakfast Saturday morn, and then Sunday we will be leading the entire service, choir (now that should be interesting :D)and all.
    I am even one of the men that will be giving their testimony that morning.

    OD, I think it's safe to say that there isn't anything that is observed in all baptist churches. I've never heard of this, but our church generally follows the liturgical year for special events, with the exception of Baptist Heritage Sunday.

    Would say that 99% of the ifb do NOT follow any calendar or observe special Sundays. I've never heard of "Baptist Men's Sunday" or "Baptist Heritage Sunday".

    Some ifb might observe Right to Life Sunday (as we did last week). Other than that I'm at a loss.

    Could you explain more of its history? I'd appreciate understanding more of where these observances came from and why we are NOT doing them! Maybe it's time we got with the program!

    Every Sunday in Feb. we will be doing something special leading up to our chruch's 29th Anniversary at the end of the month.

    The First Sunday will be Ladies Day. All of the Ladies are to Dress in the best. The ladies will give testimonies, sing, tell what the church and the people in it mean to them.

    The Second Sunday will be Men's Day. Same as Ladies Day except for the Men.

    The Third Sunday will start our Revivall.

    The Fourth Sunday will be Youth Day. See Ladies Day above.

    Our church does th is also, usually the men get together and have a big breakfast that they have to cook and clean up from, Eggs, gravy, biscuits ,country ham, sausage, bacon.

    Wonder where this comes from, and why there is no women's day?

    I think this is sort of a SBC thing. I have not been active with the Baptist Men that long, but from what I gather this is sort of a tradition. (Like we needed more of that. :D)
    We did have a Right to Life service last Sunday as well, but I think that sort of coincided with Pres. Bush's declaration. Seems a lot of denominations did the same thing. (Yikes!! what did I just say?) :eek:

    We did not observe a "Right to Life Sunday," but the Lifeway Sunday school literature (SBC) focused on Exodus 1 as a parallel to abortion. I hadn't made a connection.

    We do not observe any special sundays, once in a while we have the Lord's supper, but it's not on a schedule. And my Pastor jealously guards his pulpit. Once in a while we have missionaries, in fact this week we have Brother Garvin Dykes, if anybody has heard him, let me know. I have heard several sermons by him & think he is a great speaker.

    We have Baptist Men's day--it was supposed to be this weekend, but most forgot.....so, they postponed it until they get it together.

    I'm SBC and have never heard of it.

    I prefer to honor the Lord and not Baptist men on Sunday :D

    Caught that one, too! We often do schedule "revival" meetings, "evangelistic" campaigns etc. These sound good on paper, but I agree, it is NOT something we can conjur up or plan without God!

    At the same time, it is simply TRADITIONAL to use such terms. When I go out to churches to holding "meetings", I ask that they be advertized as "Bible Conference" or "Prophecy Conference" or "Israel Seminar" etc. This is not false advertising -- but praise God, we have seen good revivals, evangelism, etc come from God as a result.

    Well, in that case, I'm sorry but you will have to turn in your SBC badge. And don't give us that "but I didn't know" sob story either. [​IMG]

    Just kidding.

    But to clear up one error, this is not a service to honor the men, but just one that the men lead the complete service.
