Bro. Glen, it was an interesting and impressive web site. But it is not pretty up-to-date on the links it provides. I was looking at Answers in Genesis and the ChristianAnswersNet came in. Likewise of several other links on the same site. They may have to update.

Primarily I too am a saved Baptist. I am also affiliated with the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc and all of its levels (district, association, state). I am baptist from the WOMB to the TOMB.

 

I am part of the Baptist Missionary Association of America.....commonly called the BMA.

I grew up in the Baptist Bible Fellowship,in fact my father was a BBF missionary to two different countries.

The church I've been a part of for the last 20 years is completely independent, fundamental Baptist...so independent, in fact, that I fear we are growing increasingly isolated,like an island off to ourselves.

There is no other church in town, apparently, that we can really fellowship with because their "standards" are not exactly like ours.

Can this be a good thing? Is it possible for your church to be too independent? I worry about this.

I think a problem arises when a body of Christian believers begins to think that they are the only ones who have it right, and that everybody else is going to hell b/c they don't attend the right church. A good indication you are headed for trouble is when its not enough that a person accept the good news of Jesus Christ-they must also agree with X, Y, and Z. There is a reason that the account of the robber's conversion on the cross is included in the Gospel. He didn't have to recite any latin phrases or sign any creeds. He just accepted Jesus, and was saved. Losing sight of the big picture is a dangerous thing.

 

By the way, I am a traditional Baptist. I find myself most in agreement with the Texas Baptists (Bgct), a little right of the CBF, and left of the current SBC. This places me to the center-right among mainstream Christians, center-left among Baptists today, and considered left-field on this board (or so I am called). Ultimately, I hope it leaves me standing with Jesus (on doctrinal positions-I know where I'm going).

Way to the left of the new SBC and the BGCT (which are generally distinguishable only by their views on women and their dislike for each others' leaders), part of the left wing of the CBF and educated at the seminary where the CBF is located. Endorsed as a chaplain by the Alliance.

In what sense is this question meant? The regular or the de luxe model? The new-and-improved Baptist with bleach? The recycled kind? The more user-friendly type?

Can you still be a Southern Baptist if you don't live in the south, but if you do make a pilgrimage to Nashville, Atlanta, or Richmond?
Can you still be an Independent Baptist even if you are dependent upon Jesus Christ?
Can you still be Primitive Baptist if you use electric lights?
Can you be in the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship if the reason you got into it was because there were some Baptists you wished not to cooperate with?
Does the Baptist Joint Committee on Public Affairs smoke joints in public meetings?

Although I dislike turning down the flippance, identifying your church or the regional/national bodies to which it is affiliated does not reveal very much about an individual. If you're vying for some kind of position in one of these bodies, then vocally claiming the points of that group's statements or charter may suddenly become important. Otherwise, for the vast majority of pew-warmers, Baptists warm pews about the same way.

Wow, just a simple question. It was not intended to offend anyone nor insult anyone, just a question.

BTW, I'm a Primitive Baptist Elder and we do use electricity and have indoor plumbing too. "Primitive" refers to the first or origional and not stone age.
