Favorite Homemaking Things?

I have to tell you that I loved reading your post!I could just picture you sitting out on the porch with your sweet tea(LOVE the stuff)and just enjoying God's creation...I don't get to do much of that with a 4 yr. old running around-BUT at night when we say our prayers and I look into his little face, I am overwhelmed at the beauty of this little guy that God created, his cute little perfect button nose-those long eye lashes, how sweet & innocent they are while sleeping...and I thank God for sending him to us for us to love

My favorite things are being with my children. I love spending time with them,just getting to know them and seeing God work in their lives. It is priceless. I love cooking,although I'm not as good at from scratch kind of stuff,I do make a lot of delicious meals and enjoy seeing that my family is well taken care of. I even enjoy some cleaning aspects of staying home. I love having an organized home and love that feeling of having the closets organized....I enjoy getting up early to have a quiet time with God and then focusing on how I can serve my family.

I love the lazy summer days of sitting on the patio,by the pool and just looking out at all the wonderful things God has made for us to enjoy.(you don't have to be a homemaker to do that,I just enjoy the non-rushing atmosphere we can have with my agenda out of the way.) If I worked,I would have an agenda other than serving my family....and the job would come first. I couldn't handle that. So,I just thank the Lord for every day and hope to better serve Him as I go.

I hung out laundry today and I love to see laundry on the line, it makes me feel as f I'm doing exactly what I am supose to. i ahve a dryer but don't use it a lot because it makes an awful racket, so I hang clothes and I feel more like I'm doing something when I do. I would never be able to work, I love being home taking care of my husband.
Snickerdoodle cookies? I really don't think I've heard of them,just a candle scent, which is wonderful, how about the recipe?
Which is another thing I love about being hime, collecting recipes to make Rob something good to eat, even if it takes hours too cook it.

 

Making my new house a home is most enjoyable to me. I started with my daughter's room. I stenciled burgundy/wine colored bows and ribbons and flowers around the top, and then made balloon valances out of a patchwork fabric that had burgundy, green, navy, and other colors in it. The carpet is that same burgundy/wine color, so to set off all of that dark, bright red, we put a white eyelet bedding on her bed. She chose some fabric for throw pillows, and we made those together. What fun she and I had with this project!! It made for quality (and quantity, I must add!) time with my daughter!

I love finding antiques and used but lovely items to decorate with as well. My husband likes that I save money, but he also appreciates coming home to a creatively decorated house. It makes him feel like a king! He also doesn't mind working with me, so we can spend time together. He likes Goodwill as much as I do, and will even get along side of me and paint a few walls.

I love snickerdoodles, too. Something about that cinnamon aroma.

One of my favorite homemaking things?

Hearing the lids on mason jars going pop...pop...pop after all the work is done and the mess is cleaned up. It's a great feeling of satisfaction and they always look so pretty sitting on the counter for a day or so (until they're put properly away).

First sips of coffee in the morning with sunbeams slipping thru the window and that quiet peace, just the Lord, two cats, and me for awhile.

Starting out the day with Jesus makes the day go along better.

 

What a nice thread! I like you, Granny. We lived in New Orleans for a while, and reading your post I could almost taste that thick, good ole Community Coffee.
I have only been staying home for about a year and a half now - since we have had kiddos. But I, too, love the sleepy little eyes of my girls, a clean kitchen and doing for my family. I really am proud to understand my little girl's "toddler" language - it is so cute. And I love hearing the garage door opening when Daddy gets home. I love going outside everyday to check/water the garden, and I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the baby birds hatch and grow into being able to fly - right on my front porch. God is so amazing!

 

Although I often have to schedule my days almost to the half-hour to get everything done, it's ME that does the scheduling! I like that. I know what I'm capable of. Because I generally only sleep about six hours a night, a nap midday is vital. I love being able to do that.

We have a mint plant in a half oak barrel under the edge of the clothes line, so when I rotate it, the longer things will brush the mint and I LOVE that smell! I just took the clothes off a few minutes ago.

I love the sense of accomplishment when I have redone a room, paint and all. I look at it and it is in colors I like and it smells new....love it.

I love being able to take time to play with the dogs and train them. We just got a new puppy (a K-Mart 'special', Lab-shepherd mix but looks shepherd and is incredibly smart and easy to train at only 3 months old!) that my daughter named King -- after the Sacramento Kings -- and I really enjoy working with him.

I love making pumpkin 'puddings.' We grow a lot of our own food, so I have a LOT of pumpkin meat in the freezer. Pie crusts take a little time, so we found that if we simply make up the inside of the pie and put it in a casserole dish without worrying about any crust, and cooking it that way, it is yummy and not bad on the calories, either! Spooning up some fresh out of the oven and putting vanilla ice cream on it kills the calorie count, but tastes like a bit of heaven!

I guess I have a really strong 'nesting' instinct or whatever folks want to call it. I love being able to work at home. I miss the kids and their noise (four of the six are grown and out of the house now), but love knowing where my things are!

I love growing our own food and freezing it. A full freezer makes me feel rich! I love baking different kinds of bread, and the way it makes the house smell. No breadmaking machine for me, please. It gets kneaded by Helen-muscle and I get 'cook's privilege' of the end of one of the loaves fresh from the oven with butter melting all over it!

I love being home to be the one who takes care of Chris (my retarded son). No one could possibly love him as I do and WANT to make sure he is taken care of and comfortable. God has really given me a heart for him.

I love having the time to be here exercising my mind and making friends and chatting.

And oh do I love gardening! I really miss Barry right now and so to distract myself I took my hedge clippers and really clipped all kinds of things for over an hour. My arms are a little sore now, but a lot got done and it made one evenings' hours pass a little more easily away from him. People slow down when they pass our yard. I love it!

The only thing I feel guilty about at all is that I really hate sewing. I know I could save a lot of money if I took the time to do that, but time is what I really don't have right now, since I do spend time here on the computer actually working during the day (I'm an editor)!

I do thank God for having given me the resources to be able to be a stay at home mom during this time in my life. When I did teach outside the home, many years ago and a few years at the end, the hours always coincided with my children's hours away, but it still left me pressured to get everything done when I got home. So I really appreciate this time now.

The best part of being a stay at home wife/mom? My husband appreciates what I do. That's the topmost bestest thing.

 

Probably the neatest thing about it has been the opportunity to teach my children all kinds of different subjects and figure out what each of their distinct learning patterns are. It makes for a much easier, better relationship when you can understand how their minds operate, what style of learning is hardest for them to do, and what style they can relate to. It's a major breakthrough when you finally "get" it! LOL Those of you who homeschool or supplement your kids school curriculum at home might understand better what I'm trying to say.

I have done both. I worked full time in S. Carolina, and enjoyed every moment of it. I gave as much time to my children as anyone at home gave their children (mine are a little older than 4). My husband is in the military so we are now in Hawaii. Before coming I prayed to the Lord to make it possible for me to stay home. The Lord said he would provide for us, and he has abundantly. I enjoy being home too. I get to do things such as gardening, more arts and crafts. Help the kids with their homework. Do activities such as go to the pool or beach after school with them. The following is a good day for me:
I get up make my husbands lunch, take him to work, kiss each other good bye until he gets home, get the kids up out of bed make their breakfast, get their school lunches ready, take them to school, come home: open all the windows in the house, and let the trade winds blow through. Make my bed check the kids rooms to make sure they have made their bed. Vaccum, polish, wash floors, do laundry, prepare meal for the evening. Around noon time I'm done. I go out back and potter around pulling weeds (mow the yard once a week, and edge) water the plants. Then I sit on my patio with a cold drink of ice water or lemonade and thank God every day for everything that I have, and everything that I can see, smell, hear, taste, and think to myself how wonderful he has made this place for us. The birds are beautiful and I watch a mother bird feed her baby birds. I read my bible out on the patio and do my devotion with God, and I truly am greatful for everything that he has blessed me with. I enjoy every moment as I know that it could be gone in a moment. Then I go pick my kids up who are excited about what they have done for the day. I make them a drink of lemonade and a snack, and then they do their homework. Put all their stuff away. Then they get free time until dad comes home. I go get daddy from work, and I'm always excited to see him. We sit and talk for a while, as I cook dinner. We eat together always as a family, and then my son goes to sports stuff, my daughter goes off to do her stuff, and we run them all over the place and then when we're done with that or church we do a family devotion for 30 minutes every night. We play games together. The kids try to learn new memory verses every chance they get. We have a contest right now in the house who can memorize 50 by the end of the month. I think either my husband or son will win. For each verse we memorize we get a treat from the card container. My son just won a prize of me cooking his favorite meal which is fried chicken with dirty rice and corn on the cob. Then the children get ready for bed. We get them tucked in, and then it is time for my husband and I to be together. I get many back rubs from him, but most of all we enjoy being together. He is my best friend.

Hallo everbody I´m new on this forum. This is my first message, hope I´m doing it right. This topic captured my attention.

I´m a homeschooling mother, but don´t live in the USA, so most of the time I´m a strange bird for many people around. I´m glad I found this forum with people that are saved and thinks as I do.
I enjoy homeschooling my children and see them grow while I do my best to nurture them in the way of the Lord.

I enjoy having breakfast with my kids while we have a intensive talk about anything that is in there interest.

I love being able to enjoy my family on family trips while others are rushing to work, and their kids are at school.

I thank God for being able to be at home with my kids and to see them grow every day.
It is wonderfull how God give us these kids, which are like blank books to write in.

We have a special forum here to discus homeschooling, so you have come to the right place!
Well ladies, I can't exactly post about homemaking cause I'm not married, don't have kids, and don't live in my own house, but I have enjoyed reading what some of you posted. I do enjoy sewing though. And cooking {if I get the recipe right }

When I first read this thread, I thought you were joking. Then I thought, oh yeah this is granny. I can't wait to get there! I don't ever get to sit and enjoy the stillness (not with 6 kids and 3 of them preschoolers)! But I do enjoy being a SAHM. Besides the fact that I get to watch my kids grow and learn (I also am a homeschooler) I really love the fact that I can help people. If I had an outside job, I wouldn't be able to do that as much. There wouldn't be enough time. That's my favorite thing but there are lots of others. One of them is that when I go to the grocery store everyone always asks "Are they all yours?!?! " I always feel like I am showing off when I say yes. I just love that!

 

I cann't believe that I missed this post when it first came out. For years and years I thought that there must be something strange about me because I loved being a homemaker and every one that I knew loved to work. Now I have friends that enjoy being homemakers and it is really nice to have things in commen to talk about.
I am not crazy about cooking but I make up for it by ironing everything that will lie flat. Being at home has allowed me to learn to enjoy flower gardening and quilting and playing the piano. If I were not able to stay at home I could not have enjoyed the first seven months of my first grandson's life. My daughter has lived with us even though she has a trailor house across the street. She married ten days ago and the newly weds still live here. As strange as that might sound to some people I have enjoyed having them here.
Being at home allows me the freedom to do volunteer work and to be available to help people when needed. No job could have ever given me the joy that our Lord has given me as I learn to do the simple things of life.

 

Hi ladies,
I really like to cook, but hate to clean up.
with 2 kids under 3, I have to plan what to cook between naps and getting the 2 1/2 year old boy out of trouble! (very busy, very inquisitive and stubborn little angel he is )
now I have a pork roast in the crockpot and am gonna try a new bread recipe. "Provolone Corn Loaf", although I will be using Cheddar.
If you like, I will post the recipe.

Light Bulb just came on. Is there a recipe thread on here? That would be a good thing, don't you think?
