I've also heard converted Jews state that keeping the "law" IE: the ritual law, is a tremendous boost in their witness to other orthodox Jews. They felt that if they abandoned "the law" as no longer obligatory, the unsaved would be turned off before any attempt could be made to witness!

</font>
That is absolutely true when one is considering
outreach, but I was speaking from a strictly
personal point, rather from that of outreach.
Strictly from that personal point, we have
entirely Too Much Fun with the feasts! 8o)
Tradition is "They tried to kill us, we won, let's
eat!" Most Baptist are horrified when they look
in their photo albums at the pictures of church
gatherings--they are always stuffing their
faces! Well, they have nothing on any
Messianics, Baptist-based or not! 8o)

Well, I'm sure glad that wasn't an attack. :rolleyes:

Didn't the Pharisees deny the deity of Christ ? Isn't that what a Pharisee is ? They put ritual and position above the true meat of the word of God. If they are around today, you may find them in a church full of rituals, like maybe the RCC, but for what I have read on this very board, I would sooner associate myself with Ernie Brazee, Granny Gumbo, Don, (just to name a very few) who actually stand up for the Bible, and not second guess what it says, then the people here who call us Pharisees. Calling IFBers Pharisees tells me that you have no idea what a Pharisee was.

Sorry, I'm not going to let comments like that one go unchallenged.
</font>
Denying the deity of Christ is NOT the only criterium for being a Pharisee. But, for a typical IFB person, that would be the main point. I was in IFBism and KJV camps for 30 years, and didn't realize that I had been taught Pharisaically. I praise God that my eyes were opened....and I'm FREE AT LAST! And let me further ad, Mr. Curtis, you would speak negatively of me, imply I was stupid no matter what, as you have done in almost every post you've answered of mine. Therefore I will not waste my time on you any further. Have a nice life, and I will pray for you. [IMG]

Hi there, I think there were both good and bad Pharisees in the New Testament. The Pharisees in Acts are generally seen in a good light, and Paul says at the end of Acts that he is (not was) a Pharisee. He also uses Pharisaical reasoning to aid the early church. Jesus condemns certain features of Pharisees, his seven woes find an echo in the Talmud where there are also seven woes to the Pharisees. The issues both object to are hypocracy and ostentatious religion which seeks the praises of men, not God.

If you want to look for modern day pharisees, look for people who practice their religion for others to see. Ministers who wear dog collars, bishops who wear purple robes, etc (Jesus explicitly condemned people who wore "religious" cloths to get the praises of men). You can make your own list for spiritual hypocrits.

All the best, Colin

Brother Tony, get a grip. I never implied you were stupid, or anything else like that. I was challenging a statement you made, just like statements I make get challenged. That's what happens here.

If I called you stupid, I'm sure the moderators would have said something. I don't agree with a lot of what post-it, or Joshua says here, but I have never called them stupid, and I didn't call you it, either. Please give an example of me following you around and ridiculing you. I don't have the time, or ambition to do it. If you don't want to converse with me, then don't. But don't lie about it, either.

And I do appreciate the prayer, we could all use it!!!
