    Hi Everybody,

Back in Mark 9:14-29, Jesus sets down the precedence that everything is possible for a believer.

In light of that fact, should a person pray to God for Him to send or reveal a wife/husband?

A lot of older christians in my church believe this, but does God answer such requests? Could you please cite scriptures to confirm or oppose this assertion?

Thanks everyone for all of your help. Its been a long time since I last posted.

Well, I Believe the Bible shows us in many places that we can pray to God for anything. I prayed that God would help me find the one he had for me, and He did. But I know of others who have prayed that too and are still waiting. We must be content with whatever God's will is for us (and I know that you are:))

Yeah, pray for God for whatever. If He doesn't approve of your request, He won't answer it.

When you pray you should be mindfull to stay within the will of God.
Romans 8:27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

God answers all prayers... but people have to remember that there are two possible answers. Yes and No. Sometimes No can be a hard answer to take.

I must admit that I pray nightly for God to send me a christian woman of strong faith to be my spouse. Many of the older members of my church say that they prayed this as young men and have all received wives that can be called nothing less than blessings from God.

I sort of pray for a spouse. I pray that I will know it when God sends me one.

    Proverbs 18:22
Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.

This seems to indicate that you have to look for a wife. I’m not saying don’t pray however it doesn’t seem prudent to just pray and hope God drops one in your lap.

In the scripture you referred to, Jesus said “If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth” while I believe that, dispensationaley, that’s not a direct promise to you or I, if you couple that with James 2:20 ‘…faith without works is dead”, you are going to have to look and pray that God leads you in finding a wife.

Couldn’t help but notice SaggyWoman is in North Carolina and you are in South Carolina….. Wouldn’t it be a hoot… A Baptist Board wedding
    :D :D :D :D ;)

I'm not sure why anyone would question asking God for a godly spouse. God already knows the desires of your heart, he knows what you need and what you want and the bible also says to ask and you shall recieve...God knows....just ask him.

Thank you for your responses everybody. Keep 'em comin' [IMG]

Here's another view that I have been told about asking God for your spouse: if you pray and devote yourself to followng God's will in His Word, then you find your called role within His ministry. While pursing the call, God eventually reveals to you a companion with the same calling. As a couple, therefore, you contend for the same goal in the name of Christ.

Paul teaches us not to marry, unless you have to. So first pray that you don't want to get married. Pray with all your heart on this one. Then if you absolutely can't stop obsessing about needing a wife (only God know why :D ), then pray for the greatest woman to be your wife. But since I got her already, your choice is pot luck. ;)

"Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you."

Sound familiar? God knows what you need. He knows the plans He has for you. Pray the prayer Jesus prayed in the Garden: "Father, not my will, but thine be done."

My heart aches for my oldest son who is also lonely for someone to share his life with. But he knows to wait on the Lord. He knows that to be the best husband and father he can be, there are evidently some things the Lord wants to take care of first, both in his life and in the lives of those who will later also be involved.

My second son, on the other hand (26 this year), got a girl pregnant, married her, they had two more, and were divorced this past March. What a horrid way to go for the adults and the children involved!

All that being said, if you are truly born again then you have the Holy Spirit indwelling you. And He puts desires into your heart that He has every intention of fulfilling at the right time. So smile and wait and know that something incredible will be coming your way. Just seek ye first God's kingdom and His will and you will be stunned at what He is preparing for you.

Guess I qualify as one of the "older" christians who said they prayed for finding their mate. God certainly does hear and honor prayers.

I would caution on every prayer that we heed the scriptural caveat -
Did you catch it? "According to His will". We need to realize that we must first ask for God's perfect will to be done.

Perhaps His will is NOT to be married. Maybe it IS to be married. Pray for HIS WILL to be made exceedingly manifest!

Actually Pete He will answer it, its just that the answer might be NO. It is my belief that GOD answers all our prayers in one of three ways, 1. Yes, 2. Later, or 3. No. GOD might grant our request right away because it is what HE wants for us then. HE might grant our request at a later date (possibly even years or decades later) because when we make the request the time is not yet right. GOD might deny our request because it is our will and not HIS.

    J5000,
Yes. Pray about all major decisions in your life!
    Here's a Biblical formula:
    1 Thessalonians 5:17 + Philippians 4:11 + Psalm 46:10 = answered prayer!
1 Thes. 5:17 -- Let God be the Lord of your life. Always consult Him about guidance, and direction!
Phil. 4:11 -- The most difficult part of the process! According to Paul, "Contentment" must be "learned". Pray that you will accept God's will wherever you find yourself (ie. married, single).
Psa. 46:10 -- Rest in the "fortress" that is God. Pray that you won't be anxious. Allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life, as you work to please God. Let Go and Let God (but never at the expense of your Christian responsibilities)! In other words, let God work out your problems as you remain working in His will!

    Prayin' for ya!

    In Christ,
    Mike

Well, I just pray that God's will is done. I want to serve Him,so I pray God will send me someone I can love and stand by,help, and be with for the rest of my life.
I know God's will is perfect so if he wants me or anyone else to marry, it will be on His timeing.
that's another thing-don't go ahead of God. Before ya jump into a life long comittment, make sure it's God's will.
I do pray that god would send someone in His time for me, but then again, should I really inflict such torture on a man? I mean, he would be stuck with ME for all his life! That's kind of depressing--For him!
    Oh, well, God knows best...

My wife lost her first husband to cancer and after a while became so lonely that she began to pray and ask God to give her someone to love her or give her peace that she needed to be a widow the rest of her life. She also had the women in her prayer group to pray the same prayer.

I was praying for God's guidance because I was going through a bad divorce due to unfaithfullness of my first wife.

People kept telling me that I was being silly wanting to get into another relationship but I put it in God's hands.

I felt God leading me to put my profile on two Christian sites on the internet. I received different responses. Three weeks into it I received a response from Oklahoma City. I was living in TExas at the time. I am from Oklahoma by birth and most of my family was there so I had been thinking about moving there. I looked at the profile and letter but did not feel like I should respond so I clicked off but I felt a check inside of me and like something prompting me to respond to her letter.

We began corresponding then I went to meet her and we started dating and got engaged and have been married for nearly three years now.

God put us together. He answered her prayer and my prayer so God can do this for anyone if he did it for me.
