Except that I'm not promoting Islam. I am, however, attempting to engage in healthy dialogue regarding the subject. I believe in Christianity and believe that Islam counters many beliefs of Christianity. But I also believe that Christians are making false representations about Islam.

Christ does not require us to spread falsehoods in order for him to be glorified. In fact, doing so detracts from glorifying Him.

In order for me to do so, I will need to post quotes from the Koran, which will support my view that Islam is not intended to promote violence, albeit there are Islamic extremists who use isolated verses for that purpose. People have been doing that with biblical quotes for years, so that should be no surprise to us.

There are also verses from the Koran that support biblical teachings, and those should not be discounted.

Likewise, there are verses in the Koran that counter biblical teachings, and I see no reason why they can't be discussed in context as well.

Needless to say, while I disagree that Islam is evil, I do feel that Islam is misguided as far as our perspective goes. But I fear that going to far as to call it evil would glorify Satan and give him undue credit, something that Satan in no way deserves.

If you will indulge me to post in these regards, I will be able to answer your post.

    So John,
Is Jesus the Only Way to heaven? Is salvation through Jesus the Only way to have one's sins forgiven? Is Christianity the only correct religion? If the answer is yes to any of these questions than all other forms of religion are wrong.

*** I appreciate your kindness and respect in this post but I humbly reject your request. Please understand that this false religion is evil and will always be so until it is taken out of the way by the Lord.

I concur with Brother Murph's Nov 19 post just above this one.

It is theologicly impossible not to connect false religions with Satan. For whoelse is the Father of Lies? Just as one milliliter of strychnine will poison one liter of otherwise pure water, so does one drop of falsehood corrupt otherwise pure religion. And Islam is faaaar from being anywhere close to being a pure religion.

Then I will not be able to support my view that there are many misconceptions that Christians have about Islam. Therefore, you'll have to trust that statements I make are accurate and not misleading

John I will accept the fact that some of us may falsely link all muslims with the extremists, but the discussion must stop at that. As I have stated since satan is the father of islam I don't intend having his book quoted here. I also don't intend to have God compared to the lies of satan, so please don't post alot of pro islam propaganda as it will not be received well. I am not trying to argue I just want you to understand my view.
    Thanks

You assume I'm pro-Islam. I'm not. I'm simply trying to point out misconcpetions we Christians have about it. This is biblically important, because when we foster inaccuracies like that, even about those who are not Christian, we violate Paul's command that forbids us from engaging in the spreading of rumors and gossip.

Johnv is simply talking about looking at the truth of an issue, rather than relying on presumption and speculation. As Christians, this is what we should be doing. It is not "pro-Islam" to present the most accurate picture of Islam possible, it is simply a desire to minimize false witness.

Yes, Islam is one of "Satan's religions", because any religion besides Christianity is false. I believe a Christian should accurately know what other religions teach - having a working knowledge means being prepared. Slapping discussion away because you don't want to be seen as promoting a false religion keeps Christians in the dark about how to deal with their muslim friends and co-workers. Get equipped, don't hide in your closet! [IMG]

Gentlemen I suggest you start a thread on the Bible versions forum to study and compare the koran to the Bible. Is that what you are suggesting? If it is then maybe the moderators of that or another forum might allow it, I don't know. As for me I don't intend to.

    Murphy, you misunderstand the point.

One day my JW friend asked if he could come to my house one evening and discuss theology and our differences. We set a time a week in the future. All I knew about the JW faith is the rumors I had heard at church. What do you think would be a smart thing to do during that week? Would I be more effective in witnessing to him if I discussed specific things directly from the JW faith, or if I rather discussed the rumors I had heard? Which would be more convincing to him?

I'm not necessarily asking you to *endorse* a discussion on Islam, but your reason for *rejecting* a discussion seems like you'd prefer to keep people in ignorance rather than equip them. I don't understand this reason.

    Dear Murph,
In an earlier discussion on a different subject, you said that , people talking about their freedom to do certain things, should be careful that they did not influence weaker brethren- I think that you are right in this case not to allow quotes from any book other than God`s word, as there may be weaker brethren looking through the posts here, who may take the quotes from the Muslim book to heart, and be disastrously influenced by them.

One problem we have here is that Islam does not interpert the Koran with the same rigor we interpert the Bible.
Are these dictums easy to apply? Most of the time yes. There are passages that good men are going to disagree on and that is what makes for a horse race.

Islam on the other hand seems to take an authoratative approach to the matter. However, a given authority (mullah, imman, ayatolloh, et al) interperts/applies the Koran is the way it is to be interperted or applied by the faithful under his control. So, quoting the Koran is of little value. As it is not the book itself that governs the actions, it is the pronouncemments of the various authorities that govern the life of the faithful. In the West, the best example I can give is the Church of Rome. If you really want to know what RC doctrine and dogma is don't rely on Scripture. You have to look at the volumes of offical interpertation published by the Vatican.

Agreed.</font>[/QUOTE]I donĀ“t agree you could get mislead in some of there wrong teaching. I believe christian should KNOW there bible good enough to point out any false teaching the moment they heard it. And believe this is the only thing God expect from us, not that we should know the fine details of a wrong teaching otherwise you could be bussy your whole life trying to learn FALSE religion. What a waste of time!
