Folks, the first thread died some time back, but I think it's worth resurrecting. So to speak.

The title comes from Paul Crouch of TBN fame (or infamy) who accuses those who disagree with him of being "heretic hunters." I will plead guilty and get that out of the way.

The current subject is Robert Tilton (those who lived through his "ministry" will recall the sordid details, the discarded letters for prayer — except the checks, of course.

He is back. Reaching through the TV screen, he says "I lay my hands on your commitment" to someone who has promised to send him $100 a month. Anybody know where that money is going?

"For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." he says. I would rather give my treasure to the Church than to Tilton. Especially since the only visible ministry of Tilton is Tilton.

    Sad, sad. sad.

Tilton is back? He didn't fool me before, i did
    the arithmetic [IMG]

Tilton promised to pray personally for every letter.
He was pulling in 8Million$ a year. If the average
letter contains $5, then that is 1,600,000 letters
a year. That is 4383 letters a day. That is
548 letters an hour (for an 8 hour work day).
That is 9 letters a minute. That is 6.66 seconds
per letter. Well, you can't pray much in 7 seconds.

In about 1971 my mother's aunt, who worked for Oral
Roberts University (ORU) showed me the Prayer Tower.
At the bottom of the Prayer Tower in the basement
people took the money out of the envelopes.
The letters were put in plastic laundery baskets
and taken to the top room of the Prayer Tower.
There they were actually prayed over individually
by ORU students. But they had several students
each hour for 16 hours a day. Oral Roberts
didn't claim to pray over them each individually.

Anyway, i've given tithes of my over 1 Million$ i've earned
in a lifetime carreer to MY LOCAL CHURCH. I've never
dropped a $5 to a TV or Radio evangelist.

Old Bob Tilton is on Los Angeles TV every weekday morning. (we get LA TV here). My opinion? A devout Muslim will fare-better on Judgement Day than people like him. He's nothing but a crook.
He doesn't pray FOR people, he preys ON people.

The Door magazine has a new article on Benny Hinn by Joe Bob Briggs, formerly of drive-in theater review fame. Not reading for the squeamish.

    Pray for him.

Thanks for the article, by the way, rsr.

Just shows how well people know their Bible.

For some reason they must like the Dallas area. Isn't that where Tilton is. Some years ago they interviewed one of Tilton's former buddies and he mentioned on the TV show how they studied the money makers and their strategy.

Here's a new twist. Morris Cerullo is going to have Communion by satellite on Good Friday. He'll even send you a communion cup and wafer, and you can ask that your name be placed on a special altar for prayer.

Hey, that "I will inherit the land" thing sounds like a pretty good deal. And I don't even have to be meek!

I was watching Paula White on TBN tonight and came to the conclusion that she and her ilk are modern Tetzels.

"Anytime you've made an investment in the annointing, you can place a demand on the anointing," she said between finger snapping.

She was preaching on entering the "wealthy place," which, of course she explained not meant only monetary riches, but also healing and peace of mind. Strange that she didn't call it the "safe place" or the "place of contentment with God" if it isn't about money.

"God's looking for somebody to get up and go to the phone." To give $66.12 a month for a year. She's basing it on Isaiah 66:12. Cute, huh?

She is a perfect example of someone who can quote voluminous Scripture, making it sound she's a learned Bible scholar, without your realizing she's jerking Scripture out of context. Read Isaiah 66 and see God was talking about the restoration of Israel. At least that's my understanding.

And a curious comment: You can only go where you've been. Moses was forbidden to enter Canaan not because he disobeyed God (which is what the Scripture says) but because he hadn't been there before; Joshua, who was sent as a spy into the land, was chosen for the job instead. Can anyone spell "isogesis?"

But I need to go to the phone now to make my pledge the the effort, even though neither Benny Hinn nor TBN has submitted to the standards of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability.

And it would be unwise indeed for me to give more to my church, the local soup kitchen, foreign and home missions, the Gideons or my neighbor who's down on his luck than to send the money off to the maw of TBN.

    God forbid.

And while I'm at it, here is a prophesy that Paul Crouch read on the air:

I especially like the last paragraph. It's likely changes will occur in government, some for good, some for bad. Sounds like Nostradamus to me.

I have saved the entire thing so I can get back to it in 2005.

I think I'll call Bobby Tilton and ask him to 'plant a seed' in MY ministry. Should I ask for $1000, $10,000, or?

Apparently so. Nothing would surprise me about him. He's running old shows "predicting" blessings. Maybe he would have found out by now?

This thread started with a post about Robert tilton.
I am not sure that Robert Tilton is taken seriously.
He is never on TBN. I do not know of any TBN regular guest that associates with Tilton.
    Tilton is a lone Ranger.

Anyone wanting to 'plant a seed' in my ministry can do so. [IMG]

BTW, the faith-movement, Bobby Tilton, and all the other hucksters are proof that the experiment called Protestantism has failed. (not that all Protestant churches/individuals are failures-far from it. But the logical result of 'everyone doing what is right in their own eyes' is seen in these folks.) Without oversight from the larger Christian community, abuse/heterodoxy will eventually occur.
