Dear Thankful~While I'm no expert on the headcovers & I don't wear one---yet(if I ever will), from what I've learned so far, I wouldn't think so...just as hairspray wouldn't count.

    Thank you.

    Lone Wolf,

Thanks so much for sharing about your church. It does me good to know that other women are doing this too. What kind do they wear, if you don't mind me asking? Are they bonnets, or scarves, or shalls?

    &lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;

They are Mennonite style headcoverings. See the pic at the link for a view of what woman wears in my church:
    http://www.anabaptists.org/graphics/mystuff/libby.jpg

Some headcoverings are kinda like a black doily and a little smaller than that picture. At the former church that I went to (IFB), there was a girl there attending who wore a kerchief.

Since the glory of the woman is her hair--what I said earlier on about the glory will still stand. How do I feel about other men who see my wife's glory?? Well, the story of Jesus and Mary come to mind--you recall that Mary came in with that spiknard of ointment and began to wipe that ointment onto Jesus' feet with her hair---ooohhhh, don't you see?? She takes her glory and uses it for the glory of Jesus!!! How can she do that with a hat on??

So, ladies and gentlemen are created different. The Bible says that the glory of the woman is her hair. The Bible says that the glory of the man is his strengh--now, I can't get upset if some man sees my wife's glory---and I can't help it if some woman sees my wife's husband's strength!

That's why when women contract cancer and undergo chemo--and her hair falls out--its a big deal to her--she looses her glory and she desires a wig or a hat to cover what ain't there and she won't even go outside the house without that hat----afraid someone will see the departed glory!!

Men contract cancer--and just the opposite happens--he looses his strength! He wants to keep mowin' the grass! He wants to keep walkin' 5 miles a day--fish, and hunt--he'll do his best to keep workin', climbin' the deer stand and stuff like that---as long as his strength will hold out. Then when his strength fails--he has to call some young buck to mow his grass, split his firewood, and he'll take early retirement from the company---then he's confined inside and he can barely eat--he' depressed because his strength is gone.

I had an uncle who was a dairyman--milked those Holstein's and Jersey's. Ohhhhhhh, my brother and I thought he was our daddy--we loved milkin' with 'im!! He contracted Emphysema and took retirement--sold the dairy--and squalled like a little baby cause he couldn't milk anymore or do anything else like "walk from here to there"--
He didn't have strength--and he'd do his best to hid it!!

The woman's glory is her hair--don't cover the glory! You want to wear a hat--go ahead--won't hurt my feelin's. Men want to go without a shirt while he's workin' so folks can see his muscles--go ahead--ain't gonna hurt my feelin's. Thats how I feel. I'll be your friend, though, till the day I die!!

    Your friend,

    Pastor Blackbird,
You have said alot of great things, especially about what happens to men when they lose their glory, very interesting.
But, I have a question for you. You mentioned the woman who wiped Jesus' feet with her hair. Wasn't she a woman of questionable occupation? The way I understand it she would not have had her head covered because of that.

John 12 records it to be the Mary that was sister to Martha and Lazarus--no questionable occupation there--although I did bury one of my saintly church members who was a "Rosie the Riveter" durin' WW2!

Mary here was giving glory to Jesus! She was going from glory to glory--the glory of the risen man in chapter 11 to the glory of the feast in chapter 12!

Quite right HCL, in Bible times, a prostitute was easily recognized because her head was not covered. Headcoverings have only started disappearing in the past hundred years or so. Some Western European Christian groups still widely use headcoverings. As well as the Mennonites here in the states and a couple other Christian groups. The woman's hair is a natural covering, but during times of worship her hair most definitely should be covered. And in my personal opinion, the rest of the week too. But that's me.

    Lone Wolf,
Thanks for sharing that. I have studied the history too of the shedding of the headcovering and I noticed that along with the refusal of women to wear it came her independence from men.

Anyway, which European Christian groups are you referring to? I have never heard of this? Funny, before I understood the Scripture I thought that Amish and Mennonite women wear it because they were in a time trap, that they wanted to stay like yesterday.

So what you guys are sayin' is this: the Mary of John 12 was a "Lady of the Night!!" Yet somehow she makes it in to the feet of Jesus and is at the feet of God in the flesh--and yet 1. She has no conviction of what she does for a livin' 2. She had her head uncovered in the presense of the God she was worshipping--what a time to put a hat on!! 3. Jesus doesn't mention that she should cover that head with something--like a rag, hankerchief, Martha's apron, etc. He just lets her go on--in total ignorance of scripture and in disobedience to the word that says that a woman must have her head covered??

In bible times in Corinth, temple prostituts shaved their heads, which is why Paul mentions i in these verses, thats why it was a shame, becasue then you were associated, or even though of as a prostitute.
Reminds me of covering the head in bible times, Gen 38, where Tamar covered herself(modest dress), and wore a veil and was thought of as a prostitute. Sounds different then Corinith, where shaving the head was a sign of a prostitute. Sounds cultural to me.

    Luke 11:1-2
1Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. 2(It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)

The Mary who wiped Jesus' feet was Mary sister of Martha and Lazarus, noting in scripture says she was a prostitute, saying so adds to and changes scripture. If MAry worshipped at the fet of Jesus, with her hair unveiled, seems Jesus had no problem with it, if it were necessary He would have told her to cover her head. Or would He have allowed her to ignor what she was supose to do in order to be acceptable to Him and God?
    Think not.

Luke 7:37-38, "And behold a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisees house, brought an alibaster box of ointment. And stood at his feet behin him weeping, and began to wash his feet, and annointed them with oil"

Luke 7:39, "Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake with himself, saying, "This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman is this that toucheth him: for she is a sinner."

Luke 7:47, "Wherefore I say unto thee her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much..."

Luke 7:48, "And he said unto her, "Thy sins are forgiven."

She came to Jesus as a sinner, a woman of questionable occupation. And yes He recieved her as He receives any repentant sinner. She did not have to clean herself up to receive forgiveness.

She had to have faith and repentance, and she did. Jesus receives sinners no matter what they are wearing or not wearing.

    John 12:1-7
1 Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead,[1] whom He had raised from the dead. 2There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him. 3Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.
4But one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, who would betray Him, said, 5"Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii[2] and given to the poor?" 6This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it.
7But Jesus said, "Let her alone; she has kept[3] this for the day of My burial. 8For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always."

This is the Mary that was a sister to Martha and Lazarus. Her head could not have been covered by anything if she wiped Jesus's feet with her hair, she was not a prostitute.
The Mary in Luke 7:37, was a prostitute, she also washed Jesus's feet with her tears and hair.
Then there is Mary the mother of Jesus, three very different Marys', but they all loved Jesus.

    Sue,
I am trying very hard not to debate here so I will just say this one thing. It is possible that a woman could have her head covered and wipe Jesus' feet with her hair.

If the woman had very long hair, say floor length and she had a covering on like we see in the children's pictures of Jesus's mother Mary than she very well could have wiped his feet with her head covered with the hair coming out the bottom.

    Thank you HCL.
seems no matter what her past(that had been forgiven) she was still acceptable asd pleaseing to Jesus, even without her head covered. Prephaps she had no problem with authority.

    </font>[/QUOTE]Katie,
Yes, I had been trying to say this all along. That when one gets saved, as this woman in Luke chapter 7 it does not matter at all what we are wearing or not wearing.

When I came to Jesus I was in the habit of wearing men's clothing. I was in the military and the clothing they gave me was camoflaugue outfits that were made for men, not woman; the sizes were men's sizes not women's.

It is to those who are born again that I have been giving the message of headship, the symbol of headship, submission and modest dress to. Not to unsaved people like the woman in Luke 7.

If your going to be in the military, I'm not sure what else you expect, join a mans world, and you get mens clothing.
