My wife and I are on our third day of the Weight Watchers diet plan. Not that we are going extremely strict, but we haev really cut down on the amounts.

We went and weighed today. We are using this as a starting weight, so we didn't weigh first thing in the morning. And I was pleasently surprised!

I had lost 88 pounds on Atkins, but let my wife persuade me to agree to come off of it for the holidays (that was October). Well, we never went back, and we went crazy! I feel like I had gained almost all of it back, but when we weighed, I had lost three pounds from the last time we weighed!

So, I am now at a net loss of 47 pounds :( . But we are getting things rolling.

    Pray for me!

    In Christ,
    Trotter

What a bummer, ain't it, to have to work hard at taking off those SAME pounds you worked so hard to get off to begin with! Been there a time or two myself. Oldest daughter is there now...poor baby. She is like a yo-yo.

Yes, I will most definitely be praying for you. We all need to pray for one another in this ol' battle of the bulge.

Hey Sue~how'd ya do today? Oh I do hope the scales show you some good news in the a.m. Ya know what...I'm considering doing the cabbage soup diet again sooner than I'd planned-maybe in a couple of weeks...maybe I'll even do it once a month from here on out.

Dr. Bob-- If you're like me, yes, my weight goes up when I'm not exercising regularly, but it's 90 percent because I'm choosing to eat way too much calorie-dense food vs. nutrient-dense food. Exercise is nowhere near as effective for weight loss as limiting your caloric intake. But exercise *is* important for weight loss!

    1. You burn calories as you work out.
    2. You raise your metabolism for a good while after exercise.
    3. Building muscles is good. Muscle burns more calories than fat.
    4. The appetite is suppressed for a considerable time after exercise.

It has been said, "Make time for exercise now or make time for illness later." However, even though exercise is indespensible for better health and fitness, remember that what you chose to eat plays a much greater role in weight loss than exercise. For example, even though walking is a wonderful exercise, it only burns up approximately 100 calories per mile for a 150 pound person. In other words, you would have to walk three miles to work off the calories in just one Snickers bar. So, folks should think twice before reaching for that "little snack". --Jed

My little walk took on a whole new meaning this morn as I was thinking over Jed's post: 1 mile=100 calories. So, when I can do 10, that will equal about 1000 calories...or 3 Snickers. :D J/K(I'm off chocolate for awhile.)

Hey Sue~how's the "B" day coming? I know you must be enjoying that skim milk, amen? I didn't lose any this a.m., but then, I didn't gain either, PTL!

    Granny;

I had to go off the diet today. I had no energy and just wanted to sleep all the time. I am adhering strictly to my low carb diet though. The CS diet gave me some side effects that I won't go into here - TMI...

I stayed on the CS diet long enough to lose 5 1/2 pounds and haven't gained any of it back. I will weigh in the morning. I never weigh during the day. I am still very tired, but it should be better by tomorrow.

I had steak (and didn't even eat all of it) and cooked cauliflower for supper with a small glass of skim milk. The only thing that had any carbs was the skim milk (6 carbs).

I will be getting more exercise too, once I start my paper route this Monday.

    WE CAN DO THIS!!!!!

Yes we can!!! See~I told you about the banana day...it really got to me, but I was determined & made it thru. I'm so happy about your weight loss tho'...yes, all that exercise! Mine is just the little bit of walking, as there's really nothing else around here much to do...not like it was when all the children were home!

Well, we're heading up to visit family in PA Saturday morning. The challenge will be to eat wisely on the road (~8hrs) as well as sticking to wise food choices while staying at Mom's. There tends to be more eating out; both at restraunts and other's homes. Another tough part is playing dominos or canasta in the evenings and not picking at the ring bologna and cheese plate that is traditionally part of the experience... and here I am with just 4 more pounds to break 200.

Granny-- Great to hear you're walking! Walking is an excellent exercise and if it is done consistently it provides definite health benefits.

I hope everyone here is getting some regular exercise. It takes some experimentation to find what kind you like or what works in your schedule, but exercise needs to get as easy to fit into your day as brushing your teeth. Do you sit and argue with yourself about whether you have time to brush your teeth or not? Exercising needs to be like that. It's basic maintenance for owners of human bodies. View it like that, and value it like that, and you'll make room for it.

Also the good news is that as you gradually increase your physical activity it will become easier and you will feel better. Choose to have a daily exercise plan, even if it is just walking around the neighborhood. If fork lifting and remote-control button pushing describes your exercise plan, it's time to get up off the couch and start moving! [IMG] --Jed

Speaking of excercise, did you know that laughing at a joke burns on average 3 calories. The way I figure it a trip through the messages over on the Clean Humor forum can vaporize 2577 calories... and that's not even taking into account mouse clicking and wheel scrolling! [IMG]

Jeff-- Hope you have a good/safe trip this weekend! Making healthy food choices on the road can definitely be a challenge! Sometimes we need something quick from a fast food place (you know...fast food which can lead to fast calories and to fast pounds). We try to find a Wendy's. From the 99 cent menu, we get two side salads, one chili, a baked potato, and water to drink. We pour half the chili on each salad for two budget taco salads and we split the baked potato. (That totals up to only two dollars a piece! [IMG] ) Then we both grab something from our fruit bowl to top off the meal. While this may not be perfect, it's a lot better than the fat-saturated double-bacon cheeseburger, artery-clogging french fries, and empty-calorie soda pop. --Jed

I love Wendy's caesar side salads for .99, I used to get a baked potaot to go with it, but I rarely eat potatoes now.

I had the Brisbane salad at Outback with grilled shrimp tonight. I also had the coconut shrimp and 1 pc of the "brown" bread. Washed it all down with a couple of slices of watermelon.

Cheryl and I are going to start exercising together today. She does the reps and I count.

As of this morning I had lost 6 1/2 pounds. It's not much, but it's a start!

Fixing ham, baked potatoes, and broccoli for dinner tomorrow. "I" will be eating cauliflower potatoes instead of baked...

Hey, all. Since I haven't been able to get my pic together to be displayed under my screen name, I posted one of me and my family in the member photo album.

You're on the left? Oh, my. I'd have guessed it the other way around, but it's your call . . .

(might want to check the pix again my friend!)

DonnA-- I allow myself baked potatoes on the road, where choices can be limited. I figure that with the skin, I'm getting some nutrients from this God-made, natural food vs. man-made, processed foods with refined carbs. I'm striving to eat more food that comes from the land and less food that comes from a lab. Once in a while at home I cube up a refrigerated, already baked, small potato and lightly brown it with lots of pre-microwaved onion and green pepper to make O'Brien spuds. Good stuff! I hope one day to visit Wendy's just so I can try those ideas! Another month begins and I'm excited...how about y'all? I lost a total of 14 pounds, 10 of which were some I'd already lost before & came on suddenly, like overnite.

I'm aiming for another 5 during August. Haven't made my 10 miles yet, but will work on that & if the weather would break from this heat, I'd try harder. I have to get out there before daylight & near sundown & I have a hard time seeing.

Well, I pray all of you who are seriously trying to lose will reach your goal. [IMG]
