Which form of Christianity? Baptist? Presbyterian? Methodist? Lutheran? Seventh Day Adventist? Do you favor the government making infant baptism illegal? Or pouring illegal? Or failure to attend church punishable by imprisonment? Or making the practice of non-Christian religions illegal? The early colonists did just that. No thanks. When the government starts enforcing religious beliefs, even when those religious beliefs coincide with my own, they have taken the right for me to worship out of my hands, and into theirs.

"I don't think Munster is a good parallel for the spread of the gospel by peaceful means"
    ''
Münster was ofcourse an abberation, but the only way the USA is going to become an all-Christian nation without massive direct Divine intervention is by force. The notion of the baptists (basically the inventors of the notion of seperation between church and state) wanting to pursue this course , is troubling.

:D Since Jesus said His kingdom is not of this world, I don't see any scriptural support for Jesus supporting or eschewing any type of governmental theocracy, or any other type of governmental system, for that matter.

However, if it really were that simple, we wouldn't have numerous denominations, even numerous Baptist denominations. Heck, we can't even agree on whether the commandment of keeping the Sabbath is in force. What makes you think we can agree on anything else??

He'll probably convert to Islam about the time that I become that you become the King of England. ;)
    Ain't gonna happen, friend.

GW has to be the president to all of America, not just a segment. After Sept 11th, there was a fear of reprisal from the Muslim community and this is why he started holding the Ramadan celebrations there, to help qualm the fears. Most Muslims I know and have worked with don't follow the hardlined clerics, and believe in peaceful means of solving problems. I've met a few who do, but most refuse to follow that line of thinking, just as many IFB Christians refuse to follow the hardline cultic mindsets of people like Jack Hyles, Bob Gray (Texas) and Jim Vineyard.
Would you rather we go back to internment camps for all those who are Muslim like the Japanese were imprisoned in WWII?

JOHNV said: "Since Jesus said His kingdom is not of this world, I don't see any scriptural support for Jesus supporting or eschewing any type of governmental theocracy, or any other type of governmental system, for that matter."

Here's something of an answer: "For unto us a child is born...Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth for ever." Isaiah 9:6a and 7a

In the Lord's eternal kingdom, when heaven and earth have been redone, ALL will be of one mind, one heart, in worship - deed - and song, forever. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

No, I think that Muslims should celebrate Muslim holidays, and Christians should celebrate Christian holidays.

Who said anything about kicking people out? Why would any Christian have a problem with people becoming Christians? I said I would like for everyone to become a Christian and therefore have a 100% Christian country. The more the merrier. I view the advancement of Islam as a bad thing. Apparently, you and Johnv view it as a good thing.

In a sense, JohnV seems like the ultimate conservative, in that he nearly always defends the status quo.

I would favor 100% religious liberty, with each person completely free to worship or not worship as they individually and privately please, as opposed to 100% Christian, where the government dictates religious beliefs.

Where in this thread did anyone advocate the government dictating religious beliefs? I've only read the wish, which should be every Christian's wish, that all people come to Jesus in repentance and faith. I am very surprised you would have a problem with that.

Now Ken, you know very well that if everyone in the US, accepted Christ as Savior, we wouldn't believe them anyway. Even if they were all Baptist, we wouldn't believe them. It's in our nature to be skeptical. Even on this board, there are quite a few people who don't believe GW Bush is a Christian, even though he is.

I guarantee that if everyone on the PLANET became a Christian, it wouldn't be good enough for a great many people. They'd just look for some other vice to point fingers at.

The 100% Christian comment is loaded from the get go. It's likely that most people who say "I wish 100% of the people were Christian" really mean "I wish 100% of the people where Christians who believe exacely what I believe".

It's an easy decision for Bush. Having a Muslim cleric do the invocation might sway some Muslims and liberals to vote for him.

And he knows that conservative Christians will put up with any amount of abuse.

    Why wouldn't he do this?

    Not me. [IMG]

What disgusts me is how it was covered up by the media. Guess it was shushed up for a reason...like hopefully not many conservative Christians will find out about it. Last election 4.5 million Conservative Christians stayed home.

I can easily see where impressions can become cockeyed in these threads. Sometimes people answer questions which weren't asked and don't answer questions which are, etc. I was commenting on JohnV's statement that he would leave this country if it ever became a "Christian Only Club" and I was attempting to convey my thought that I wish that everyone in this country was a Christian and as a silly result JohnV would have to leave. I don't really want JohnV to leave nor anyone else, my goal is for everyone to stay and everyone to be a Christian.
