    Yeah.

I really do hate to crack wise about it.

I've been in Western Montana for a little over a week, house-sitting. It's amazing how I still hear about this crisis, 2600 miles away from home, where it seems to be centered.

Like I said, besides the awful crimes committed, the fact that they were not only covered up, and ignored is really disheartening. And the "look what baptists have done" cries really sicken me.

    I blame the system.

A youth leader at a local Baptist Church was givin' the boot after have sex with a 14 year old about 2 years ago.

    Corrupt leadership happens everwhere.

Why don't we ever talk about stories of the good that is being done? The Catholic hospitals offering free or very low cost help for the poor? The food pantries? The homeless shelters? Homes for ophans and widows?

You miss my point. He should have been booted. Good for the people who did it. What I'm talking about is the cover-up, the movement of offendors to other parishes. That's the reason the numbers are high, because they were allowed to continue.

And how about the story of Saul, who thought his good works would outdo his disobediance........

1 Samuel 15; 22 & 23"And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry...."

I don't think God in heaven gives a hoot about the church's good works, he wants his gospel preached. People who set up soup kitchens are not given a free pass to sodomize children.

Please keep this as apples with apples. So that means -- Not just "a preacher" but rather 4450 preachers!

Since so much work seems to be going into the fallacy of equivocating - lets keep the group honest.

Try "showing" that you actually have 4450 pastors from brand-x denomination and 11000 abuses over a 54 year period of time.

    Let the hunt begin!

    In Christ,

Indeed - one sin seems to drag with it a host of others.

But is it really "coincidence" that we have this level of "violation" in a system that insists on celebacy? If you "add" the heterosexual sins and abuses of other priests as well - what is the "total count"?

Recall that a ploy often tried among RC defenders is to contrast the criminal pedophilia record of the RCC in America vs the sexual crimes of all flavors among pastors of some specific non-RC group. The "fallacy of equivocation" as it is classically known.

    In Christ,

The more they dig, the more they find.
Celibacy was never God's intended will for any group of men. When you go against the written Word of God what should one expect? The consequences of sin accumlated over centuries are now coming to light. There is a consequence for sin--both in this world, and in the world to come.

It's extremely doubtful one would find that many...simply because no one denomination is as LARGE as the RCC...perhaps if we went by something more realistic, such as percentages?

I'm with you, as Sgt Joe Friday would say, "Just the facts madam"

Here in Central New York there was a local Baptist preacher who was arrested and convicted of sexual misconduct of children. After his arrest, which headline the local news, a family or two from his previous church (about 80 miles away) came forth and additional charges were filed. So, I guess it just not the RC who move from parish to parish to "leave behind a problem" BTW he had seven children of his own.
I suppose with Baptists it is a bit different for stats since there is no denomation for IFB, or is it.

BTW, I personally knew this pastor, in fact I attended his church for a while, did not join, but for other reasons.

Ok - so that's "one". How long before we get to 4400 clergy and 11000 abuses for "all of the rest of Christianity combined" ?

I can understand the reasoning for desiring some pastors in God's family being single- Paul himself did say its better to remain single. However I still believe a married pastor can bring into the Church experience an unmarried pastor can't.

If someone desires to remain single, and wants to be a pastor, and has that gift, I say, all the more power to them!
