Abortion and Pres. Reagan

    In another topic I mentioned a essay written by Pres. Reagan regarding abortion. I thought I would share some quotes from this essay he wrote in 1983.

    "The real question today is not when human life begins, but, what is the value of human life? The abortionists who reassembles the arms and legs of a tiny baby to make sure all its parts have been torn from it's mother's body can hardly doubt whether it is a human being. The real question for him (George Will regarding a baby who had 6 operations 9 weeks prior to it's birth) and for all of us is whether that tiny human life has a God-given right to be protected by the law- the same right we have."

    "Regretably, we live at a time when some persons do not value all human life. They want to pick and choose which individuals have value. Some have said that only those individuals with 'consciousness of self' are human beings. One such writer has followed this deadly logic and concluded that 'shocking as it may seem, a newly born infant is not a human being.'"

    "Obviously, some influintial people want to deny that every human life has intrinsic, sacred worth. They insist that a member of the human race must have certain qualities before they accord him or her status as a 'human being.'"

    "The cultural environment for a human holocaust is present whenever any society can be misled into defining individuals as less than human and therefore devoid of value and respect."

    "I have often said we need to join in prayer to bring protection to the unborn. Prayer and action are needed to uphold the sanctity of human life. I believe it will not be possible to accomplish our work, the work of saving lives, 'without being a soul of prayer.'"

    "Abraham Lincoln recognized that we could not survive as a free land when some men could decided that others were not fit to be free and therefore be slaves. Likewise, we cannot survive as a free nation when some men decide that others are not fit to live and should be abandoned to abortion or infanticide."

    These are just some of the valuable staements Pres. Reagan says about this issue. If you want to read the whole essay, it is called "Abortion and the Conscience of the Nation"

    I usually stay out of abortion topics, but I ventured in because of President Reagan's name...he was one of my favorites.

    Thank you for posting these quotes, how poinant that the words he spoke 20 years ago are still so appropriate today.

    Long live former President Ronald Reagan!!

    Long live President George W. Bush!

    OOOOHHHHH, how we need to beg on our knees for the Lord Jesus Christ to keep sending us these kind of God fearin', soul lovin' Presidents!!

    I don't know about you guys--but I'll stand up and take a bullet for these kind of Presidents any time of the day!!

    Amen and Amen I pray for our president often because kinda like Jesus he's got the whole world in his hands and I would not want to have the decisions to make that he does! Thank you Lord for sending one of your servants to serve us and to get on his knees and pray for your guidance daily!

    President Reagan invigorated the pro-life movement with words and encouragements like those posted above. I don't think he did all he might have, but at the same time he was a very positive pro-life influence. As pro-lifers we owe President reagan a debt of gratitude for his support.

    GW Bush has done and said practically nothing. Anyone who voted for him for the pro-life cause should be sadly disappointed that he cheated them out of their vote.

    How many pro-lifers will allow him to get away with his betrayal of the unborn by voting for him again?

    I believe one of our fellow BB members posted a discussion about Pres. Bush sponsoring a bill that would make it a double murder if someone kills a pregnant woman. This can be ground work. The key factor to him being able to do anything is for two supreme court judges retiring. Until he is able to appoint new judges he is very limited by what he can do. Until then all he can really do is speak out against it just like we are. I am confident that before the end of his second term the new judges will be in place. :D

    First of all, Bush has clearly stated that the pro-life issue would not be a deciding factor in his judgeship appointments. I see no reason to expect anything positive there.

    Second, I would love to hear him speak out, as you say. But he has been largely silent.

    If you fall for the "he'll do want you want if you elect him a SECOND time" trick, I'd like to show you a great deal on some used cars.

    I am very Pro-life... but what I want to know is what great thing did Reagan do for Pro_life. The post powerful man in the world and was Roe v Wade changes? Modified? sure things were even worse with Clinton, but don't kid yourself, Reagan didn't do any more for us than did either of the Bushes. I like Reagan but let's stop worshipping him.

    I too am very pro-life. My vote is almost always for the pro-life candidate. A recent vote for a pro-choice Republican NY senate candidate - trying to keep a liberal pro-abortion candidate (Hillary Clinton) from being elected - did not work - she got elected. I certainly am considering never voting again for anyone who is not a pro-life candidate.

    I am convinced that even if our President appoints pro-life candidates to the Supreme Court - and if they are confirmed - and if Roe v. Wade is overturned - it will do little to stop abortion in the USA. Back alley butchers will still kill the unborn children of those willing to pay.

    What will stop abortion? Believers in Jesus Christ praying. Believers in Jesus Christ willing to tell the lost about Jesus Christ. Only a heart changed by the gospel of salvation - by grace through faith - will truly see abortion as murder, and only that changed heart will seek alternatives to the sickening, deadly, murderous practice of abortion.

    Reagan was also my favorite president. By the time he left office - I could take pride in the fact that I am an American - a feeling I was short on when Jimmy Carter was president.

    Now it has happened all over again - after 8 years of Clinton - with George W., I again take pride in being an American.

    Let us remember to pray for our president.

    'Dutch' is my favorite President, but I don't think I could pray this for him now. I'd pray, "Lord, heal him, please, or take him home."

    I take pride in being an American, but it is IN SPITE OF both Clinton and Bush.

    While by all appearances Bush is personally more upright than Clinton, politically he's more liberal than Clinton by far. I am proud to be an American but rather ashamed to be a Republican.
