What's interesting is when someone claims to be Baptist, but provides a link to Mormon literature, and then publicly espouses Ellen White and Adventist teachings.

To say the least, I'm confused. If you're not really Baptist, why would you pass yourself off as one?

MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND IN THE TIME OF TROUBLE FOR THIS WORLD I HOPE THAT WE ALL BE READY!!!!
I HAVE NEVER READ THE BOOK OF MORMAN BROTHER
I COULDN'T TELL YOU WHAT IT SAYS.I couldn't tell you what it looks like and far as my site i exchange banners and different things of that nature if i have done anything that wasn't satisfy God i ask him to forgive me and that's the only man i want to please. The issue of Ellen G.White lots of her teaching is from the book of revalation as far as her being in a cult or what ever i know anything about that i never heard that before. As i said before it's ok i've asked God to humble me WHEN MY RELIGION IS BEING QUESTIONED or criticizms. so what ever you see fit to do as far as me posting here is up to you i'm still going to stand firm rather it's here or somewhere else. as i say agin i'm not angry at anyone here i stress my opion as you stress yours yes i was raised in a baptist church here in my home town and i will remain a baptist no one can change that.As you raise the question to me how can i call my self a christian how can anyone that judges others call them selves christians it dosen't bother me what people say they can dispute me but THEY CAN'T DISPUTE THE WORD OF GOD that's stated in
    Acts 2:17-21
i'm not going to debate with anyone over what God has given to me that's the problem with so many people today as we sit here debating all the knowledge that God has given us to share his word needs to be preached to his people not debating about it on a message board and that is my plan.

    Blessings to you all

Not to steal somebodies moniker, but Im trying to understand something. Isn't anybody that professes to be Baptist truly Baptist? Or must they subscribe to certain minimal beliefs? Is there a set of these minimal beliefs paraphrased somewhere that all who call themselves Baptist must adhere to. Please don't say the Bible, As this whole thread is evidence of the simple yet errant ways people can individually misinterpret scripture. And why would you not allow someone who is just in practice, doing what Luther and Calvin et al did (with obvious distinctions) the title Baptist. Afterall she did say, "the God-honest truth" [IMG]

Isn't individual interpretation welcome in the Baptist Church?
By the way where is the Baptist Church?

StephenIII, I see you're RC. My son in law calls himself RC but hasn't attended mass but once in maybe 12- 15 years. He doesn't believe Mary remained a virgin, etc. Would YOU consider him a RC? The same goes for Baptists. If a person doesn't hold to our beliefs... then they are NOT a Baptist.

That's pretty basic but you get the idea.

Aside from Griffin's ranting and posturing above -- perhaps a 'substantive' comment is in order.

Do you really think that the book of Revelation is "John eating Pizza"??

Or "having a few nice thoughts as he dozes off"??

I find it hard to believe that a Christian response would address the Gift of the Holy Spirit in such a trivializing trite fashion.

The "real" problem with those who post in that fashion is that they deny the truth of 1Cor 12 regarding "Spiritual Gifts" as well as the Apostolic command of 1Cor 14:1.

Having gone that far - it is nothing for them to trivialize and mock certain Spiritual Gifts.

Griffin, what you "Should" have done is argued on the basis of "God's Word" rather than ranting and mocking alone (as if that is somehow a compelling form of intelligent dialoge).

But "to each his own" I guess.

    In Christ,

    Bob

That Pizza comment caught me off guard. Aside from that one comment - nothing Dr Griffin said was out of line. My post above is too harsh.

    I apologize.

Diane, Thanks for the outline of Baptist beliefs!

    Now you said:
Actually, I would still consider him a Catholic, albeit one who is practicing Protestant-like behaviors. That is in picking and choosing what he likes and disregarding other teachings of the faith he purportedly adheres to. Or perhaps modifying those beleifs, Isn't that the genesis of the Reformation?

I say "Protestant-like" not so much in a derogatory manner, but in the sense that he purportedly allows his personal interpretation to supercede the teaching of the Church.

Along those lines I would ask you with all humility and sincerety: Do you believe the outline of Baptist beleifs you posted,- because it was provided as a guide, or did you come to the identical conclusion in each catagory by reading scripture yourself. And as a Baptist if you derive something else from scripture, who makes the determination that you're really not Baptist? Is there an appeal process?

What if the subject matter is of little consequence? Is there a set of essential beliefs, as you titled these listed as: "basic beliefs"

    Thanks for the kind response,

    Stephen

Excuse me for asking, but who was it who asked the following:

Let' see... yup, it was you. You asked. You opened the discussion. So... whose "fault" is it that we all "sit here debating all the knowledge that God has given us to share his word needs to be preached to his people not debating about it on a message board and that is my plan," whatever that run-on sentence means?

    Angela Weir:

Firstly, Ellen G. White, the 'prophetess' of the SDA Church wrote so many books that only ONE other person in US history out did her. (some man, don't remember right now).

Secondly, if you have READ any of her books you would know that she DID NOT claim to BE a prophet, but that she was merely a messenger, and exibited a GREAT level of humility, and had a servant attitude.

Thirdly, although she only had a third grade education, she wrote quite eloquently, using proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Before you go about trying to promote yourself, perhaps you should ask God why He hasn't given you the gift of speaking ENGLISH along with your prophetic gift.

I am not trying to be mean, so please don't take it personally. BUT, if you want to be taken seriously, you need to at least learn to write in complete sentences, and some semblance of continuity.

Even your greeting on your website is messed up! Don't you have spell check?

    God Bless,
    Kelly

Maybe you should take a look at Ellen White before you put any stock in what she says.

I did some checking on Ellen G. White, and found that she had a head injury to a part of the brain that causes visual and auditory hallucinations. So there are questions about her visions to begin with.
She was a 7th day adventist, she banned the use of medicines, calling them a curse, she said using a doctor was a dishonor to God, she said you should not use dairy products and eggs, ministers and family not allowed to eat meat, vinegar in dressings,(I would gues pickles too?) saying=not only are the bodies affected, but the morals, the religious life, are affected."--Letter 9, 1887, Manuscript Releases vol. 2, p. 143-144. =
No mustard, pickles, cinnamon, and spices?? No sports and games, (they open the door to a flood of temptation)????
===All true followers of Jesus will have sacrifices to make. God will prove them and test the genuineness of their faith. I have been shown that the true followers of Jesus will discard picnics, donations, shows, and other gatherings for pleasure=====
===="The true Christian will not desire to enter any place of amusement or engage in any diversion upon which he cannot ask the blessing of God. He will not be found at the theater, the billiard hall, or the bowling saloon." (Messages to Young People, p. 398)==== No bowling, no pool??

Women are to wear pants under thier dresses to as not expose their legs.
====="They do not blush to witness the exposure of the almost naked limbs. But the limbs thoroughly dressed with warm pants shock their modesty. Such opposition to the pants, which are positively modest, and which protect the limbs from exposure and chilliness, should be supported by sensible reason." (Health Reformer, May 1, 1872) ======

=====I was shown that Sabbathkeeping Adventists should not engage in life insurance. This is a commerce with the world which God does not approve. Those who engage in this enterprise are uniting with the world, while God calls His people to come out from among them and to be separate. ... 'For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory.' Here is the only life insurance which heaven sanctions." (Testimonies Vol. 1, p. 549)

    Can't pray while stnding
===I have received letters questioning me in regard to the proper attitude to be taken by a person offering prayer to the Sovereign of the universe. Where have our brethren obtained the idea that they should stand upon their feet when praying to God? One who has been educated for about five years in Battle Creek was asked to lead in prayer before Sister White should speak to the people. But as I beheld him standing upright upon his feet while his lips were about to open in prayer to God, my soul was stirred within me to give him an open rebuke. Calling him by name, I said, "Get down upon your knees." This is the proper position always. (Selected Messages, Vol. 2, p. 311)====

The sexual union of man and beast are the cause of the flood.
====But if there was one sin above another which called for the destruction of the race by the flood, it was the base crime of amalgamation of man and beast which defaced the image of God, and caused confusion everywhere. Spiritual Gifts, Vol. 3, p. 64
Every species of animal which God had created were preserved in the ark. The confused species which God did not create, which were the result of amalgamation, were destroyed by the flood. Since the flood there has been amalgamation of man and beast, as may be seen in the almost endless varieties of species of animals, and in certain races of men. Spiritual Gifts, Vol. 3, p. 75 ====
What races of men are a result of man and animal joining in reproduction? http://www.ellenwhite.org/critica.htm

Failed porphecies= If her prophecies and visions were from God not one would have faild, and not one would contrary to scripture, but everythig she said is different from God's word. Examine what she said agains t scripture.
    http://www.ellenwhite.org/criticd.htm

Of your living by Ellen G. White then your 'religion'( which isn't biblical christianity) should be questioned, we are warned in God's word about fales teachers and prophets.
You'll notice Ellen has plenty of failed propchecies, according to scripture it only takes one failed prophecy to be a false prophet, ans God took that so serious He told the people to stone them to stop their false teachings from infilterating into the beleifs of His peoeple.

As much fun as it might be to sidetrack onto someone who died almost a hundred years ago - what about the subject of visions and the Spiritual Gift of Prophecy - as we see it in 1Cor 12?

What about Prophecy as we see it in 1Cor 14:1?

What about following the instruction of Paul in that text?

    VIII. The Lord's Day
The first day of the week is the Lord's Day. …It commemorates the resurrection of Christ from the dead and should be employed in exercises of worship and spiritual devotion.

I am "wondering" if the Seventh-day Baptist see that and then conclude "well then I guess we are not really Baptist after all!".

Woman of God mentioned Ellen G. White several times and apparently follows her teachings, so it has a lot to do with tis subject if what she says in this topic is based on Ellen G. White's false prophecies and visions.

My point is that - there are two subject here.

    Part I.
    One is - do you believe 1Cor 12, and 1Cor 14:1.

    Part II.
Another one is "IF You DO" accept that Spiritual Gifts "remain" and that prophecy is "valid" THEN on what basis do you judge a prophet to be a true vs false prophet? And then - by that measure is Ellen White a true or False prophet.

HOWEVER - the problem with Jumping ahead to part II before getting through the first part - is that EVEN those who accept a given prophet - for example Ellen White - will readily admit that the TEST of a prophet is the Doctrine that they claim God is supporting in His direct messages. God is all-knowing and never is in error. So if they claim that God is supporting a doctrine that is in error (sola scriptura being the standard for defining error Acts 17:11) - THEN that is a false prophet.

So "by definition" SDAs must insist that non-SDAs who are serious about their Bible doctrines - view Ellen White as a false prophet. The ONLY common ground basis for discussion then - is Part I. If this were a case of SDAs talking to "Themselves" about Ellen White (having already concluded that the Doctrines are correct and in harmony with the doctrines defined sola scriptura) THEN they could get into the esoteric speculations so popular on the thread so far.

But I will admit that judging from the posts so far - they seem to be a bit 'confused' on that point.

    In Christ,

    Bob
