Not surprising. The RCC doesn't care about man's salvation, but about ruling the world, and what better way to do it than to declare every religion equal and try to get Mary worship into all of them? At the same time, the 'pope' is buddying up to the Muslims in an attempt to get the dome of the Rock and rebuild the temple on that spot so he can fulfill 2 Th 2:4

I went to a catholic college. They told us that God's covenant with the Jews was still in effect from the old testament, thus they were exempt and we should not try to convert them.

I'll take yet another beating for this, but...

I don't see how any Bible reading Christian can offer any support at all to the RCC. Very sad. How many Biblical commands, Old and New Testament, can be compromised, yet justified ?

I joined the catholic church with great faith in Christ, I have left it with my faith seriously weakened. They gave me many doubts in my faith. This is my own fault I guess.

Well, I would love to welcome you here. You might see some in-fighting here, but I really believe most of us here are Biblically sound, and want only God's will for our lives. You may see some Catholic posters that come here and ridicule our beliefs, even some that still erroneously claim that their's is the only true church of Christ.

Keep your chin up, I hope we can help you strenghten your faith in Christ, and also in his word. We aren't perfect, but our savior is.

Peaches, I don't believe it was your fault. It happens with Baptists, too. I served under a man who was extremely manipulative, but I had put "blinders" on, and refused to see it--until he started trying to drive a wedge between me and my wife. Then I skedaddled as fast as I could. I went through a long period of recovering from that, and questioning my own actions. Fact of the matter was, God used the situation to show me some of my weak areas, and in the end made me even stronger.

I know He's working the same thing for you.

There is no way I can or would even try to defend such a statement. What in the WORLD are these people thinking?

Hi Brother Ed, Hope you are well!

I appreciate your honesty brother Ed. We all know that Jesus said NO MAN will get to the father except through him.

Brother Ed, my question is this. If this new teaching is adopted by the CC as a whole, meaning the Pope ratifies it or however that works (excuse my lack of knowledge on the subject) will you then leave the church? Do you think others will leave the CC over this?

Just for clarification, this is not CC teaching yet, is it? or is it?

What a sad thing to pick a group of people and decide not to share the gospel with them, how odd indeed.

    In Love and Truth,
    Brian

I went and looked at the actual document, and it's sort of odd (like much ecumenical writing, in my opinion).

The document actually does promote the evangelization of Jews as individuals, as shown by the following quote:

However, it seems to oppose any attempt to convert all Jews as a group, or as a "people." (Not that that's very likely to happen anyway -- but what is the Jewish "people
other than the collective of Jewish "individuals"?).

So, in short, it seems like ecumenical double-think to me. Sort of like saying "we want to convert each of you, but not all of you."

    This is false.

Unfortunately, simply because you learn something in an institution that is formally "Catholic" does not mean that you are receiving the Catholic Faith from its professors.

Paul makes it clear in the Epistle to the Romans that Jews are to be converted, for Christ is the end (telos) of the law!

The "People of God" is now the Church, and the unbelieving Jews are like branches that have been broken off of the cultivated olive tree. Believing Gentiles have been grafted in their place. Paul makes this expressly clear in Romans 11.

    God bless,

    Carson

    Hey Carson!!!

Carson, Why do you think your Catholic brothers, quite a few of them it sounds, are saying something different then Paul said?

Well, if the report is accurate, I am not really liking that. I would love to read the actual document.

Somebody asked somebody if someone would leave the Church over that.

    (laughing)

Yeah... and reject my conscious and ignore what I have learned over the last 5 years to swallow up a shallow "piece of truth" Christianity.

    Never.

If I ever left the Catholic Church, I would do what Augustine said he would do.

    Seek and ye shall find.

Not just any Catholic brothers, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Aren't they supposed to be part of the Majesterium?

    OH OH OH

    SILLY ME!!!!

To think that I would believe that the Boston Globe would actually act in a FAIR and UNBIASED way towards the Church.

Let's see -- Boston. Isn't that part of the STATE which constantly sends that drunken lecherous abortion loving bum by the name of Kennedy to the Senate? ;)

Could it be......could it be that the Boston Globe has an AGENDA?????

Make the Church LOOK BAD???

Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh. No more than DHK, Dualhunter, or James White. :D :D

As for leaving the Church, what did Christians do when the entire Church was run and overseen by Arian heretic bishops? Did they leave and go somewhere else, or did they pray and stick it out till the "times of refreshing" came?

I think this story is designed to placate all the God hating Jews in the Boston area, as well as the numerous ones who no doubt work on the paper itself.

And I'm sorry if that language offends some of my Catholic brothers and sisters here, but it is GOOD BIBLICAL LANGUAGE from Romans chapter 1: verse 30.

Hate Jesus Christ? You hate God. It's real simple.

I reject this whole newspaper article as biased and not worthy of putting under my puppy. This kind of "reporting" smacks of the "truth" that the Romans told of first century Christians -- "they are cannibals".

    Yeah, right!

Time to put on the nice white jacket and go to the nice white padded room with the nice doctor. Seriously though did you check out the other link?

    http://www.nccbuscc.org/comm/archives/2002/02-154.htm

The site seems to be an official website for the US Conference of Catholic Bishops and their article agrees with what the Boston Globe says. Your slander is not called for.

I appreciate you finding this for me.

As I assumed, it goes much deeper than the simple statement of the thread.

HOWEVER, I have read the whole thing and am intitualy concerned about the implications of what I am reading, and how that plays an obvious affect on the points that you would hold and that Carson brought up.

To me, it seems that the Jews would be THE people to evangelize. Why:

They are the choosen people of God, and the only difference between Christians and Jews is that we believe the Messiah has come and they don't. Shouldn't we, then, WANT to say, "Hey! The Messiah is here! Come to Him!?" I would think so. Aren't we robbing them of something good by NOT telling them that "their" Messiah has come?

I am concerned about this, and will be looking into it more.

    Thanks,

    Justin
