Michael Moore booed by Hollywood elite

It's great to find agreement with a couple of those whom I disagree with a lot:

Candide, it was great to hear someone get a standing ovation for someone saying something positive. I've got to say that it shows some class by Brody and the Hollywood crowd that his comment got a standing ovation. A plug for Bush or the war it ain't, but I'm happy to see them at least supporting the troops.

For the record, I can respect those who are opposed to the war because they are pacifists or they do not believe Bush made his case to the American people, but I cannot respect those who are dishonest in their accusations or who deliberately undermine the war effort by giving hope to the Iraqi regime by disruptive protests – human lives are at stake.

If you'll pardon me a Limbaugh-ite compliment--dittos! I too have no problem with honest war protest and I think our country would be in a sad state if there weren't at least an element that stood against war. That is not to say that the "pro-war" types such as myself are really for war, but it is good that there are those who will stand up and say, "Whoa!" when we go to war. Your distinction is right on the mark. Though I disagree with the Catholic Church on this war, Western Civilization would be in a sad state without their concept of and serious thinking about just war.

Didn't watch the awards. Doesn't interest me in the least.

I have a copy of the book "Stupid White Men".

In the opening chapter he shows what he deems evidence of how President Bush was elected falsley.

What concerns me is his claim that Black people who had the same surname as somebody who had a Criminal Conviction were prevented from voting. If this was not true, surley he would be sued for making a false accusation, yet I have heard that this went on in other sources also.

People like to line up Michael Moore for his left wing attitude, yet not all he does is bad. People on this board often complain of jobs being moved overseas fom America. As far as I am aware, Michael Moore's show the auwful truth seems to be the only forum where these companies are challenged.

Also it was Michael Moore that went to the German Car Manufacturers and exposed how they profited from Jewish prision camp labour in their factories. Stories like this need to be told.

The only one’s who seem to believe him are those from outside the United States who probably don’t completely understand the Electoral College system of U.S. presidential elections. I’ve heard much of his “evidence” and it’s nonsense.

It is my understanding that there were some problems with the voting status of a limited number of black persons in Florida related to alleged criminal convictions. But I have not seen any evidence that black persons were targeted (I’m sure there were some white and Latino persons who had the same problems) or that it was intentional.

As far as being sued, Michael Moore would want nothing more than to be sued – it would lend a twisted kind of credibility to his false accusations. (He would alleged that Bush is trying to cover up the truth.) Almost every American knows that Michael Moore is full of hot air.

Certainly. That’s the tragedy of the situation… He has destroyed his credibility over the last few years with false allegations and endless hyping of himself. I saw a bit of him on Oprah the other day talking about how the U.S. has developed a “climate of fear” because of the way the U.S. media covers stories – only the most sensational stories are covered. He made some excellent points. But then he started into tirade about people who own guns and made a bunch of false assumptions about the motivation to purchase firearms.

Yes, he challenges companies, but he rarely does anything effective. He has stated that he does not care for capitalism very much – he wants 100% employment and government guarantees for healthcare, housing, employment, etc. He also doesn’t seem to recognize the realities and benefits of a world economy and the benefits of free trade.

Yup. But it is also painfully obvious that Moore does not even pretend to be fair with the treatment of his subjects. That taints everything that he says and presents. Since he is dishonest with the small and trivial things, how can we expect him to be truthful about big issues?

Who wasn't allowed to vote???

I would have to see definite proof of this from a reputable source. Just because Michael Moore wrote it in his book does not make it so!

Think about it. If black people were denied the right to vote because they had the same last name as a criminal; the hue and cry from the NAACP and the ACLU would have been heard throughout the land!

I wish people would stop whining about an 'illegal election'. It's over! We have our President.
