Goodness, it is quiet in here today. I hope everyone is alright. We have had a lovely Lord's Day here. Church services were a blessing as was the fellowship afterwards.

    Blessings

Honk! Honk! A friend is s'pose to give me 2 goslings to replace "Joe", my Canadian friend. I don't know that I'm up to it...He found me, and it was just perfect. This may turn out more than I bargained for.

Am closer to getting a goat than ever; I have made friends with one up the road. Our guinea hen got ran over & daughter gave us another to replace her. Today I found an egg in the yard that was very soft-shelled, so guess I need to do a search to see what this means.

Well, we have started walking after services, as it is much cooler and have encountered a couple of interesting-looking snakes. One good reason to *pack* as we go. Trouble is, daughter forgot to change out her hollow points & wasted a couple on the last snake. At least we've not seen any 'gators...yet. ;)

    See ya'll tomorrow. [IMG]

Soft shells means the birds lack calcium. We used to feed our hens oyster shell to harden the shells.

Guinea fowl are interesting. They have quite the sound and they sure let you know when anyone or anything is around. The look kinda funny with that big body and little head though.

Goats are nice, but they can also be a pest, cos they get into everything and they like to climb. One of our goats was 40 feet up inside the old barn walking the rafters (large beams). Also saw one walking along the top of the rail fence. Contrary to the cartoons about goats eating tin cans, they are very fussy eaters. They wouldn't eat hay once to fell from the manger to the floor.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I could almost consider this a course in animal husbandry - with all the animal info I am getting today!

    Good day at church.

Rained again over night - rained on the way to work this AM - I'd rather have rain than snow - but would like a week or so of no rain - so I could get the garden worked up and planted.

Dan - back stroked to work this morning!

I'll trade ya my swultry(that's a combo for swelter & sultry) for that rain...but I do understand the need to do the garden.

One of the hazards when son'n'law was into farming, had to keep a close eye on the weather daily. God was truly in complete control of that bizniz.

The weather is God's message, reminding us that we are not in total control of the universe and we are dependent upon His mercies each day.

Yes, we have rain as well, and it rained yesterday, and the day before that. It is also supposed to rain tomorrow.

Rain is the cleansing of the earth's atmosphere and we can visualize it as God's word working in our lives as the detergent of the soul.

Dan, why are you working to-day? I thought it was an holiday in the USA.

    Cheers,

    Jim

It appears I got your holiday wrong. It is next weekend for you.

    My apologies.

Jim - your second post is correct.

We will get Memorial Day off - with pay!

When we are at home on Memorial Day - we usually go to the Troupsburg Methodist Church for a chicken barbeque.

The chicken is prepared by Sterns - a chicken enterprise - and is always very good. What makes this barbeque the best - is that the ladies of the church prepare all the other food - and is it Gooooooood!

I just looked in to say "hello". I hope everyone is ok. Dan, I am busy with a 2000 word exegesis on Isaiah 55 at the moment. Will look in when I can.

God Bless to all of you,

    Sheila

And they all began with one accord to make excuses......

I have been busy doing other things. I think I have only made a post or two in the last few days. I might have to quadruple post to even come close to the lot of you on postings.

Frankly, I found the usual haunts lacking in either postings or substance and have tried other areas of interest.

    Cheers,

    Jim

So sisSheila, that's where you've been! I was concerned, as I hadn't seen ya in a day or two.

Hiya, broDan! [IMG] I'm always here, even tho' I may not post. Don't know what I'm gonna do the week I'm gone to the Campmeeting, which is coming up shortly. Withdrawals is hard. I had 'em bad when I gave away the other 'puter...took me 6 mos. to quit crying! I missed the fellowship.

BroJim~it was 3 goslings...they are 2 Chinese & one white goose. I gave them to my younger son to raise, as he's more set-up. His guineas are hatching out that he had in the incubator. I would have loved seeing your goat on the fence & those rafters! [IMG]

Sheila - keep on studying and writing! I'm sure you learn much from your endeavors - and more than that - get a blessing!

Jim - I'm always interested in reading what you have to say. I only hope that when I'm as old as you - I'll be half as sharp as you.

Granny - there'll come a time in another month or so - when my posting will be drastically reduced! My construction job for the summer is located about 45 miles from my home - so I'll be spending much time in transit. I suspect that I'll suffer some withdrawal also.

Sheila is always hard at it. Good on you. It is an honourable thing to study the word and the things of God, especially when the only goal is one's own edificiation.

Dan, thank you, mate. The feeling is mutual. To be sharp, one must hone the blade. Study to show oneself approved unto God. Never quit the book!

Granny, one of the joys of country living is enjoying the animals. Whilst teaching at the university, three times each week, and pastoring a church in the same city, we were afforded time to take up hobby farming for 8 years. I had always been a city lad, and this was a new experience. The stories that stem from this experience can a book make.

We had an Angus bull that liked to roam. I put a ring in the nose and attached a fifteen foot chain with a truck tyre rim tied to it. This will hold him, I thought. Next day he was three fields over. We watched him. He would twist his head and the tyre rim would go flying in air for fifteen feet. He advanced and eventually worked his way through a fence and in yonder fields.

Then, our neighbour said he could tell the time by our sheep heading home from the pasture. They say that animals are colour blind. When I waled in barnyard with a red pail they came a runniing. When I had green pail, they paid no mind. The red pail always had grain. The green pail was for collecting eggs.

A piglet had decided to adopt a cow. Everytime the cow would lay down in field, the little pig would suck. Could there be such a thing as pork veal?

The goats were always entertaining. They are sure-footed and go to places unimaginable.

I worked the fields based on a turn of the century book on farming, and that was an experience in itself. Oh the tales that flow from a city boy putting his hands to the plough.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Oddly, I have been asked to rewrite my book about The Pony That Couldn't...

It is a story about a young Welsh girl whose father worked in the pits. She wanted a pony badly, but the family was poor and couldn't afford one. Then a pit pony came free. This pony was used to push the wheel round and round providing the air to the mine.

Long story short, the father came home one night from mines with pony in hand and all the men walking with him. The odd part ws that the pony was walking in circles all the way down the street. It had walked in the same circle for 20 years and couldn't walk straight..so it was the Pny That Couldn't......

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Jim,
That sounds like the kind of pony I need to get my grandson. [IMG]
