I got laid off this afternoon. The first thing I wanted to do was come here. I guess that says something about how much I've come to care about all of you and how welcomed I feel by you. [IMG]

I don't think it's truly hit me yet. I nodded and smiled as they gave us the news, and then that was it. A few of us found some things to laugh about, which was good, but I know that in the next few weeks I'm going to have to start some serious planning. My position doesn't end until July 31st, and I have 2 months severence, but then . . . I just don't know.

    *sigh*

I am so sorry to hear that Kelly. You are such a bright young woman, I know God has something better for you! I pray that you will have a job to go to before this one ends!

Just remember, when God closes a door, He always opens a window.

    Blessings,
    Sue

I'm sorry Kelly. I've been there and I know it's quite a shock.

The good news is that you have two months to prepare. The other good news is that this migh give you a good chance to evaluate things. Where you are, where you want to be, etc.

I don't want to sound like I'm making light of a stressful situation for you but this really can be a good opportunity for you if you want it to.

    I'll be praying for you.

    Mike

Here's a cyber-hug for you, my sister [IMG] I pray that this circumstance would work out for good in your life--and that God would be glorified in whatever results.

Kelly, all I can say is I can see the bright side...you have until July and then you will get 2 months severans pay. I've been layed off before, I hate having my security pulled out from under me, it's very disconserting.

But you have been blessed with time, go out on some interviews. I'm sure you'll have landed something else before you need to worry about money. It could be a blessing in desguise, you never know.

Keep your chin up...I'm praying for you. I feel that you'll be fine. ;) Any ideas what you will do? Or what you want to do?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I think of you as sort of my extended family. I'm glad you wanted to come here and share with all of us. We're on your side.

Oh, Kelly, you must still be in shock, but as the others said you have some time to plan. Didn't I read somewhere that you wanted to go to law school? Maybe I am confusing you with someone else. Maybe it's time for law school.

We will pray that you make the right decisions during this time.

Kelly, I'm very sorry to hear you got laid-off.
There's not very much worse than that.
If there's any way your sisters and brothers in Christ can help, lean on us. We remember Romans 12:10-13

May the Lord bless and keep you,

You all are so incredibly great!

I've had a couple hours to think about it, and I think it's actually going to work out to my advantage. In this industry, if it gets out that you're looking for a job, you get let go almost immediately. Compliance and all that. I'd been thinking about looking, but with no current employer reference, it was going to be tough. But now they're bending over backwards to help us all find news jobs - several companies have already expressed interest in talking to some of us, the managers are working their contacts, and glowing references will be forthcoming.

I've got my resume up on my screen now, and tomorrow will call the headhunter that found me this job. The market is depressed, as it is everywhere, but the finance industry isn't nearly so. The statistical DC metro area, though, has one of the higher rates of job openings now anyway.

I could draw unemployment starting the day after my job ends, which is a perk for Maryland -- DC and Virginia make you wait till your severence runs out. I'm not planning on having to do that, but it's always nice to know.

I tell you what, though, I'm glad I didn't get myself into another lease! My current one runs out the end of May, and I was going to move closer to work (ha!), which would not only have been more expensive, but would have put me in another lease. Now that I'm job hunting, I'm open to working anywhere in the metro area, so it's good to be able to move where I might need to.

I'm, of course, a little shaken today, just from the shock of it all, but feel fully confident that tomorrow and the coming weeks will be excellent. This might just be the best thing to happen to me right now.

Thank you all so much for your prayers, and being here to listen to me vent a little (lot). [IMG]

Oh man! That bites! I'm soooo sorry to hear that! If it helps, you're in good company. I've been laid off 4 times in my life, and narrowly survived a layoff at my current job a few short months ago.

However, we're currently hiring, so if you want to move to Orange County, California, it's yours!

Don't forget to file for unemployment insurance. It can be a lifesaver.

Not sure wot I would do if I had to look for a job. All I can say is to keep your chin up and keep smiling. All things do work together for good.
God bless and open doors widely for you.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Been there and done that. It had to be one of the most uneasy feelings I've ever had. On one hand I felt relieved to be rid of that job and on the other hand was overwhelmed by the fact that we lived paycheck to paycheck. Also, I felt like I let my family down.

Well, K.S., God worked thru that ordeal and we can only thank Him for His guidance and strength. We pray that this will also find you.

    Hello, Kelly!

I have been there, too, and it is very hard to take, indeed. Yet from what I have read in your second posting, you seem to have a great attitude towards it all, and with all that is coming up, you will end up much better off than before!

One thing to keep in mind, Kelly, if you do not mind me saying this, is to think about the possibility of going back to school. Many people who are laid off take the time to go back to college and upgrade themselves, either with another degree, an advanced degree, or even finishing up a degree left undone. With many avenues of financial aid available (especially if you are a "mature" student, ie. a student not in the traditional college age group), this may be an option to keep in mind.

Whatever you decide and whatever comes your way, Kelly, I pray that God will bless you and guide you in your future (I also pray this to your colleagues, so that they may all right as well). I have the highest respect for you, Kelly, and I believe that you will do well.

I'll be praying for guidance and wisdom for you. I know God never closes one door without opening another and God never gives us more than we can handle! I trust God will send something great your way soon!

God Bless and Keep your Spirits up!

Kelly, may God help you work it through. Truly feel for you. Similar thing happened to my eldest son, came back from a holiday, second day he was laid off .. was deastating for him. But God provided, two weeks later he was offered a job, and starts this week.
I trust God will draw you close and hold you at this time.

I enjoy reading your posts by the way :)

    Best wishes, and prayers
