Pertaining to Dress..men/women?

I don't. Our church welcomes people in blue jeans, shorts and sandals in the summer, fancy clothes, etc.

The independent Bible Baptist Church that was last i attended, is very strict concerning dress code.

Men church workers are required to dress properly with pant slacks and sleeve (short/long).

Men are not to wear short pants at public places. Even in their sports and public bathing they are not allowed to wear short, jogging pants would do.

Ladies should always wear their modest apparel. No pants or shorts, no sleeveless and dress that are too fit wherein the body contour are noticed.

In their public bathing (swimming) they are to wear jogging pants plus skirts or dress.

When our youngest son renounced his Baptist heritage for the Oneness-doctrine, the particular sect he entered into severely "enforced" strict dress codes.

Just a few of the examples: long-sleeves at all times-length of dress measured with a ruler-no buttons up the back-no namebrand written on clothing-men required to wear white shirts/ties-no opentoe shoes-no gold/silver anywhere-etc.

While I have no problem with these things, I do not see them as a "requirement" for salvation.

Our town is basically UPC/Apostolic & we see "all kinds"...ladies claiming "modesty" yet wear dresses with slits/splits & the Baptists sing "Oh how I love Jesus", while practically naked.

If the heart is not right toward God, all the outward efforts will not add the value that God finds so precious.

Keep they heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Prov4:23

 

No, our church does not. All people are welcome to worship in our church.

 

One I used to attend did. Don't think it was exactly biblical, but they wanted ankle length loose skirts, higher necked tops, etc. Visited one that wouldn't let a female on the property unless they were wearing clothes that fit their rules. Went in in a pair of jeans to pick up a copy of the statement of faith and they included all their rules and stuff, didn't realize I'd broken their rules already until I got home and read it. I did notice two men start arguing and looking at me when I got out of the car, I wondered what it was about but didn't realize until later they were probably arguing over what to do about me. OOPS! I was in and out the door within two minutes anyhow...
I generally follow the dress code wherever I am, and make it my code at home too. It's just easier that way. One exception was at the place I mentioned before where pastor wanted long loose skirts and all that, but it was only for a day. I was cleaning and him and his wife came over unexpected, and I was pretty much wearing rags...old pair of then hubby's cut off shorts and a tank top. He didn't say anything, but did preach on the dress code the next week.

You're right, MEE! The 'Bishop' where my son did attend rules with an iron-fist...but his motives are purely selfish(another story for another day.)

I have actually found that I am closer to the apostolics here(& they know my stand on tongues), than to many of the carnal baptists.

We had one man stop once during our street ministry & come down the line shaking all our hands thanking the sisters for our stand on modesty. He said he was shocked to find out we were Baptist, but it was refreshing!

 

Dang! I would be breaking that everyday when I goto the gym (MWF is basketball: Shorts and a shirt or no shirt (we play shirts and skins))

Also, what are "pants" for a woman? It seems like only jogging pants are allowed?

MEE, we have some Baptist churches in this area that are very strict on clothing issues. One of the Moms in my home school group is a preacher's wife. She wears very long dresses and long socks to cover her skin. If we use their church for a function, I always wear a dress or skirt and blouse. All my dresses and skirts are long anyhow because I like the look/ style. I do it not to offend.

I believe that anybody should be allowed inside the church house, BUT when it comes to the workers of the church(teachers, pastors, bus drivers, etc...) there should be a dress code for them.

That's exactly what we are doing in our church!

 

Anyone who wishes may come to our synagogue, but regarding members, we are told that we must dress modestly, as the Bible says.

 

I like the way this thread is going. I think modesty is the key. But everyone has to define what that is for themselves.

Mee, I like what you said about unmixed swimming. We believe that way as well.

 

No. We have no dress code at my church.

As I've mentioned before, I help to lead a chapel service during the summer for sailors, locals and those who, for one reason or another, don't feel comfortable in a traditional church setting.

We've been doing this for about four years now and I've yet to see a single tie there and only a handful of long pants. It's almost exclusively shorts and t-shirts and a lot of people come barefoot.

They're welcome no matter how they dress.

As for swimming, I used to attend Come Alive New Testament Church in Medford, N.J. and the church actually owned our own swimming pool. There was no strict dress code and men were allowed to swim with (oy gevalt!) women.

 

I wonder why some are offended with the dress code in the church when in some schools and other secular organizations prescribed dress coding. And nobody is against it.

I think it is because, the dark side is doing against it in the church.
