Who may partake of the "Lord's Supper" in a Baptist church?

Do Baptists even take the Lord's Supper?

By the way Ron, nice to see you using the Biblical term for the meal.

    Of course we do.
Saved and baptized believers may take the Lord's supper.

Some one in my baptist church wanted only members to partake in the communion...that way they know those who partake are saved and baptized.

I go to a non-denominational church. Any member of the body of Christ may partake at our assembly. Our church always gives a moment for self-reflection and a time for believers to confess sins. Believers with unconfessed sin or un-dealt with sin are encourged not to partake. Baptism has nothing to do with the Lord's supper, in our assembly.

    In Christ,
    Brian

    Brian,

    Believers with unconfessed sin?

How do members of your church confess their sins?

    Publicly?

Do you know they are really saved? How do you know what's in their hearts? Only they and God know.
And what makes you think someone who isn't a member isn't saved?

Hi Ron, we confess our sins to God directly. We may confess to others if need be, to get their forgivness or just to tell someone for prayer purposes. In a worship services it is just silently to God. We do this based on the popular verses below from 1 Cor. We all need to self-examine alot more then we do, well I do anyway.

    KJV 1 Cor. 11(I think)
23] For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
[24] And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
[25] After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
[26] For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.
[27] Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
[28] But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.
[29] For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.

Hope that explains what and why we do the Lord's table the way we do.

Ron, How are things anyway? Hope you and yours had a great Easter and are doing well [IMG]

    In Christ,
    Brian

Brain, how do you determine that?

If spell out your qualifications for "member of the body of Christ", no doubt you would get many objections here on the board.

So far, baptized beleiver seems to be the concensus on this thread.

    I wonder why that is?

No doubt many of those same people would say that baptism is not necessary for salvation.

Would that then be a case of adding something?

    Ron

It was pretty easy, actually. I went before my congregation, knelt at the altar, confessed that I was a sinner and accepted Jesus as my Savior, and had the symbolic water sprinkled on my head.

Oh, I used to hear that a lot before I was saved.

"If you don't go to church, you might go to hell. But if you don't go to OUR church, there won't be any doubt about it."

    Sad.

    Dictionary definition of "baptize"

    Dictionary definition of "shower"

Now, which one would you say best resembles what I described?
</font>[/QUOTE]neither one baptize means full immersion...where else in the bible does the baptising show that sprinkling was done..for each mention shows FULL IMMERSION

Prove it to me. I was under the distinct impression that Jesus was neither dunked nor sprinkled, but that he had water poured on his head.

What does it matter, as long as we make a public profession of faith?
