Have you never heard of the expression "the pot calling the kettle black"? Haven't you made mistakes before? Haven't you appologized for them before? Haven't you ever done anything you were sorry for before? Haven't you ever once in your life time said something stupid?!

All this upset over a country singer saying that she was ashamed that President Bush was from Texas. Who cares anyway...Have you seen the real protests that are going on out there? This one is so small...I'm really surprised that it got any recognition whatsoever.

What on earth does "lambast" mean anyway. Frankly the way you embellish on the English language...well let's just say it's creative.

If it means what I think it means...I doubt they would waste their time having an opinion of me. But thanks for thinking I'm important enough to warrent that kind of attention.

The things we get our nickers in a twist about around here. [IMG]

P.S. please forgive me kind sir, from the depths of my heart...I guess I'm the kettle too. ;)

    Sister Wisdom!

Lambast--"to beat soundly, to scold severely"

I perceive that you are a lady of God--and my attack wasn't on you but on the group that set their heart "like a flint" to scold our favored leader! As a citizen of the United States it is my honor to give my life for our President and his defense--and it tears my heart apart to see someone take a stab toward his back--friendly fire on the leader!

I always enjoy reading your posts--laughable at times when you get together with Sisters Sherrie and Gina--two great women's minds on the board! I perseave that you are squared up with scripture and that Jesus Christ is Lord and Master of your life--

I am a generation ahead of you, my dear Sister! And right behind you is a generation that faces extinction(morally and spiritually)--you and I must do our best to carry them through to the saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ--it just grieves me to see a generation dying and at the same time giving itself over to senseless, mindless music and lyrics that the entertainment industry throws at them--and then to hand around and "ga-ga, goo-goo" and gauk and laugh when the mindless ones spew out trash like what we heard this past week--

Sure, it was David who asked forgiveness--and got it! But he never ever regained the confidence of the Israelites--he lost their respect--in the same way when groups "bounch" and pounce on American leadership--respect is lost and is never regained!

Now, I love ya, dear Sister! And regardless of how you now feel of me--I'll still respond to you and be your board friend! Will you pray for me?? I need it as a husband, a daddy, and as a pastor/preacher of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ!

Your Southern Baptist preachin', President lovin' buddy,

    Blackbird

    Dear Blackbird,

It is a sad state of affairs isn't it? You said that you are a generation older than Wisdom Seeker, so I will guess that you are about my age? I think the biggest difference is that in our day, there was no T.V. or Satalite feads or Internet like there are nowadays.

These young woman are in their 20's aren't they? I remember making mistakes when I was that young. But I was brought up in the 40's and 50's when mothers stayed at home, where church was so much a part of our life. Where manners were taught along with the three R's. Where God and country were inseperable. When we learned to be greatful for what we had.

I feel so sorry for these young woman. They are surely sorry now and have learned a tough lesson. How incomprehensible to have the added embarassment of making it in the full view of the world.

I personally can forgive a young person for making a mistake. When they have repented of it with a contrite heart as these girls have.

    God Bless You,
    Charlotte

The damage is done. Mistakes can be forgiven, but the effects stay around.

Some of us couldn't make the same mistake, 'cuz when I was in my early 20's, I was in the Persian Gulf with about 300 other sailors.

Stupid comments, made in haste, with little thought, stick around a long time.

In Hollywood, it appears you can say anything you want against your country, and people exalt you for it. Not the same case in Nashville, now, is it ? Good. It is my most sincere hope that she has to go out and get a real job now, since she don't appreciate the opportunity given to her in this country.

What a joke. Shame on her!!! I hope she never sells another record in the U.S.

Blackbird, why whatever do you mean? (I don't know what to make of you putting me in a group with Gina and Sherrie either? Oh my! [IMG] ) No worries my friend. By now you ought to know that when I say something, it is always said in a jovial way. I may give you a hard time...but it's only because I see you can dish it out and can take it too.

A generation apart eh? Do you know how old I am? I thought we were about the same age. Hmmm. How old are you?

    In Christ,
    Laurenda

P.S. maybe it's because I'm a woman...if I were a man, no-one would assume that because I have strong opinions and ask pointed questions that i'm angry. ;)

    Sister Wisdom,
Well, according to your mug shot there with your husband--I would venture to put you in the early 30's--or late 20's!! Whichever one makes you happy!! Sherrie tried to pass off her age at 20 something one time--I kept probein' and proddin' and finally got a confession--

Come May I'll tip the years at 44! My wife is forty something--but can pass for the 20's--I was with her and her momma one time in Wal-Mart and I was accused of being her daddy--that's the closest I've ever come as a preacher to "Jap Slappin'" a Wal-Mart clerk--my wife's momma didn't like it either cause she don't want me to be her husband!!(No more than I want her to be my wife!!)

    Thanks for being my friend!

Well, thank you for the compliment...but I'll be 41 in November.

There's an added benefit to the pictures on the B.B. being so small. [IMG] (and yes, it is a current picture)

I knew you were closer to my age...you're only slightly older than my husband. He'll be 43 next Tuesday (the 25th)

That's a funny story about your wife and the Wal-Mart clerk. People often mistake my little sister who's 24 for my daughter, and my mother who will be 61 this year as my sister. I don't see it...but people are strange...who can guess why they think the things they do.

You're welcome, and thank you for being mine. [IMG]

    Sue,

The President is not the "head of our country". He is the head of the administrative branch of the federal government. He is our employee, he reports to us. That's what the Constitution says.

Saddam Hussein is the head of Iraq. Hitler was the head of Germany. Nero was the head of Rome.

The USA is not a monarchy or a dictatorship, it is a Constitutional Republic. I hope that you can see this.

I do agree with your comment about the UN, though.

I choose to boycott them becuase I find them un-patriotic and hypocritical and I find their music distasteful. First, they are going to protest the war and then they come out with a song about a Soldier (granted, it is about Vietnam, but it is still "touching" to many soldier's families here who don't realize that this song is the epitome of hypocrasy) They trash the leader that God chose for their country. One thing that I had to learn a while back was even if you can't respect a person, you still respect the position. They may not respect Bush, or even like him, but they, as Americans, should respect his position of authority. Even here in Ga, some radio stations are pulling them off the air. If they have the freedom to protest against us, then we certainly have the freedom to boycott them. They may or may not realize it, but something tells me that their career in music is heading downhill fast.

    Dear Jim,
The President is not "our Employee". (Hey, buddy, clean the restroom after you wipe out the fries cooker there). Article 2 of the Constitution reads in section 1 " The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. He shall hold his Office during the Term of four Years, and, together with the Vice President, chosen for the same term
The President is the Cheif Executive of the nation, the "head" if you will, running the nation's daily affairs (not as in Clinton's affairs [IMG] ).
Section 2 of the same article reads, Section 2. The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States
and He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties
In the area of foreign relations and most certainly in areas of conflict (war) the framers of the Constitution intended the President to be the "Head of the US" and I believe, except in cases of (sever) abuse, expected the citizens of the nation to follow.
The purpose of government is to praise that which good, protect the innocent and defenseless and punish the wicked. Part 1 of that doesn't apply here, but it seems to me that the second and third do.
I will grant an issue of sovereignty here, but I agree with the president's, when in his March 17, 2003 address to the nation he said, " We are now acting because the risks of inaction would be far greater. In one year, or five years, the power of Iraq to inflict harm on all free nations would be multiplied many times over. With these capabilities, Saddam Hussein and his terrorist allies could choose the moment of deadly conflict when they are strongest. We choose to meet that threat now, where it arises, before it can appear suddenly in our skies and cities. "
    Your servant, mark

May God bless our country and all who defend her. President Bush, March 19, 2003

This is an interesting thought. Did God also choose Saddam Hussien? Tony Blair? ... funny the majority of the American people didn't choose GWB... but God did! Divine Right of Presidents

The last time I checked we elect our president by a majority vote of the Electoral College and George W. Bush won a majority.

God places leaders in power and He also removes them. Hussein is currently in the process of being removed.

Mark, thamks for the response. I hope the original poster to whom I addressed my comments least reads our exchange even though she did not respond. Anyway, here are my thoughts:

Mark, the constitution does not go against what I said. It makes the president, as you quoted, the head of the executive branch of the federal government, which in turn has very limited scope and power. It nowhere says or even implies that he is "running the nation's daily affairs". Sadly, we have come to a day where the federal governmnet is looked upon by many as God, and depended upon for care from cradle to grave. But, that is not its constitutional function. THE PRESIDENT IS AN ADMINISTRATOR, NOT A KING.

    [/qb]

Treaties must also be ratified by the senate, who represents the states and the people. Note that he is "Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States"...not of you and me, although I certainly do support out military. And, war can only be declared by congress, not the president, so technically he is not even commander in chief right now. But that may seem like a mere technicality in a day when we are governed not by our Constitution, but by the political parties

After reading some of the posts here you'd think that some think GW is the fourth member of the trinity. Read your Bibles and you will find it is always the civil rulers who lead a nation into idolatry and apostacy. Example- Rehoboam and Solomon. Or try Ahab and Mannassa. All authority comes from God. Even wicked Nebucanezzar(I'm sure I misspelled that)was called a servant of God. I'm more intrested in seeing America bless The Eternal Son of God The Lord Jesus Christ.

Well...if we are going to suggest that we read our Bibles, here's a scripture: For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39 I won't address the scriptures about praying for those who have the authority over us, or the ones about any power given in this world is given by God, or the ones about doing all things as if we were doing them for the Lord. But I did want to address what looks like the core of what you are saying. Nothing can or will be able to seperate us from God, if we are His.

I thought this thread was about the Dixie Chicks?...has it changed from a discussion about oranges into one about bananas? (paraphrased from a quote from Sue that I liked.)

Something that's crossed my mind: What if Point of Grace did a concert in Europe about the time that Clinton ordered US troops to intervene in Bosnia, and one of their girls made the comment "We're ashamed that President Bill Clinton is from Arkansas" ? What kind of reaction would that get from outsiders???
