Afro erectus

    Those of us in the paleoanthropological community who consider both ourselves and our honorable ancestors to be the true descendents of the first and original ape-like human beings to descend from the tree-tops and scamper about the savannas of East Africa eons ago hereby take issue with those Homo sapiens who stalk these forums in search of life, truth and unfettered liberty in the name of Confucian religious science.

    Central to the core at the heart of this contentious issue is the arrogant and imperious Eurocentric assumption that our first honorable ancestors on earth were named Homo habilis and Homo erectus as if they were the likely forefathers of some general in the Roman army or some French and English botany professor in the 18th century.

    With all due respect to all other opinons and beliefs expressed in these forums, we the true descendents of our original ancestors in darkest Africa do hereby announce to the whole diversifed paleontological world at large that the true name of the first tribe of upright men and women to walk the face of God's green earth was ethnically known as Afro erectus.

    We knew the Arabs and Euros would come and enslave us one day and subject us to foreign languages and strange religions. What our holy men and women failed to forsee was that one day our fossil remains would become known to the world through a dead European language called Latin.

    I'm not sure I understand the point that you have been trying to make with all these threads.

    Do you not believe that you and I, and every other person that lives or has ever lived, share one first ancestor?

    Yes, but did they evolve from apes in East Africa or were they special creations of God?

    I believe the latter but as the religion of evolution classifies me in the former I just want to change their ancestor's names from Homo.

    Very observable of you, Paul. Based on that reliable bit of information would you deny that person was an Afro erectus?

    Or do you still insist on using the archaic Latin term, Homo?

    Since the word "African" and its derivative, "Afro", are from Latin just like "homo" (meaning "man") your point is pointless.

    "Ecco Homo".

    At least 'Afro' is more ethno and geocentric to Africa. And gender neutral too.

    'Homo' also connotes 'sameness,' so for the sake of diversity we should call our African ancestors Afro erectus or Afro dexterous and reserve 'Ecco Homo' for someone else.

    Hm, at least? Isn't that what your entire rant is based on?

    Is "ethno" a word? Why should it be more "ethno", when the anthropologists are saying this is our great granddaddy? Makes no sense.


    Well, yeah, as in "common ancestor" and same genetic line.

    As though you care anything for diversity...about as much as you approve of gender neutrality.

    So you want to emphasize the European name for the continent from which we came over the "humanness"?

    It just seems weird (and rather unintelligent) to use a Latin name to protest using a Latin name. Something in Swahili might've been more appropriate, if anything could be deemed appropriate about this strange rant.


    I dunno, I guess it's your pretending to be an African paleotologist - attributing sentiments which don't exist - that's offensive. I'm surprised you didn't write it in dialect.
