    wopik,
When Jesus spoke to the theif on the cross and told him that he would be in paradise...could that be concidered heaven?
    Found in Luke 23:43.
If this is so then in 2Cor 12:1-6 Paul is speaking of a vision of paradise. Also in Rev.2:7 the scripure tells where paradise is.
Concidering these scriptures, would it then be a hint of people going to heaven?

    God bless,
    And thats a good question!

There is no splitting of hairs here for me when it comes to terms.

I just take his word for it: I will be with him upon my death and afterward. And if Jesus is in heaven, then that is where I will be.

I'm not "going" anywhere when I die. My spiritual selfe will simply be in the Lord's presence after my physical life on earth has ended.

I take it to mean that the kingdom of heaven is in heaven, but I suppose someone could argue that point.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmm

    Must be a trick question?

    What *is* heaven?

    Is it the New Jerusalem?

Is it the Kingdom of God, which is within one's heart?

Is it a state of Full Peace and joy, "In His presence is fullness of Joy".

Irregardless of our concept of 'Heaven' there are 238 references to Heaven in the KJV...

Jesus spoke of it many times... 130 times (more than half) in the gospels.

It is mentioned 22 times in Acts alone...

Pauls mentions it 20 times (not including Hebrews 5 times)

The Other NT Writers use it 7 times (Excluding The Revelation 54 Times)

So, I *must* assume that Heaven (all three of them) are real literal places...

Lastly, Jesus is at God's Right Hand,
    and
SO, if to be absent from the Body is to be Present with the Lord...

And, The Lord (Jesus) is with the Father....

And, The Father is in the (third) Heaven...

Then I can say with assurance that I *will* go to Heaven... :D

"For I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better; yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake.” ---Phillipians 1:23-24 NAS / 2Timothy 4:6-8.

Notice, Paul did not say where he would go or when he would be with Christ.

There is not one word mentioning heaven here, nor is there one word saying that he would be with Christ immediately.

In 2Timothy 4:6-8 Paul wrote: "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."

Paul explains what he meant by being with Christ. He does not receive his reward immediately at death. But there is laid up a crown of righteousness which the Lord shall give him at that day. What day? At Christ's appearing----His second coming.

In Isaiah 40:10 we notice this same day mentioned: "Behold, the Lord God will come….behold, his reward is with him..." See also Revelation 22: 12.

To die is gain! In death, there is no knowledge of passing time (Eccl. 9: 5,6,10; Ps. 146: 4). THE NEXT MOMENT IS THE RESURRECTION!

Talking about splitting hairs! Straining at gnats and swallowing a camel. Some folks just like to be contentious and polemic I think.

what wopik is saying, I think, is that when we die, our soul sleeps, and the next time we open our eyes is in the resurrection of the dead.

    1) "But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep...." (1 Thess 4:13).

    2) "...even so them also who sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him" (1 Thess 4:14).

    3) "We shall not all sleep, but we shall be changed...." (1 Cor. 15: 51-53).

    4) David fell asleep (Acts 13:36).

    5) Many were sickly and fell asleep (1 Cor. 11:30)

    pinoybaptist, Thank you.

The same with the rich man. According to the story, The rich man died - slept [eyes closed] -- Luke 16:22.

The next time we read about the rich man, his eyes are OPEN - "he lift up his eyes" (Lk 16:33) - in his grave [hell, hades].

The rich man is resurrected and sees Abraham and Lazarus - immortal - in the Kingdom of God, and he himself still mortal and ready to be thrown into the Lake of Fire - to be destroyed for all eternity.

This is the "great gulf" that exists between the rich man and Abraham, Lazarus (Lk 16:26). The latter two are immortal and in the Kingdom. But the rich man is still mortal, and will soon be burned up in the Lake of Fire -- like so much fat or chaff (Ps. 37:20 / Matt 3:12).

Well then......during the resurrection wouldn't those of us that are saved eventually go to heaven. [IMG] Good or bad every man will be resurrected, judged, comdememed or commended (which ever the case may be}. The important thing is that people need to hear and accept the gospel of the Christ so they need not perish. There are some that think they just sleep and never wake up therefore are lost. Jesus offers eternal life (not sleep ;) ) and God is the God of the living not the dead.

Yes it does say the those people sleep, but one day we'll all "wake up"! [IMG] Well unless we are of the few mentioned in #3 that you mentioned.
    3) "We shall not all sleep, but we shall be changed...." (1 Cor. 15: 51-53).
