Why do people feel threatened by this couple?
12:01 AM CDT on Sunday, October 5, 2003

    By ELLEN GOODMAN

Toward the end of this marriage-in-everything-but-name, this wedding-in-every-sense-except-the-legal, the rabbi lay two wrapped glasses on the lawn. One was for my cousin Adam. The other for his partner, Rodrick.

The rabbi told the friends and family on that meadow that the custom of breaking the glass had many origins but that one seemed to fit this occasion. Once, people believed there were demons in the world out to thwart the chance for human happiness and to harm the couple. So, the couple broke the glass to scare them away.

No, there were no demons in our late-summer gathering, unless you count the mosquitoes. But we understood the rabbi's analogy when he offered his blessing. May the breaking of this glass, he said, protect Adam and Rodrick from "contemporary demons who seek to denigrate their love and deny the sanctity of their relationship."

So, when they shattered the glasses with a matched set of determined footsteps, there was a spontaneous cheer of "mazel tov," good luck.

Adam and Rodrick had invited us to celebrate their commitment. It is the word "celebrate" that graced their invitation. We weren't invited to tolerate their commitment. We weren't invited to accept it. We were invited to celebrate it.

Some people had come a long way to be there, and I don't mean just geographically. We were there to toast two people who found each other and pledged to each other.

    [snip]

Their ceremony wasn't a political statement. A lawyer and a college fund-raiser, both in their 30s, they aren't a gay poster couple. Adam and Rodrick – forgive me, guys – wouldn't make the Fab Five in Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. Adam would have worn a T-shirt and jeans to this event, if anyone let him get away with it.

Still, when I am told by Focus on the Family that gay marriage would be "a devastating and potentially fatal blow to the traditional family," I think about my cousin and the warm, funny Southerner he has brought into our lives.

What exactly is so "devastating" about the two who bring an annual excess of mixed olives and good cheer to Thanksgiving? How on earth could their commitment – or marriage – for better or for worse, be a "fatal blow" to my own marriage?

Citizens of Romans Chapter One live in your neighborhood--men and women of perversion who God gives up to repobate minds!

They do their own thing because thats who they are--they are "their own"--and do not belong to God.

They are given to repobate minds and not to the mind of Christ!

But while they are still living--there is still hope! While it is called "Today"--they can come to Jesus for salvation! They can be washed in His blood and cleansed from sin to sin no more! But I tell ya--its an evil hold--almost impossible--but it can be done--salvation can come!

The wedding described in this article is not typical of the gay lifestyle. It is the exception, not the rule. The gay lifestyle is not about marriage, eternal love, and fidelity to one partner. But the writer wants the public to think that it is typical and thereby harmless.

It may sound according to worldly standards as ok, but God said it is SIN. If they were nice people, yet drug dealers or alcoholics or pedophiles, would you "welcome" them? SIN is SIN, but a lifestyle of SIN is not to be accepted as ok. They just are not welcomed. Repentance is the answer.

all sin has been devastating toward man kind, and the world will not ever be morally reformed, in fact it will wax worst. the gospel will never be harmed and the elect will never be thwarted.

If it wouldn't waste a lot of space, I'd copy every reply above and say ditto!

I have three good friends who are gay.

In each case, their relationships with other men have been a disaster.

How can gays say that they won't damage the idea of the traditional family when gay relationships are in such bad shape?

With more than half of all marriages ending in divorce these days, I truly doubt that gay marriages can screw the institution up much further - straight people have already accomplished that.

I would like to say two things.

Firstly, I agree with all said here. My sole reason for being against it is because the Bible is against it. If the world wants to mock me for that, then I am in good company to be mocked with...Jesus Christ.

Secondly, isn't it nice to have all of us here on a Baptist website agreeing on this subject? I know there are many points of doctrine that almost none of us would agree on, but we are united in this cause as well as others. As long as we continue to stand strong in the faith, maybe God will bless America after all. [IMG]

LOL How can you be either intolerant or unaccepting of something, or both, yet truly celebrate it? That should make stupid comment of the century.
"Hey mom, I really cannot accept that you married Jill. It disgusts me. It's sin. But here's a toaster because I'm really really happy for you!"

Brett, it is not that the institution of marriage is bad,if it is done the way God Said to do it. The problem is a sin problem. There is no need to compound the problems of marriages by adding perversion into the problem.

First, there is no love, as the Rabbi says there is; only LUST.
Second, there is no sanctity, as the Rabbi says there is; only sin and a blanket condemnation from God's Holy Word.
Thirdly, as evidenced in the quote below, an invitation of a celebration to a commitment of a sinful lifestyle is an abomination in God's eyes; who in Hab.1:13, said:
Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity:

    quote from article
God does not tolerate sin; He condemns it.
In our nation the homosexual minority have pushed their agenda so far that they have been able to change the traditional definition of marriage of one man to one women to include gays. I believe this nation is ripe for the condemnation of God. Why do people feel threatened by this couple?, the name of this thread. Because it one big step of victory in the diabolical agenda of the homosexual lifestyle, that will destroy this nation, even as God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.

And thus, I would not have attended. I cannot celebrate sin.

I will also celebrate the disgust expressed in the above posts. Yuck!

The homosexual agenda will not rest until they have forced their perverted lifestyle on all of society. It has exploded in the past twenty or so years and all we can expect is more of the same. :(

What is also disgusting is that this "couple" will probably have no trouble finding a church where their lifestyle is accepted.
