Is the Tribulation Period seven or three and a half years in length?

Does Revelation 12:6 belong with the first five verses of this chapter (past history) or does it belong with the last verses of this chapter (future prophecy}?

Why is this event mentioned twice in this chapter (verses 6 and 14}?

In Revelation 10:7, we find the following words, "But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, ---" Who was the seventh angel? What is the mystery of God?

Does God's trumpet and vial judgments run in tandem? Are there only seven judgments and not 14 as is commonly supposed?

Is the Tribulation Period only three and a half years in duration and not seven as is commonly supposed?

In regard to the Book of Revelation, I have a lot more questions but these should suffice for the moment.

    In His love,

Brother Bill, I'm going to move your thread down to the theology section cause this forum is for News Items and there is no news link in your post. (Not that it won't be news one day, LOL!) ;) Thanks for understanding.

Bill, in my own opinion, we are in the tribulation period and have been since the founding of the church. It is going to get worse just before He comes.

You are correct to note that the vials and trumpets overlap. They are not the only overlapping that takes place. In my studies of revelation I see several overlapping descriptions of earth history from the time of the new testament era until the coming of Christ.

The first - Chapter 6 through 8:1 The seven seals.

The second - 8:2 through 11:19; the seven trumpets.

The third - 12:1 - 14:20 (not tied to seven of anything)

    The fourth - 15:1 - 19:21 the seven bowls

The fifth - 20:1 - 15 (satan as imprisoned during the age of the church until the last days)

One of these days I'll make a fuller study outline available on my web site.

Needless to say I'm not a premillinist!

I see a basic 7-year tribulation, with the second half (3.5 years) as being a more intense or Great tribulation.

We aren't there yet and, praise God, His church will NOT be part of it. We look for a "Blessed Hope" - the rapture and taking to heaven for the Marriage of the Lamb.

Needless to say, I AM a pre-millenialist! [IMG]

Before you start trying to interpret this difficult book get the time frame first.

The book begins with this statement:

    Revelation 1

    1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show unto his servants, even the things which must shortly come to pass: and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John;
2 who bare witness of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, even of all things that he saw.
3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of the prophecy, and keep the things that are written therein: for the time is at hand .

    Then ends with this:

20 He who testifieth these things saith, Yea: I come quickly . Amen: come, Lord Jesus.

To me this puts it in the 1st century time, therefore must be interpreted with that in mind.

Needless to say, I'm a preterist.

    Dr. Griffin,

There is none verse anywhere in the book of Revelation saying there shall be seven year of tribulation period.

Rev. 12:6 & 14 tells us, that Satan shall persecute Christians for only 3 1/2 years. Rev. 13:5 tells us, Antichrist shall given to have power for only 42 months.

Book of Revelation shows of retelling events and there have parallels. It is not chronological.

Book of Revelation covers whole history from early church to the scond advent.

I am not preterist. I am amill, but rather t saying it, 'eternality kingdom' than amill.

    In Christ
    Re. 2:20 - Amen!

Here is a practical and honest question for any prophesy expert. If you surely know prophesy then you should know why these things need be. I don't know for myself but I want to know.

Why does it have to get worse before he comes back? What is the detailed purpose and what is God's goal by allowing things to get really bad here?

    Sincerely,

    Dave.

Makes you wonder with so many different answers, what's wrong with God's church?

Everyone realizes that the only people who "discuss" the meaning of Revelation are biblically conservative; you do realize this right!?

    Go2Church,
Not really and why do you say that? Heck to tell you the truth there are so many labels on the church I don't knoe who believe what anymore.
Is discuss different than to teach?
if not, did you know God commanded that revelation be taught?

Pretrib Premillenial means you are saved.

Amillenial means it is a coin toss.

Postmillenial means you are part of a cult.

Preterist means you have never had any exposure to truth.

So what do you do with the pan millenialist?

They believe everything will pan out somehow.

What do you do with the pro millenialist?

    Whatever happens, they're for it.

    :D

It's a judgement thing. Things will have become so bad that another intervention is necessary, like Sodom and Gommorah, like the flood.

Yes, the discussion of Revelation, the time-line of the second coming, is not an issue for those you do no take the bible serious, so why would they discuss it?!?! Biblical conservatives are the ones writing the books and having the seminars.

Yes, the discussion of Revelation, the time-line of the second coming

Lets let the words of Jesus determine the time-line.

Matt 10:23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee into the next: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone through the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come .

Matt. 16:27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then shall he render unto every man according to his deeds.
28 Verily I say unto you, there are some of them that stand here, who shall in no wise taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

Matt24:34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all these things be accomplished.

Rev 20:20 He who testifieth these things saith, Yea: I come quickly . Amen: come, Lord Jesus.

    Just a few of many.

    In the accounts of the great tribulation we are given timings as such;

Time, times and dividing of times
Time, times and half a times
    1260 days
    42 months

All these descriptions are of a 3 ½ year period.

The teaching of a 7 year period comes from Dan 9:27 that he will confirm a covenant with many for one week. (A week being a week of years or 7 years). In the middle of the 7 year period he commits the abomination of desolation spoken of by Jesus in Matt 24:15.

In all accounts of the “great tribulation” it starts at this mid-point or last 3 ½ years.

    Even Jesus tells us this in Matt 24. He tells us about the abomination of desolation in Daniel in verse 15 and then in verse 21 the tells us;

    (21) For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

So he tells us that at the mid point or abomination of desolation will start the "great tribulation" or last 3 1/2 years.

In which I do believe that we will be here until the last trumpet.

    Grasshopper,
You left out Heb.10:37- For in just a very very(Gk:eek:son, oson)little(Gk:mikron) while, "He who is coming will come and WILL NOT DELAY"(emphasis mine). Yet to this and the passages you mentioned above there has been preaching delay for nearly 2000 years! Hebrews was written around 62-65 AD, so it sure seemed to this inspired writer that something was expected to happen soon. Peter stated: "The end of all things is near." The greek word for near is 'eggike' from 'eggizo'(Strongs # 1448) meaning at hand, near, (lit. approaching). The end of what is at hand? It surly can not mean the world or time itself! I am glad to read your post so that I can see that there are others who at least believe in what these inspired writers had to say rather than side-stepping these time statements,

Yep, but believe me there are some on this board that will say those words don't mean what they say.
