What use is an English Bible Version for those who can't read English?

The most common subject for debate here is the ongoing struggle between the KJV-only folks and the multiple versions folks.
Yes I know, you never noticed that before ;) .
How does God's promise to preserve his Word fit in with the KJV-only position if you don't speak English?

The Netherlands has it's own KJV-only movement.
The infallible inspired translation they believe is the 'Staten Vertaling'. Mind you, Dutch Christians who take this position are all hardline Calvinists (not a Baptist among them).

I have a copy of the Staten Vertaling Dutch Bible, as well as another translation. I also have a copy of the Gutenberg Bible in German. I'd love to hear an arguement as to what makes other translations more perfect than these.

This group of the KJV onlyists believes ALL foreigners MUST read the *English* KJV, but the Scripture disagrees with them. Read Romans 16:26. God preserved His Words in all foreign Bibles such as the Tepl Bible, the Waldensan Bible, the KJV, the Olivetan Bible and other accurate Bibles.

Who believes this? Can you provide us with some examples of statements that support this claim?

For the average member sitting in the pew, any translation that gets them reading the Bible is good enough for me.

The serious pastors use all kinds of resources to get the right reading and incorporate these ideas into any translation they happen to read.

In this sense, I think the rabid debates over translations is senseless and only adds to the futility of the people.

I use my old KJV, but only because it was what I started with and with which I am most familiar. The group I belong to does not claim infallibility in any translation. We only claim inerrancy in the originals, and we don't have any of those available.

Get into the word. That is the war cry from this preacher. I am sure you will only benefit, and God will bless you.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Dr Ruckman and Dr. Gipp believe all foreigners must read the KJV only, but Dr. Waite and David Cloud believe that all foreigners can have their accurate foreign Bibles such as the Tepl Bible, the Waldensan Bible, the Olivetan Bible and others. See the difference between them defending the KJV.

As for quotes, they shouldn't be hard to find. (Someone who isn't about to undergo surgery can find them - that counts me out :D ) I've heard tons of KJVOs claim that foreigners must learn KJV English in order to truly be spiritual or whatever. I know that in the KJVO circles I came out of, this was the view. However, I wouldn't say these are the majority of KJVO folks.

I have heard some brethren state that if a person was saved using ANY OTHER VERSION than the KJV, they were not truly saved. Anyone know Jack Hyles?

I doubt that this COULD POSSIBLY be accurate and I must have misunderstood. No one in their right mind could add the "works" of learning English, (especially archaic Jacobean English), in order for someone to get saved!

What do you do if an "accurate" Bible translation in French or German or Spanish disagrees with the
"accurate" KJV? How do you decide which one is "most accurate?"

I thought that the discussion was what KJVOs believed here on the Baptist Board. I do not deny that there are some out there with radical views regarding the KJV; I just haven't seen it to that extent in here.

Well, I know I've seen these kinds of quotes on here. I've never gotten the search feature to work real well, and I don't know how far back it will go.

Been on here almost three years. Seen more than I'd care to talk about

    Pastor/Bob asked:

    Who believes this?

    "Dr." Samuel C. Gipp, Th.D.

On the now-infamous John Ankerberg program about KJV-onlyism, James White witnessed "Dr." Samuel C. Gipp, Th.D. say so. He writes:

"Dr." Samuel C. Gipp, Th.D. is a major player in the KJV-only movement, so his claims carry some weight.

I followed that link to chick.com.
Dr. Samuel C. Gipp, Th.D. provides no Scriptural basis for his answer to the question.

I disagreed with Jack Hyles because he misinterpreted the Scripture.

Although Dr. Hyles did hold this philosophy, I do not think he carried it over to non-English speaking people. Here are some quotes from his book Enemies of Soulwinning Chapter 5 - False Bibles:

Although I disagree with Dr. Hyles on this issue, I don't think he added the "works" of learning English in order for someone to get saved!

</font>[/QUOTE]To negate concerning many *accurate* foreign Bibles and the KJV is not necessary because God provided His preserved Words in all foreign Bible translations.

John Ankerberg and James White are foes of the KJV. I disagree with James White concerning manuscript evidences that he comments. An excellent book that I have at home, showed manuscript evidences that James White did not give.

Doesn't KJV-onlyism inhierently infer that all non-English translations are imperfect, since only the KJV is perfect?

They are not foes of the KJV, they are foes of KJV-Onlyism. There is a big difference.
