Be careful Kelly Some of us grew up in that era and wouldn't have been caught dead without a poodle skirt and saddle shoes!!!

 

Like I said, if the culture was as it was on TV . . . if you believed the telly, that seems to be the norm for young girls.

All the more reason not to get nostalgic based on the old tv shows of the time -- if what we're indeed saying is that life wasn't really like that.

 

The Ozbournes will reap what they have sown.

Just watch the next ten years when the kids grow up.

 

No thanks...I think the fad of watching the Osbournes will have long past by then. Besides...I have my own "holy terrors" of children to watch grow up.

 

I do have a pair of red and white saddle shoes
from the '50s, and I love to wear them once in a
while with jeans, bobbysox, a big white shirt with
shirt tails hanging out, and my hair in a red scarf.
It is a fun costume when I am in the mood. I wear
bright red lipstick on those days.

Re Follywood, they would have us women all
sassing ultra-stupid husbands and all children
would be far wiser than anyone over the age of 25.
We would all be in some kind of trouble, and we
would all live far above our budgets. All us women
wpould be gorgeous, with perfect complexions
and perfect figures. Not gonna happen at my
house--except for the part about the intellectual
children.

 

What a refreshing thread! I remember when "Leave It to Beaver" was in prime time and every show was new. I hid behind the horsehair sofa with empathy every time the Beav got into trouble. Ward and June taught me "sir" and "ma'am" - my own parents sure didn't do it.

My husband missed out on Beaver while growing up (he's younger than me), and now it's one of his favorite shows! I'd watch it while fixing dinner, and eventually he'd be reminding ME that Beaver was on. Until recently there were back-to-back episodes at 6 and 6:30, and we'd arrange dinner around them.

Now in the same time slots, he watches Sanford and Son, a show I disliked when it was new and in which I can find no merit now. I think I need to change the dinner hour.

I never really liked Sanford and Sons either. Although Redd Foxx was funny.

What I always wanted to know...is who would let themselves be nicknamed "Beaver" anyway...seems to be cruel and unusual punishment for a little kid...I.M.O.

 

I don't think the kid had a choice. I think the show revealed that Wally had trouble saying "Theodore" when the little brother was born, and it came out "Beaver."

Like we don't know anybody in own lives with wacky nicknames? My husband's family has a "Choppy," and an "Uncle Wiggle." Their real names aren't any more common than their nicknames.
