Does the Bible give any indication as to how long it took to load the ark?

Well, it just took a few minutes to open the top and drop in two stone tablets, plus torah manuscripts, so I'd say about 5 minutes.

Oh, wait!!! You mean, the "other" ark...

Nope. I just looked it up. Not a clue.

God sent the animals to Noah. God may have started sending the animals long before the ark was completed. If that were the case, the actual loading time would have been much less than we would think.

I have always believed it took seven days to load the ark based on Genesis 7:4 and Genesis 7:10, but I could be wrong. I've never thought much about it. But it makes sense, since the number seven, in the Bible, always refers to completion and fulfillment.

"For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth."
    Genesis 7:4

"And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth."
    Genesis 7:10.

    Blessings,

Interesting Sue. I'm going to look at it with that in mind. I just wonder what kept the people from having second thoughts when all those animals started to line up.

You mean the people that were left behind? They already thought Noah was crazy since he was building an ark and they had never seen rain.

I doubt they gave it much thought. [IMG]

Not really all that many animals, either. Assume only ONE set of dogs (hundreds of breeds from one pair), ONE set of equines (hundreds of variant horses, zebras, etc) well, you get the pix.

We think of a gajillion "breeds" and how crowded it would be. Not that big a deal. And since Noah had 120 years to build his floating zoo, who is to say the time limits on gathering the critters?

What I want to knowis, did the animals bring gifts? You know, like maybe the monkeys decided to help out by bringing bananas, maybe the pigs brought truffles, or the bears brought fish. [IMG]

JonathanDT, Nah... Noah's wife had 120 years to can foods. I'm sure they were well prepared. Noah was busy building the ark....

Sue says that God could have been sending the animals to the ark long before its completion---sorta like the animals arrive and are corraled and are on "stand by"---

That still happens in the animal world today---the dairy farmer only has to whistle--and the Holsteins come "a-runnin'" to be milked!! Long before the "3pm milkin'" you can know its fixin' to be 3pm---the Holsteins have made a "Bee Line" to the parlor!

Noah did the building---God did the whistlin'!!

So there mysteriously appeared two of each animal, some from areas that had never been there before, and hung around until it was done? Or did Noah build the ark out in some field, that became a background of familiarity, with the doors open to the uncivilized side instead of toward the city. The animals then came from the wilds, never being noticed. Strange.

Is the drowning death of thousands & thousands of people including innocent children and babies a laughing matter?

Don't think in 21st century map terms. ALL of the world was in one land mass. ALL of the animals were known to the people in the region of Noah. Noah was NOT in the middle of the desert by Babylon with no fodder, grass, etc.

The continents forming and breaking apart and present arrangement is very modern. Result of the flood and ice epoch and continental separation that are all post-Noahic.

Limited breeds, limited range, limited numbers - a miracle, but no big thing like it would be today.

Not to start an arguement, but the fossil records don't support this at all. And since it's not discussed biblically, at best, your idea, while doing a good job of filling in the gaps, is at best, an extrabiblical hypothesis. A good one, but hypothesis nonetheless.

I don't wish to start up yet another YEC/OEC debate. The only reason I mention this is because I don't want anyone to get the idea that this is what the Bible says happenned.

I'm aware of Pangaea and continental drift, I wasn't disputing this. There's no evidence that flooding and ice ages contributed to continental drift. Rather conteinental drift is the result of plate techtonics.
