Boy, its gotten awfully quiet on this debate Stateside. Once the patriotic rhetoric dies away it seems there is little U.S input to offer. Now that is scarey!
Well, you are misinformed. There IS a time difference. Some of us do have to work. Plus I had to get my hair trimmed & run errands.
Occasionally, I "hit" a few posts on the BB during working hours. (Now before some Pharisee wags the finger & accuses me of cheating my employer, I will rebutt that I'm on salary and work a lot of weekend hours that is not overtime. So there!)
Would you mind if somebody from "the rest of the world" perpetrated another 9/11 - style atrocity because of what they thought about the US? Is that really what it takes to make you sit up and take notice?
Incidentally, remember the UK also fought in Iraq, but doesn't seem to arouse the same hostile sentiment. So no more flag waving, OK? Lets not get caught up in emotive patriotism, but genuinely seek to discover why a country which in truth has dramatically impacted the world in so many positive ways, should now be the subject of its ire.
This is about political and cultural ideologies. What is it politically or culturally that many in the world take exception to? This is a serious question, and is at the root of the world terror problem.
You know, it wouldn't hurt American citizens to think about this.
I expect another terrorist attack in the US.
But the point being missed here, and I think the larger issue, is this terrorism deal is far from over and the UK and European countries are not off scott free! Your time will undoubtedly come, not because of your foreign policy, the good or evil of you, or anything other than there is a religion out there that seeks to dominate the world.
The sooner you wake up to the reality of it, the better off you will be. It's coming your way. All you need to do is study the History of Islam, the quotes by major mullahs and imams, even the so-called moderate ones, look around you at all the Islamic countries and how the majority of their countries became Islamic, and you will see the Modus Operandi. (Attorney Matt, check my spelling, please on that one.) Whole countries and civilizations and peoples in Africa are being exterminated daily by Muslims. The countries are falling like dominoes, one by one. It is in one sense the East versus the West, in another sense, it is good versus evil, in another sense, it is Satan against Christians as one sees all the Christians globally who are being slaughtered and tortured because they love Jesus.
It has been widely acclaimed by some mullahs that their goals are to take over Downing Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.
This is not Islamophobic, this is history. This is what one sees when one examines and peels away the pretense of this so-called religion of peace, looking down into its heart, the roots of where & why it originated, the objectives, the history of it, the whole kaboodle. I had no idea about this until after 09/11 when I began a personal quest to find the truth and was grieved and shocked at what I found.

So it is easy to sit back in your own comfort zone looking at us across the pond here and have a little bit of a self righteous attitude - forgive me for saying that - because a 09/11 has not happened to you in recent history.
You think we Americans don't think about what happened to us? You think we have our heads buried in the sand? Well some do. Some have jumped on the old bandwagon to "Blame America first."
And some of our supposed European & UK friends have seemingly jumped on the bandwagon. I have noticed, for example, in thread after thread started on this board, there are put downs on America, endeavors to make America look bad, not only by some across the big pond, but by some who say they live here. It is pretty safe to say that about 10-12% of Americans really do hate America. I am not one of them.
You want a serious discussion on this thread or is what I say going to be ripped to shreds in an attempt to "PROVE" me wrong? Forgive me for being skeptical but this did seem to me to be another one of those put-down America threads, even though you are posting on an American (even though accessed internationally) board.
If you want a serious discussion, if you really want to know how some of us feel, then I'll give you the benefit of the doubt to let me speak my peace and trust you will respect my views & not try to rip me to pieces. Unfortunately, that is usually not the way of message boards.
But if you really want to know, I'll say this. I find it really a sad thing that while America had a President who was more concerned about sexual exploits than foreign policy or acting on terrorism when he had opportunity after opportunity, even turning down OBL when offered to him--when we had a President for 8 years who allowed our military technology to be sold to the Chinese, while he did so many things too numerous to mention here, that the world seemed to have more respect for the US President whose genitals were the subject of Internet fodder, than for G.W. Bush. To me, there is something dreadfully wrong with that picture. Is the world, by and large, so degenerate that the US President's sexual exploits endear him to the rest of the world? I find it sad.
Do I agree with our foreign policy? Most of the time, no. Do I agree with the trash coming out of Hollywood? No. Do I agree with the fact that we slaughter millions of babies every year through legal abortion mills? No. Do I agree with our liberal courts who adjudicate from the benches? No. Do I agree with the elected politicians who make laws and undermine the US Constitution? No. Do I agree with MTV and the indoctrination of our young people with a hedonistic lifestyle? No.
Are the hands of Europe clean and spotless or is Europe just as sinful, just as depraved as society in the US? Probably about the same and maybe even more so in some areas. So the overall answer is a heart condition.
But the world's perception of America is what they see from Hollywood and the attitudes in New York and the West Coast and in Washington, DC. THAT, my friends across the pond, IS NOT THE REAL AMERICA! One only has to look at the 2000 US election map & one can see where the REAL AMERICA lies & that is in the heart land. If that isn't enough, listen to our Country Music. Yes, some is about cheating & drinking, but the bulk of it is about real live people, waitresses, truck drivers, people trying to make a living. Look at our brave men & women in the Military. This is the cream of American crop. Not the protesters lying in the streets selfishly trying to prove some point. But the young men & women who serve in our Military, selflessly give all they have to give & some even give the ultimate sacrifice. Not only do they do what they are called upon to do, but like your own military, they give humanitarian aid, medical assistance, rebuild infrastructure & schools and so much more. Yet the negative liberal press only looks at the bombs.
Forgive me for this long post. But you asked for it. I am going to paste something I wrote a few weeks after 09/11. This just about sums it up. It is a mixture of my passion, grief, shock, and anger. But it just about says it all. I pray you will never suffer a 09/11, but if you ever do, then maybe you will understand.
An Open Letter to the Terrorists and Those Who Support Them:
I am an American. When you had your thugs commandeer and ram U.S. planes into and bomb the World Trade Center in New York City, you didn't count on killing thousands of innocent people from nearly 80 countries in there, did you? You thought you were just killing Americans. The innocent people you killed were just minding their own business, just trying to make a living, pay their bills, do their errands, love their kids, and live their dreams.
I did not personally know any of the people you killed at the World Trade Center, or the Pentagon, or with Anthrax. I did not personally know any of the Brave Firefighters, Rescue Workers, or Emergency Personnel. I did not personally know any of the passengers on the four planes your slimeballs commandeered. But I have grieved at the horror and the tragedy, and I have taken it personally.
To paraphrase my President, "An attack against One American is an attack against ALL Americans!" How dare you? This is MY country. Where do you get off? You swine!
The United States has generously fed, clothed, educated, medicated, rescued, or assisted humanity in nearly all countries on this planet at one time or another throughout our history. We have been benevolent. We have had compassion on those less fortunate than we. We have welcomed anybody of any race, creed, or religion under our Eagle wings to celebrate with us in freedom and be a part of us. We have been the Leader in nearly every field of expertise, innovation, or technology mankind could ever imagine and we have shared our knowledge, our resources, our blessings and goodness with the rest of the world and continue to do so. We have been able to do these things because of a concept you hate--Capitalism! Yet you hate us. You burn our flag. You return evil for our good. This is how you repay us. This is what your religion teaches? You call us *infidel?*
The irony and joke of all this madness is that you want to be like us. You drink our soft drinks, eat our fries, wear our clothes (even down to copying our camouflage military duds, as I have noticed on the news), you enjoy the benefits of our technology including television and computers, you drive our automobiles and trucks, ride our bicycles, play our stock markets, use our banking systems and credit cards, enjoy the benefits of our medical interventions and scientific enterprise.
Anything and everything wonderful that has been thought of, developed, or improved upon has come from America, Israel, and Great Britain (founded upon Judeo-Christian principles, by the way) or the West. Capitalism! The people you have declared a *jihad* on.
You have spoken only one Truth--This IS a Holy War! But *Allah* is not with you! And Peace will never be with you.
What is remarkable about the America you hate is that we share our blessings and hand out foreign aid, feed the hungry, give medical treatment and supplies (I don't notice many Muslims feeding Muslims--most of your charities are fronts for supporting terrorism).
This is pretty remarkable since America has only been around for a couple hundred years, but all of your *civilizations* and countries have been around thousands of years--why haven't you surpassed us in every field?
Why is it that people come from all over this planet to drink from the cup of Knowledge and goodness that comes with Freedom from within America, sometimes putting their lives at great peril, hoping to make it to these Grand Shores and Wonderful Land of Promise and Opportunity?
Oh the people flood America, this Great Satan, to the tune of over 30 MILLION visas per month! And we welcome you with open arms.
For what purpose? To do us in? You come here to my country, infiltrate our colleges and universities with your anti-Americanism, buy up our real estate, invest in our stocks, live the good life Capitalism has to offer and send money and allegiance back *home* for your *jihad.* We have let you.
We have Free World Trade--something done (not to make America richer), but to empower and lift up the other nations of the world. We buy far more from our enemies than we export to the rest of the planet. If there is a *fault* with our foreign policies, it is that. It is because our politicians don't do their jobs in the best interests of American people and have failed miserably in their responsibilies to the people that elected them.
The bottom line is the Muslim world hates the U.S. because of only one foreign policy and that is our stand beside Israel. So you have declared a *jihad* or holy war on Christians, America, Great Britain, and Israel, because we are supportive of Israel?
Big deal. Where do you get off telling us what to do? You are only envious of how Israel has made her tiny piece of desert blossom as a rose. You have the whole rest of the desert to do with whatever you choose. Not only that, you have billions of dollars you've gotten from Americans, from our foreign aid or sale of your oil. Which, by the way, we built those oil fields. We built the air bases over there, and when the oil fields were set on fire by Saddam, your buddy, it was Americans who risked their lives for months to put those fires out!
If you would have invested your energy and billions in something creative instead of murder and hate, you could have made something of yourselves and your people and uplifted them instead of filling them with your lies and hatred. But your evil destroys creativity and goodness.
And, by the way, just where is it written that America is supposed to be the nipple for the whole planet to suckle? Americans are under no obligation to grace the rest of the world with our benevolence. But we have, and the rest of the world should be grateful.
I have visited many of the Muslim message boards and web sites and they are all filled with your sick hate for America, all harping the same sorry tune that America is a big terrorist. If America was really the big super terrorist we are accused of being, we would have just nuked all of the regions over there and kept the oil for ourselves. And we could have probably even done it by satellite and not even endangered one soldier.
So, your arguments don't make any sense to any thinking or rational person. But evil never makes sense.

I thank God I am an American, because no matter what, America is still the greatest Nation on the face of this Earth. And I would rather be an average American, not unlike those you killed, living my life, sniffing and scratching to get by, holding onto my dreams, enjoying my freedoms, than to be running from Justice & the US MIlitary and then facing an eternal hell.
You may escape though. You may not meet justice in this life, but one day you will. You will find out you have believed an eternal lie--there are no 72 black-eyed virgins awaiting you in Paradise. But then it will be too late.
