What is the single most important doctrine that you believe in?

I voted salvation. Without that, the rest of it will not be understood.

This poll was kind of like asking which part of my car is most important: Wheels, Motor, Brakes, Fuel, or Steering Wheel. All are essential and without ANY of the five you don't have much of a car.

I don't want to cop out though, so, I will have to say eternal security in my salvation

 

Well, I think they are all important. I voted "God" because without God none of the others would exist.

I like Artimaeus' comment;

I was thinking alng those same lines, this poll was kind of like asking which bodily organ is most important: heart, brain, lungs digestive. All are essential and without ANY of the five you don't have much of a life.

I say God (in general) Without knowing Him there isn't much of a reason for studing doctrine anyway.

 

The Trinity.

All sound doctrine is certainly important. But what comes to my mind is that all of the false religions and cults do not necessarily deny that there is a God, or deny that the Bible is the word of God, etc., but what they will adamantly attack is Who the Lord Jesus Christ really and truly is: God manifested in flesh and our only means of salvation.

Me too, Scripture is the Word of God, Jesus Christ is God revealedin flesh, Salvation is God's gift, the Church is God's family.

Risking sounding just like my favorite Puritan authors, God's passion for His own glory is the only thing keeping our atoms from spinning out of control and it is the very foundation from which He delivered His Scripture, brought a redemption plan by which humans may be saved, etc...

 

Salvation. One cannot have it without the Son,
one cannot know the Son without knowing the
Father, and salvation will drive one toward the
Word.

 

I didn't mark one...I would have to say Christ and scripture..Jesus was the Word.He is the Word,He was God and spoke the Word of God while on Earth,which says how a man can be saved and know God. There is no other way to the Father excpet through Him. God's word is everything we need pertaining to godliness.

 

I voted salvation. But after some consideration, I think I should have voted Scripture. To answer which in systematic theology would all others fall under, it would have to be scripture, because all others are contained within it.

 

I believe there are two truths that are foundational (even presuppositional), and on which all other important fundamental truth rests - God and Scripture. If there is no God it is all nonsense, and even if there is a God, we cannot know anything of Him unless He reveals Himself (which He has done in Scripture). Whatever we believe about Jesus, salvation, grace, the church, eternal security, good works, baptism, etc., hinges on the fact that we believe that the creator God has revealed this to us in His Scriptures. At least this would be true for fundamentalists; maybe not for liberals (but this isn't their forum!).

 

Scripture. Otherwise, how do we know about God, Jesus, church, etc?

 

As my Brothers and Sisters have so truly stated, all aspects are a part of the whole, wheels, motor, etc. For myself I voted Jesus Christ, for through the Word made flesh, is God revealed, our Creator, and the Author and Finisher of our salvation. Jesus is the focal point of all scripture.

John 1:
1: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2: The same was in the beginning with God.
3: All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4: In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5: And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
6: There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7: The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
8: He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9: That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10: He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11: He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12: But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

All are important but for myself the most important is Jesus:

We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, that He was conceived of the Holy
Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, and is fully God and fully
Man. We believe that our redemption has been accomplished solely by the
blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, who was made to be sin, and made a curse for
us, dying in our place that we might be forgiven. We believe that He died not
only for our sins, but also for the sins of the entire world. We believe that He
was raised from the dead in bodily form and that He ascended into heaven,
where He sits at the right hand of God the Father interceding for us.

We believe in the personal, bodily, imminent and pre-millennial return of our
Lord Jesus Christ for His Church and His subsequent millennial reign over
restored Israel and the kingdoms of the world. Luke 1:30-35; 2:7; John 1:1-4;
Romans 9-11; Philippians 2:5-11; Colossians 1:13-19; Hebrews 1:1-3; I Peter
3:18; I Corinthians 15:3-7; Hebrews 7:25; Acts 1:11, 15:14-17; I
Thessalonians 4:13-18; I John 2:2.
