If you had to choose a Bible version you have to use exclusively , which translation would that be?

I don't know about the underlying text. If forced to use only one translation I would use the NIV.

The modern texts also include the variants (such as the TR) so would opt for it "all in one package".

Of course, I filled out the poll wrong but hey, I'm a slow learner!

I would choose the 1611 King James Version.

You don't use the 1611 now (educated guess)!
    I would use ESV

The RSV...it also has the apocrypha. If I could find an ESV with the apocrypha (which will be published, I understand, in the UK)I would have it.

Like go2church said, you probably don't use this, nor would you. I would be impressed if you could read it and you would have to have a Bible with the Apocrypha, which I am guessing you don't use. You probably meant to say "the 1769 King James Version." ;)

This is such a tough question.

I would choose the RSV because
    I know it so well.

But I really love the ESV, NASB,
and NIV. I love the NIV for
    reading.

    Again, a tough question.

If I had to choose only one, I'd choose the Greek and Hebrew, with a good Greek and Hebrew dictionary.

If I were going to another planet where there would be no other Bibles I would take the NASB. Why, because it is the most literal best preserved(in my opinion) text.

However, having said that, we probably won't be going to another planet and there will always be more literal translations around for preservation purposes so If I had to choose only one translation for its translation to the common man's english I would have to choose the NIV.

A question for the survey questions
What about other OT texts that vary from the MT? i.e. Qumran's variations on Jeremiah that testify to a version of Jeremiah that is more like the LXX.

Does anyone know of a critical text of the OT that incorporates these new finds? I know that many of the more recent translations opt for readings that come from Qumran or the Samaritan Penteteuch, but I am unaware of a critical text like the NT has in the Nestle-Aland.

I'd pick the 1982 NEW King James Version (amen)! I believe that it is the Word of God preserved intact in English for today's man (and woman). [IMG]
Plus it has good footnotes pointing out the textual variants in the OT and the NT.

My question is about the translation you would use. I am sorry that my English is not good enough to explain what I meant. I was talking about the text you´d like to have good translation from.

By the way, wasting your time is something only you can do... by your decision to read my post and to answer my poll.
