Bush and the Purpose-Driven Life

According to Rick Warren on the 700 Club, President Bush and the majority of his staff are going through the Purpose-Driven Life together. I think that's wonderful, and I hope that the book will get him back on track. I think it is a good sign that any of our elected leaders are committed to learning more about their faith!

That's great. I hope it's not simply propoganda aimed at a certain segment of the voting public, like so many other things. If not, maybe they'll stop promoting homosexuality in government, lying us into bloody wars, and squandering the financial well-being of future generations through massive, out-of-control spending. But I'm not holding my breath.

Every election year, the Republicans start rattling the cage of 1/3 of their party base - evangelical christians.

Got the "under God" issue in the pledge. Can see that this might also be politically motivated.

I would pray not. Just enough of a realist, though . . .

Yep, and like lap dogs we jettison our principles, insult our Saviour, and line up at the polls for the same Republican hacks who continue abortion on demand, promote the homosexual agenda, lie us into wars, and squander the treasure of future generations.

Let's cut the excuses, folks. Republicans now hold the White House, Senate, and House. 3500 babies per day continue to be slaughtered and they do NOTHING. The PBA ban is a fraud designed to give them a cheap ticket to the pro-life vote with no political risk.

The spending level of Bush and the Republicans would embarass the Democrats, were it possible. Makes the Clintons look conservative.

On and on, practically every issue.

Who? Nearly all liberals are staunch supporters of abortion and the homosexual agenda. There are some libertarians that sway more toward our issues but even those guys sometimes hold views that are in conflict with ours such as drug legalization issues. I don't support voting for some fringe candidate who has no chance of winning just because the forerunners may not completely fit into our molds of what the perfect candidates should be. I believe that attitude is in part why Clinton got elected in the first place. I believe that on another thread a poster alluded to the fact that change is not a dramatic process but mostly a long series of steps toawd a distant goal. The anti-abortion movement is a classic example. After all these years we are finally seeing a shift in public attitudes toward the issue and, although the war still rages on, I do not believe anti abortionists are as much on the defensive. The real problem is that Christians seem to shed their civic responsibility after stepping out of the voting booth and then complain when policies aren't going our way. We need to be active in that period between the elections to show the politicians the influence we have. And going back to the original arguement. For example in California, it would probably be easier to influence a moderate politician such as Arnold Scwarznagger to subscribe to your views than it would be to get the same results with a leftist fanatic like Gray Davis.

The Constitution Party is as close as a limited government Christian is going to get to a party for whom he will rarely, if ever, have to apologize for voting for its candidates.

All I can think to add is, ALL politicians that are ALWAYS on the TV(even if they don't have a clue Sen Byrd), no matter how good they may seem they are hiding something, Any politician that actually tries to stand for something never gets anywhere because this country is too self centered and votes for the best commercial that the candidates put forth. Until all Christians actually, earnestly PRAY, this country's going to continue to go downhill. Think what you may(freedom of speech-in the usa anyway)With Bush in office, consider this a pause in our downhill slide until such a time as God removes him from office.

Carl, there are some good politicians worthy of the votes of Christians, even in the Republican Party.

Bush is not a pause in the downhill slide. He endorses and practices nearly every policy that promotes the slide.

So, Ken, does that mean the Constitution Party gets your vote and NOT the Libertarian Party?
