Not a Greek scholar, but I do know that the Geeek word for "in" here is epi as opposed to the typical en.

I understand that epi does not imply "inside" but "upon." En is used for "in" in both verses 9 and 10, to refer to God and His will being done in heaven. Surely there is a reason why en was not used to refer to God's will on earth. If it truly meant "in earthern vessels" would not en have been used?

Not defending The Message in any regard here folsk, but don't see your arguement as valid SFIC, perhaps a Greek scholar could sort me out if I am in error.

Thanks, everyone, for the greek clarification of Matthew 6:10, "Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven".

Which leads to the question, how could the verse be read as The Message reads it?

Does anyone have any thoughts about the significance of The Message's rendering, "Set the world right; Do what's best - As above, so below"? Or is there any significance?

I use the KJV for accuracy and The MESSAGE for understanding. I just think of it as a Bible commentary. When you do that, it can be an effective study tool.

I think it can only be an effective study tool insofar as Petersen's personal take on scripture is accurate. I don't think it always is.

I wouldn't trust 'understanding' received from the Message. He has too many theological and exegetical errors. If you want a commentary - then get a commentary - not someone's own interpretation of what they think the Scriptures saying. A (good) commentary explains exegetical and theological context, backgrounds, and the such to explain why a person understands a passage in a certain way. Peterson offers no such support for his 'translation.' Hence, the Message is NOT a commentary and should not be treated as such.
