At Fremont Community Church we sang

Grace Greater Than Our Sin (but with the Moody refrain not given in Cyber Hymnal)

Forever with the Lord (to Terra Beata )

Hail to the Lord's Anointed (to Sheffield)

    There Is a Redeemer

Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me (to Toplady)

He's Got the Whole World in His Hands

Just As I Am (to Woodworth)

Be Still and Know That I Am God

    Be Still, My Soul

John Saw the Heaven and Earth Made New (our hymnals, like the Cyber Hymnal, give this to the African-American Spiritual tune McKee, but we couldn't quite get it to work and ended up singing the text to Kingsfold, i.e. Star of the County Down)

Beyond the Sunset, O Blissful Morning

When I Can Read My Title Clear (to Pisgah)

When We All Get to Heaven

    and last but not least

    He Hideth My Soul

plus a "Special Music" duet, No Higher Calling by Lenny LeBlanc and Greg Gulley

We didn't have service last night, due to Mother's Day, but the week before was this:

    Fellowship Hymn: Above All

    Down At The Cross
    Nothing But the Blood
    At Calvary

Are You Washed in the Blood of the LAmb?
The Blood Will Never Lose It's Power

Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross

    --------

On Wednesday night (the youth service I lead), we sang:

    One Name Under Heaven

    When I Praise (FFH)

    Forever - Chris Tomlin

    Undignified - David Crowder Band

Sing to the King - Billy Foote (redone from 1910 hymn - see Blessings / CCM post)

All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name - (just like the hymn, but with a guitar)

    ------

    How's that?

At Fremont Community Church this evening (June 1):

    Amazing Grace

Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing

    How Great Thou Art

    Because He Lives (scroll down)

    Eternal Father, Strong to Save

    Beyond the Sunset

    Soon and Very soon

    I'll Fly Away

    Marching to Zion

    Sweet By and By

On Jordan's Stormy Banks I Stand

    I Am Praying for You

    I Must Tell Jesus

Tell Me the Old Old Story

I Love to Tell the Story

    Be Still and Know

We Give Our Thanks to You, O God (Psalm 75 in the Psalter Hymnal):
I enjoyed it, and also the food that it was the prelude to.

Harou, Looks like you have alot of Praise and Worship. We generally have two hymns and two chrouses. Yet being a small fellowshi we dont have many musicians so we use tapes.

I'm not trying to start anything, just asking questions.

    1) Haruo: those were alot of songs. A typical song usually runs 3 minutes or more which would put you at 45 minutes plus. My question is, how long was the preaching of the word of God?

    2) ScottEmerson:: Not having church service on mother's day, is that a church tradition? BTW, great songs.

    3) Ben W: I don't think you need a good musical voice or a talent to sing unto the Lord, trust me I know, so my opinion would be to keep the tapes in the car.

Sunday June 1 PM we did
To God be the Glory (full hymn)

    And the choruses:
You are my All in All
    Step by Step
    As the Deer

We had a hail storm hit mid service. Even with a full PA my preaching was about drowned out!

We won't talk about what my tomato plants looked like when we got home. [IMG]

Yes, those were a lot of songs, but that's the way we do it Sunday evenings. It's not a "church service" per se and there is usually no formal preaching of the Word. We sing for as long as the accompanist's fingers hold out (mostly requests; sometimes the accompanist chooses the songs), then we share prayer concerns and pray about them, then we read (and/or sing) and discuss a psalm (75 this week), and finally we eat potluck (spaghetti w/ meat sauce, garlic bread, lime jello w/ carrots and pineapple, this week). It's a small group, usually around 15 people; this week our two largest families of regulars were out of town, so there were only seven of us. (The husband of the largest family is also our regular guitarist, so this week we had to "make do" with piano. Most of us actually prefer the piano, truth to tell.)

By way of contrast, at the morning service I attended, at Japanese Baptist, the Opening Hymn was two stanzas of Crown Him with Many Crowns; the "Praise Songs" (which means we sing them from PowerPoint on a screen instead of out of hymnals) were How Great Thou Art and Great Is Thy Faithfulness; the Offertory was a piano and flute duet; the Doxology was Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow (to Old 100th); the special music was a hymn solo ("Kami wa Ai nari") in Japanese; the Communion Hymn was the first two stanzas of Let Us Break Bread Together; and the Closing Hymn was the third stanza of this last. (All the congregational song was bilingual, and the sermon was simultaneously translated with headsets for the Japonophones.)

The Sermon title was "Jesus Prays for Us", with John 17:13-19 as the text (but with excursions into Romans and Hebrews).

    Homebound,

Gidday Mate, the tapes we use are instrumental ones as a backround. We are a small group, yet when we sing some of those really old Hymns you can really feel something amazing in the room. I love the words and the stories of those who wrote them.

Praise and Worship Choruses are also good, yet in a different way.

    I'll jump in:

This past Sunday at Northside Baptist Church in Huntsville, TX we used the following songs in worship morning and evening:

    AM
Open the Eyes of My Heart (Baloche)
    We Will Stand (Taff)
    The Solid Rock
    Higher Ground
    We Fall Down (Tomlin)
    The Glory-Land Way
    The Unclouded Day
His Eye is on the Sparrow
    Knowing You (Kendrick)
Take My Life and Let it Be Consecrated

    PM
Take Us to the River (Mark)
Blessed Be the Name of the Lord (Moen)
    Glorious is Thy Name
    Salvation Belongs to Our God
    Agnus Dei (Smith)
    I Stand in Awe (Altrogge)
    Just As I Am

Was a great worship service, and heard a great exegetical sermon from 2 Thessalonians on how "Kingdom People Care." Good stuff. Just my humble opinion. [IMG]

    Sunday past at Fremont:

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing
    How great Thou art
Be exalted, O God (Brent Chambers)
    Holy, Holy (Jimmy Owens)
    Come, Thou almighty King
    Hallelujah, what a Savior!
Tell me the story of Jesus (Fanny Crosby)
    What wondrous love is this
    O sacred Head, now wounded
    Were you there?
    The old rugged cross
At the cross (Alas! and did my Savior bleed, Hudson)*
Are you washed in the blood
There is power in the blood
    Amazing grace
